Scott Green leads NFL referees in instant-replay reversal rate after mistakenly (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3707245) overturning a Steelers touchdown in Week 11.

Last season, Gerald Austin led the NFL in most reversals and highest reversal rate. He also assessed fewer penalties per game than any of the other 16 referees assessed.

The league replaced (http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks/0-6-10/NFL-promotes-Cheffers--Riveron-to-referee.html) Austin and fellow referee Larry Nemmers after the season. Austin later said he was forced out (http://www.triadcars.com/node/7919).

Peter Morelli, with eight games worked, is averaging slightly more reversals per game than Green, who has worked one additional game.

Some replay officials issue challenges far more frequently (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=sando_mike&id=3005331)than others. And because the same replay officials work with the same referees each week, some referees face significantly more challenges than others.

Referees Jerome Boger, Mike Carey, Bill Carollo and Carl Cheffers have faced zero challenges from replay officials during the final 2 minutes of halves this season. Tony Corrente, Ed Hochuli, Gene Steratore and Ron Winter have each faced eight such challenges.

Green falls near the middle. He has faced three booth-initiated challenges this season. Green has reversed all three calls, including the one he regretted overturning Sunday.

Hopefully more goes into the evaluation than reversals.

Challenges aren't usually made on calls by the referee. Unless referee is responsible for choosing and training his entire crew, it's wrong to credit or blame the referee for his crew's mistakes.

These stats are meaningless without a breakdown of what each linesman, umpire, etc. of each crew is responsible for which overturns.
