Some names you just don't hear anymore:
1)Elmer. First and only time I heard this name was in grade school 38 years ago. Felt sorry for the kid. Never met anyone since with that name. Even the glue needs a new name.
2)Homer. Richard Gere named his kid Homer, after Home run and baseball. Homer Simpson didnt help this name.
3)Jethro
4)Bertha. Never met a girl with this name. Implies big, very big.
5)Adolf. For obvious reasons.
6)Gomer. This name is actually in the bible.
7)Ester. I had an Aunt Ester back when polyester was in style.

Any others? Any you wish were extinct?

Believe it or not, I went to High School with an Adolf, so I'm betting he's still around somewhere. He was younger than me no less. ;)

It's funny how some of these names have come to have some sort of connotation to them that is negative. At this point, who is going to name anything other than their dog 'Homer', these days?

Jethro, depending on your geographical location carries a negative image of some jug eared farmer in bib-overalls.

I do also know, as Rowdy put up, a Percy (Percival).

I also knew a guy named Lester Manley. He would always introduce himself as "Hi, I'm Les Manley." That is, until one day when he was introducing himself and the other person asked "Less manly than what?" After that, it was back to Lester Manley. I'll never forget that day. I was almost rolling on the floor. Nice guy, just got a lousy name.

I gotta think the name "Monica" took a serious hit around the late 90s.

One of my business partners just named her baby girl "Esther" -- I gotta think that's a pretty rare name these days.

Most of those old names were fine in their time. I just feel sorry for all the kids of the hippies who had all those really stupid names; like all too many hollywood types and their ego's which make them give their kids horrible names. I always considered giving your kid a name that will result in lots of jokes and torment in school and elsewhere a form of child abuse.

My grandfather (God rest his soul) had the name Felix. As much as I would love to name my firstborn after him, I don't know if I could get away with it.

The first one that comes to mind is Harry.

The youngest Harry I've heard of is Harry Connick Jr.

Reminds me of when I got home from being in the army.

We were watching tv and a commercial for Sheba canned cat food came on and I started rolling.

People looked at me and asked what I was laughing about. I said, well in Korean Sheba means poop (the clean version of the word), so they are selling poop in a can and giving it to cats.:laugh2:
