Anyone had an issue with this Virus?
My kid's laptop has it on there and nothing I have tried removes it.

Download this program and run itCan you show me where it gets rid of this? I don't want to download anything at this point. I have Webroot Spy Sweeper on the laptop and that isn't even killing this thing.

I have used it many times. It's safe.

Surfing around trying to learn more about the virus and ran into this that may be helpful. http://www.malwarehelp.org/spyware-guard-2008-analysis-and-removal-2008.html

After reading the comments section on that site, it sounds like a real bear to get rid of. Here's the last comment that was successful:
Got this horrendous virus yesterday, but have just got rid of it.
Downloaded MalwareBytes on to another PC and put it on to a USB stick. My infected PC would only boot in safe mode - under which MalwareBytes wouldn’t run :-(.
I then restarted the XP machine using ‘Last known good settings’. The virus popped up right away and started to run, but at least now I could install MalwareBytes.
I ran it (quick scan first), and it did find ‘SpyGaurd’ - though SpyGuard itself kept coming on during the scan (I always quickly closed it).
MalwareBytes removed most of it on the first pass, but some elements had to be removed after a reboot - which it seemed to do.
Fingers crossed everything is now clear!

If it's that messed up your best bet is to wipe it and reload. If you do manage to kill the virus there is no guarantee it won't come back.

Depending on how much it finds it can take a long time

5+ hours and it says it found 109 threats. But I find no evidence they are quarantined, deleted, or that the laptop is safe. In fact the little spyware Guard 2008 notice is still popping up its little sales pitch.
Is there some kind of trick to this software? I'd hate to think I wasted 5 hours.

Sigh...it finally worked.
Thanks guys.

You have to tell it you want to remove the items it found. There should be a remove items button at the bottom right of the box.

So I ran a quick scan and this time the bad files were shown and I removed them.
Reboot. No more Spyware Guard 2008.

I think that virus got started on facebook and spread. It went around like crazy here at Angelo State to the point ASU's IT department would no longer work on it, because they were basically making things worse.

I think I know what happened with the first scan. After the scan runs you have to click on the see results button then you can remove what it found.

It went back to the scan page. I did a quick scan hoping it would bring up the results and it did. I promise I did not screw anything up. It simply did not work the fist time.

for anybody who ever has a problem with viruses/spyware any of that stuff google "superantispyware" and download the program. I haven't had a problem with my computer since. I scan everyday and it finds everything. I used to have that webroot spysweeper just like hos and it didn't find anything. I downloaded superantispyware and it found a bunch of spyware/viruses. I removed them rebooted my computer and everything has been great since. I've told friends and family about this program and everyone of them said it's the best antvirus, anitspyware program they've ever seen. even Mash the poster on this site who is a computer tech says it was one of the best things he's ever seen. it's also free.
