Not surprised,Trick.

You know,I've also noticed the difference between salutes the commander in chief gives to the marine at the foot of the steps of marine one,and air force one. When Bush returned the marines salute,it was sharp and crisp. When Obama salutes, and that's when, cause I've seen film of him going up to the marine and instead of returning the salute, reach out his hand to shake the marines hand,it's a rather sloppy salute that sorta reminds me of a wave. Sorta like the kind of salute you would expect from Hawkeye Pierce or Trapper John in Mash.

Check out that Swagga!

The circumstances seem a bit different, Obama's video looks like he was announced as he entered and Bush seemed to just show up out of nowhere.

They should have shown Bush more respect, but I'm sure somehow this is a condemnation against Obama.

I love how the guy close to the camera looks like he's about to stand up for a second, sees no one else is, adjusts his glasses and stays seated.

I'd have to see more of the context of the Bush incident. It could be something like he had already spoken to them earlier in the session then left and came back again, in which case there would be no need to stand.

Or maybe the media doesn't even try to hide their bias like the used to......

Maybe, just maybe, they don't give a crap anymore and just show their true colors, and are saying "that's right, we're uber-libs", and until YOU get on board, we'll just call you a bunch of "tea baggers"............

Maybe, just maybe, thats the answer................

So now were gonna argue the degree of the standing?

When the "they didn't stand" angle failed we have to move on to how much they were actually standing?

Actually, I think it flew completely over your head. Us soldiers understand and know that a civilian doesn't know how to salute. Some of their Salutes are actually quite funny. I had a commander that couldn't salute for the life of him, he never heard the end of it.

burm, you remind me of individuals I had met while I served. The ones that acted like they served, yet they just leached onto the military because of the money. BTW...what does NBC stand for again?? LMAO.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but the bolded part is pretty big over exaggeration. The reality is that officers have to salute virtually every soldier they pass in the streets. Say you are a Captain then you obviously salute all Majors and above. All 1st Lieutenants and below must salute you. Whereas it is conceivable for an enlisted person to walk around most of the day and only having to render a few salutes.

So in essence the salutes can at times be very "casual" and not true to prescribed form, but I think it is a bit much to say most officers have no idea how to salute.

Nuclear..Biological..Chemical. That what you looking for? I was in the service,in a combat zone. A civilian in that position of power,as "us" soldiers commander-in-chief, should learn to salute correctly. It's a sign of respect to those who serve under you,not some sloppy half hearted acknowledgement.

I agree, most officers are very casual in their salutes. I have met many that treated it as a burden, probably for the same reasons you imply above. I saluted a full bird once, he told me not to bother with that ****. But to expect the President to have a Military salute is ridiculous. He may be Commander in Chief but he is still civilian. I really hate that you all are making me defend Obama, but him shaking the hand of a soldier shows just as much respect as him Saluting a Soldier.

Not having any idea how to salute is vastly different from Officers can be a bit casual when it comes to saluting.

Just giving you a hard time burm:D . But honestly, I swear you told me you never served before, that you work for DOD. I just thought it was funny, being critical of a civilian saluting. I do believe we have enough to complain about Obama, Saluting isn't one of them. I have always believed, if you can't find something good about an individual it's not the individual it's you.

Let me clarify this, Hitler is a despicable person. However he did bring about the Autobahn. He also brought Germany out of the worst depression that country has ever seen. Now if you measure what he did that was good against the evil he committed...Hitler was an evil man.

You don't have to leave it alone. If you don't think they know how then you are entitled to your opinion although I disagree.

However, I am still not sure what you believe to be true. Is it Officers do not know how to salute which is what you originally said? Or is it that Officers often are a bit casual about their salutes and often time do not execute them properly.

Again, we can disagree on either of those points, but you have made both of those arguements and I am not sure which one it is that you believe is mostly true.

I promise you I will not lose one ounce of sleep tonight if you belive Officers do or do not know how to salute, but I would be curious to know which one it is that you believe to be true. Not that it is that important, but since we have both wasted valueable key strokes on the subject...might as well get some resolution. :D

I can't tell you how much you made me laugh! Let me ask you, did they make you go to classes to learn a proper salute like they made us?:laugh2: Honestly, I do believe some knew how to salute properly. But I'll tell you, there were some that would never be able to do it if their life depended on it.

If I say, yeah they knew how to salute than these officers were being lazy, disrespecting us while we show the utmost respect. Believe me, I did have a great deal of respect for some of the officers I met. But since I never saw them properly salute I would have to say they didn't know how:D I can understand your reasoning, you were enlisted first...you were taught the proper way:D But for your closure.....
