I just read that Jack Kemp, former NFL quarterback, former vice presidential candidate and self-described "bleeding heart conservative" has passed away after a battle with cancer... he was 73...
Regardless of my political stance, this news saddens me greatly... he was a good one, I think "bleeding heart conservative" is an apt description of him... he was a true conservative, with a heart...
I have a notion that this news will be upsetting to Danny White, I'm inclined to believe he is the same type of conservative...
RIP, Jack... if ever there was a life well lived, you lived it...

Kemp was a great man who showed time and time again that conservatism breeds optimism. I know hindsight is 20/20, but I can't help but think that if Reagan had picked Kemp in 1980, we would've been spared the Bush dynasty.
RIP to a great American.

He showed that it CAN breed optimism... obviously, it can also breed extreme pessimism, if it's misused...
Why don't we have more conservatives like Jack today?? If we did, the Republican Party would not be the mess it is...

Well, I can't see how there would be an argument, since I honestly don't know why his brand of conservatism is in disfavor these days... I'd actually be interested to hear some takes on that one...
I don't find his brand of conservatism to be nearly as distasteful as the version currently being practiced...
