View Full Version : Julius Peppers/Shaun Rogers + Dallas Cowboys = SB?

Now, with the talks about Julius Peppers possibly being traded and Shaun Rogers wants to be traded and willing to take less to leave Cleveland, I believe this is a situation that could benefit Cowboys only if the Front Office know how to work the budget.

- Shaun Rogers, who played Nose Tackle in the Browns 3-4 needs to be around talent to really flourish. Just replace Ratliff with Shaun Rogers and put Ratliff on the other side from Marcus Spears along with Igor Olansky/Stephen Bowen as back-ups.

- Julius Peppers, who played Defensive End in a 4-3, has the athletic ability to convert to a 3-4 outside linebacker. Has more picks, if im not mistaken, than any defensive end in the NFL. With Julius Peppers replacing Greg Ellis, the Cowboys would have more of a pass-rush, especially with Shaun Rogers pushing the middle up.

Overall, with Wade Phillips defensive mind and a defense that is this good, assuming the offense is atleast adaquete without Terrell Owens, the team overall stay consistent and healthy, and the Special Teams excell with Felix I believe the Cowboys could be in contention for a superbowl.

After the transformation the starting defense would look like this:

Safties
Ken Hamlin
Gerald Sensabaugh

Conerbacks
Terrance Newman
Mike Jenkins

Linebackers
Demarcus Ware
Keith Brooking
Bradie James
Julius Peppers

Defensiveline
Jay Ratliff
Shaun Rogers
Marcus Spears

The questions you have to ask yourself is what is it going to take for all of this to happen? (Fans Go Ahead And Speculate Some IDEAS)

Lots of $ which we don't have.

Plus our offense is still suspect seeing as how we flatlined last year at crucial times.

How the hell are we going to pay D. Ware if we get those two guys? It's wishful thinking but it's not happening. D. Ware gets paid first, end of story.

I would pick up the phone if Cleveland called, at least know how much it would cost for Rogers. I just dont think Peppers is a fit here. He see's guys like Ware getting 20 sacks and wants to have the same. I think he would make a better 3-4 end in Wade's system like Bruce Smith instead of OLB.

This is impossible. But it is interesting.

Yes, interesting is one word for it. If it happened, the Commish would be at the Ranch, with 10 accountants, trying to figure our how bad we cheated the cap.

Getting Rodgers would be more of an impact than getting Peppers. Our interior run defense would no longer be the weakness of this team.

Lets not forget the fact that the last couple years Shaun Rodgers has been a fat out of shape NT. Well Talented he has mailed it in and no longer puts forth an effort he is now a fat tub of goo that is over hyped by his past play it is the name dropping syndrome

Was a new CBA agreed to that abolished the cap for 2009???

Because the only way this is happenning is with no cap.

Q_the_man

Why do yall act like we can't afford nobody, we can afford anyone we want. for instance if we traded for Peppers and gave him an extension, for example if we gave him a 20 SB over 5 years basically that's a 4 mil $ hit a year plus base salary, so were looking at a 5-7 mil cap hit.... OK we cut or trade Ellis which saves us 5 mil, basically a wash, even.

Rogers a probably demand around a 10-12 SB, probably on a 4 year contract which would be at most a 3 mil $ cap hit, then add on his base salary, he would cost us around 4-5 mil on a cap hit....

Now take in account we bring in those 2 costing us a whopping 11 mil cap hit for this year....cutting or trading Ellis means u take 5 mil off that total. I'm pretty sure we can fine some money cutting other players, IE Barbie, maybe a couple of restructures and don't worry about draft picks because if we did trade for those 2, we probably use our 2nd and 3rd, which I would have no problem trading if I could land those 2....

Now I'm not saying we should do this, but I'm saying it is possible and we still would have money to resign Ware, Yall forget theirs all kinds of loopholes and number crunchers to make it work...

Honestly Peppers is a pipe dream, but I would love to have Rogers and give Spencer a real shot....

I just don't understand why folks think we can sign Peppers. Even if we had a 1st to trade him. The PANTHERS are going to hold onto him unless they get at least 1 1st and other picks as well.

you lost crediablity in my mind when you started Jenkins over Scandrick

I dont know why people have a problem with this, the team considered moving Scandrick to FS, that should tell you a little about what they think of Jenkins as a starting CB

Then again, this is CZ
