It seemed the consensus was he will be better suited to play guard, but I watching the NFL channel the other day and Mike Mayock mentioned that it would be a mistake to move him to OG, that he will be better at tackle. He also mentioned that from talking with U of Miami's OL coach, that the coach felt he would be better off playing RT in the NFL as well.

I think he played tackle his junior year then switched over to guard as a senior...they said he had a tougher time with playing guard then tackle...so i say tackle.

Carey scares me. If he was such a great tackle why didn't he stay a tackle at Miami? Seemingly tackle is the more difficult of the positions.

I ask you because I don't know... who was the last guard/tackle "hybrid" ( ;) that's for you Nors!) to perform at a very-high level, as a tackle in the NFL. I mean if someone is going to draft this guy in the first round you should expect someone that could perform (eventually) at a near pro-bowl level. I doubt Carey can.

Great point....and not only because I was thinking the same thing... :)

I believe he moved inside to guard because of injuries and the team needed him there. Some think his size makes him more of a guard than a tackle. Just curious to hear some other opinions.

an evaluation of him from Draftcrazy.com:
60 Vernon Carey Guard Miami, FL
Year: Sr Height: 6-4 Weight: 335 40: 5.33 Hometown: Miami, FL
Positives: Vernon displays great physical strength and great body on the line. Is an excellent run blocker. He is powerful and can explode his man into the next world. Plays tough and through injuries. A monster up front. A runners dream to run behind. Could also play tackle. Finishes his blocks and is well polished for the next level.

Negatives: Could use better stamina. Could use some work on his speed and footwork.

Bottom Line: Vernon should be a first round pick. He is about as polished and ready as an offensive guard can be. Some teams may look at him for an offensive tackle prospect. Should have a bright NFL career.

Could use some work on his speed and footwork? At tackle? S-C-A-R-Y!

And if I'm a NFL team I'm not drafting a guard in the first round.

He is a guard, which is why he is a 2nd rounder....
