Was this story/movie loosely based on Jake "the snake" Roberts?

I ask this because i seen some kind of documentary last year or the year before with him in it and in one of the ads I seen for the movie the wrestler was talking to his daughter or someone like he was trying to mend fences with her. There was a moment in the documentary I seen where Jake was doing just that after not seeing his daughter for years.

Like I said, I have only seen a couple of ads for the movie and don't know much about so that is why I am asking.

I don't think so. Any similarities are probably coincidental. I think you could say it's loosely based on any professional wrestler and the impact the lifestyle has on their personal and family lives.

It's basically about a guy who is willing to pay any price to do the only thing he loves to do.

Excellent movie. I think it could based on the lives of any number of wrestlers (Jake The Snake, Road Animal Hawk, etc...) Mickey Rourke is very good. I'm very surprised it hasn't been nominated for Best Picture.
