The UN Security Council has unanimously condemned the launch by North Korea of a long-range rocket.

In a compromise statement, the 15-member council said it would tighten sanctions against Pyongyang in the wake of the 5 April launch.

The council did not pass a binding resolution, but said the declaration would remind North Korea of its duties.

Pyongyang says its rocket carried a satellite, but several nations viewed it as cover for a missile test.

I'm sure N. Korea is really worried now. :lmao:

It only took them how long to denounce the rocket test?

*shaking head*

This is the problem with the UN, nothing will be done. We will all shake our fingers at N. Korea in protest but it means nothing to N. Korea it is a joke and really shows weakness of power on the part of the UN. Nothing is ever binding, treats are made but never willing to back up what they say.

Tell about it. How many warnings did Iraq get? maybe 17 or so? The UN is spineless.

the UN has no enforcement powers other than agreed upon sanctions. That was how it was designed.

This just shows how much power you have once you have a nuke. NKorea can easilly take out Tokyo or Seoul, and there's not much we could do about it presently. Is there any wonder that other countries want nukes. It gets you a whole 'nother level of kid gloves treatment.

This is even more of a reason to have a missile shield defense system

The UN doesn't have an enforcing body, because to enforce it, states would have to give up sovereignty.

So ask yourself this.

Do you want this stuff enforced?

Or do you want state sovereignty? Because you are not going to get both. The UN is ridiculous at times, without question. But people complaining about the UN's inability to hold states accountable are equally ridiculous.

What burns me is all those limp noodles that are always crying to take anything to the UN when we all know its worthless. The same idiots that want the UN to run everything.
