Anyone been to the dealers(cars, not drugs) lately?

I wonder what the attitude is there now with all the bankruptcy talk going on.

Are the dealers lowering the prices much? Was the place empty? Was there a large inventory? I heard half of the GM dealers are slated to close.

I don't imagine many people are visiting the dealerships lately, which is part of the problem.

I know that when Circuit City closed and they were liquidating, instead of lowering prices they raised everything to MSRP, I don't know if dealerships work the same way.

Circuit City had to do it for the creditors I dont know if Chysler is in the same boat since they get 8 billion to work with.

Im actually in the market for a new truck. I don't talk to dealers though. I usually buy what I want out of Vegas and have it shipped here.

You going to buy the next one state side (lower 48 stateside I should say).

Was thinking your time is close to being done in Alaska or maybe my memory is playing tricks on me again.

I want out of Alaska. My job is just to good to leave atm. The plan is still to leave within the next year or so.

My pops just got back from looking at real estate outside of Arlington. He retires next year. I don't think I will stick here once my folks leave. It will be back to Texas for me and the kid.

Im sure Ill find something down there. It may not pay as much as I get here but it shouldnt be so bad. It's a whole heck of a lot cheaper to leave there than here.

The avg house in Anchorage now is 300k+ to purchase.

They are dumps too.

Good Grief that is high.

I have heard energy bills our out of sight as well. I could understand food and housing and stuff because of having to ship everything in but figured the energy bills would be much lower.

Either way...hope you get out soon.

Can't say much for them but Acura was booming.
I went to two dealers and people were buying, including myself.

I'll say this economy helps in getting a good deal. I got a very loaded '08 for a great price.

Sounds like New Jersey.
You want a good house, you're going over 300K and closing in on 4, unless you're on the fringes, good and far from where work is. It was half a million two years ago, but that bubble burst.

Can only speak from a GM employee perspective. My mom's a recent retiree. It's a mixed bag. Nobody really knows how things are going to go if/when GM goes into bankruptcy.

Some of the older employees, like my mom's friends, kinda wished they'd taken the buyouts. A few were waiting until the current union contract to expire.

Others aren't really worried about. Just work until you're told not to come back. The Arlington plant will be one of those plants that will shut down for almost 90 days.

Where are you looking? The wife would probably flip over leaving her family and I don't blamer her, but I'd love to get out of here. Such an over crowded state, everyone is hostile.

I know plenty who ran to NC. Sounds beautiful, but I'm not sure what kind job market there is for artists.

That is another place I would love to live. It is a wondeful state.

It sure sounds it.
From what my brother in law has been telling me, it sounds too good to be true.

When most big companies go bankrupt a 3rd party comes and liquidates and that is common practice to raise everything to msrp and then discount. When the home improvement chain Hechinger went under back in 99 it was handled the exact same way circuit city's was.
