...people stop worrying about the economy. I am guilty as anyone here, so I know what I'm talking about.
So let's forget about the stimulus bill. It's gonna happen, so forget about it already and move on!! Let's get back to our careless spending ways. Let's go back to building houses without buyers, banks offering mortgage loans and credit cards with little to no credit checks. Let's create fun jobs out of thin air and export all of the grunt work. I miss that technical support guy from India!
And since Obama has opened up the checkbook, maybe we should too. So get out there and run up some debt! Don't be afraid!! Surely, if you can buy into the government-created myth that it's patriotic to send young people halfway around the world to fight wars on behalf of old people, then you should be able to crack open that tight wallet of yours and spend 'er up!!

The economy will come around with or without the stimulus. The stimulus may or may not jump start it quicker but at what cost? Trying to tie this stimulus into the defense of this nation and her allies is pretty far fetched

Actually, if you think about it, there is an important connection here. There is, for example, an underlying theme of patriotism, unifying the country around some great cause, and our government is going to lead the way. Just think of it as the War on Recession and the country of Thrift is the enemy!
To not spend and to be afraid of the financial future of this country is COMMUNISM!!

Why would I want to spend myself into debt ? I mean that was what got us to here in the first place ! I have enough debt; which I am still in the process of getting rid of and not trying to acquire more. Then lets not even talk with what with upcoming taxes increase the next couple years to pay off the 4 trillion dollars in debt this country is about to rack up and has no way to pay off.
So I am going to do the smart thing pay off my debt horde my cash because I am expecting inflation to skyrocket and interest rates to skyrocket.
Sorry I am going to do the smart thing not what the government wants me to do.

Imagine going to a restaurant and having a fine meal. Just when you are ready to pay the check and leave a hefty tip, some 17 year old comes up to you and starts yammering about how hard they work and that you would never understand what it's like to be a cook or busboy. That's what it is like around here sometimes. As a paying customer, I always try to leave a good tip, but it's hard being generous when the host is giving you an attitude. Do you get what I'm saying?

VC, here's the thing with me and the military. I served. Others here served. Many friends and family served. Of those people some never came back. The point is that those that died, while they obviously would rather had not, they were willing to sacrifice for our freedom. Now whether you want to call it "soup" or koolaid or whatever, the bottom line is they protected your right to voice your views. They would not condemn you for your views, but they would for your lack of respect for their sacrifice for giving it to you.
We will agree to disagree, that's fine. But I will still never understand why you can' at least be appreciative to those that gave that right to you.

Cajun, this was a very good post and it points to things I haven't considered before. I will listen to your advice here, as you have at least shown me some decency and respect. Thanks again.

Actually, it's people like me (taxpayers) who make military services possible. The military doesn't exactly pay for itself. So I'm not exactly sure what 'due' you are referring to.
That just happens to be the way it is. You see, in a capitalist democracy, when services are provided, a paycheck is provided. There is nothing written in the law books about some moral retribution.Hey VCD... if you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in English, thank a serviceman.

I did receive my BA in economics from Boise State, and my MS in economics from MIT.

So I am going to do the smart thing pay off my debt horde my cash because I am expecting inflation to skyrocket and interest rates to skyrocket.Sorry I am going to do the smart thing not what the government wants me to do.
I agree with paying off your debts and getting solvent but I don't agree with hoarding cash going into an inflationary spiral because that is exactly what loses value. Your life savings and hoarded cash diminish greatly in value and won't buy nearly as much. What increases in value is goods because they increase in price. I think it makes more sense to invest in durable goods that you will need before the inflation sets in and at reasonable prices so you will have them and not have to pay the inflated rates. Since you will be making inflated wages in an inflationary environment, you can hang on to more of it longer and ward off the effects of inflation a little bit longer. It gives you some staying power.
Just a thought.

What goods food would be the one thing; can really store super large quantities of gas; I mean you can store quite a bit if you own a large piece of land.
Those are going to be the main items; food and power.

Secondly you should be happy with how we moderate because we could just as easily be tired of you trolling and since we have discretion to ban trolls...kind of get the picture here?

Surely, if you can buy into the government-created myth that it's patriotic to send young people halfway around the world to fight wars on behalf of old people, then you should be able to crack open that tight wallet of yours and spend 'er up!!
