U.S. President Barack Obama has sent a message to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanding that Israel not surprise the U.S. with an Israeli military operation against Iran. The message was conveyed by a senior American official who met in Israel with Netanyahu, ministers and other senior officials. Earlier, Netanyahu's envoy visited Washington and met with National Security Adviser James Jones and with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and discussed the dialogue Obama has initiated with Tehran.
The message from the American envoy to the prime minister reveals U.S. concern that Israel could lose patience and act against Iran. It is important to the Americans that they not be caught off guard and find themselves facing facts on the ground at the last minute.
Obama did not wait for his White House meeting with Netanyahu, scheduled for next Monday, to deliver his message, but rather sent it ahead of time with his envoy.
It may be assumed that Obama is disturbed by the positions Netanyahu expressed before his election vis-a-vis Tehran - for example, Netanyahu's statement that "If elected I pledge that Iran will not attain nuclear arms, and that includes whatever is necessary for this statement to be carried out." After taking office, on Holocaust Memorial Day Netanyahu said: "We will not allow Holocaust-deniers to carry out another holocaust."

The MIG 29, developed by the soviets in the 1970s, is one of the best fighter jets used by eastern and Arab countries, as well as by Syria and Iran. It was developed to counter American-made jets such the F-16 or F/A-18. The jets were loaned to Israel by an unnamed foreign country. The experiment is meant to prepare IAF pilots for missions where they might have to fight a foreign air-force.
An additional experiment conducted recently by the air force involved loading an F-16 with weapons to its utmost capacity, or "flight in a heavy formation," as the test pilot labeled it. The experiment was meant to measure the pilot's safety and the fighter's capability when it was carrying the maximum amount of armaments. A jet so armed might be used in a long-distance sortie. The pilots interviewed would not name which foreign countries might be the targets of such sorties, but it was clear the main target of such an ambitious mission would be Iran's nuclear installations

Well then the US and our allies better make sure that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons
Well then the US and our allies better make sure that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons
Exactly. Because I think Israel is going to make sure to protect it's and keep that from happening regardless of what anyone says, including Obama.

Wouldn't you if you were the PM of Israel and a country who has said many times of their intent to whip out Israel and who are now getting closer to having the means? I know I would, Israel can't afford to hope Iran is bluffing.

israel will do whatever they need to do to protect themselves. asking us for permission to do that isn't going to make their list. obama needs to have these types of conversations behind closed doors.
no need for the posturing here.

There is a difference between telling someone they can not do something, and telling them to not do it before letting them know.
I see no problem in the US telling Israel not to do it without letting them know...seeing as we send them more money than anyone else in the world.
You gonna bomb Iran, let us know before you do.
Not a big deal to me.
Wait...It's Obama.

It seems he sent his envoy to deliver the message and he is meeting with the man.
That article, post or whatever it is did not say he made it public.
I have no way, from that post/article to know if he made it public or if it leaked out.
Just saying, before you make claims he is doing things in public it might be wise to see if that was the case or if it leaked out.

Well it seems to me that that was the sort of thing that should have been handled quietly by Obama calling Netanyahu on the phone and saying "just let us know before you do it". That would not have gotten out at all if it had been handled right.

If they let the US know before they struck Iran, then Iran would know it too, because we have too many blabber mouths in our gov.

i agree that we should be alerted.
i don't agree obama needs to go tell them that in front of the world and put israel in an awkard position of possible subservience.
he could have just picked up the phone and called him to say "hey, if you have to make a move, can you alert us beforehand"?
no need to grandstand.
WAIT - IT'S OBAMA!!!! : )

That's just it: this is publicly stated for a reason.
Iran was meant to hear the warning issued to Israel; just like Ahmadinjehad rattles his saber, this is Israel and the U.S. rattling theirs.

I am not seeing where he blabbed it to the world. Seems to indicate that he sent an envoy to tell the guy.
Am I missing something where he went out and told the world ...if so I will admit it, and I, was wrong.

well if it's in the news that an envoy went over there we all seem to know. i'm just not sure why some simple message has to be such a huge public "in the news" event.
i could be overstating it also, but again, can't he just call and keep the messages private?

You would think so but I don't have a clue how these guys go about things.
I am always amazed at the number of anonymous sources that always leak out information in administrations. I figure some of it is planned to be leaked out just to judge what the public thinks but I can't imagine all of them are planned.
So I really don't know if he said it in public, if it was a planned leak or if it was info that should have not gone out.
Don't really know at this point so I will wait and see if it comes out.

If the U.S. were as loose lipped as this appeared, we'd be dead in the water a long time ago...
Psychology in war games is an old principle. Iran has to wonder about what they're not hearing.

Noooo remember this and remember it well no one is declaring Obama was smart enough to do this to begin with. Someone, as in a TEAM, did the right thing. Dont think its 1 man handling this whole operation and all credit should always go to him.
You just leave the consitution and Bush bashing up to him, his people will take care of the rest.

More like Clinton, hes playing President and letting other people run the show, than they throw index cards in his hands and point him to the teleprompter which tells him what to say. Its all cleverly done and the public loves it. This way the people that need to get stuff done, do their jobs and he follows a map to where he needs to be and hangs out and has a good time.
Very relaxed guy for running the most powerful nation on the planet isnt he? always smiling, good things to say, relax, just hanging out drinking a beer. You should see the people that work a full day, not the same.

Glad you admitted it. :)
Obviously if we are discussing it here, the entire world is supposed to know about it. Except maybe in WV.
Israel's "vertical game" manouvres are interesting because they have a habit of using F-16's as their bombers. An Israeli F-16 is responsible for carrying out the bombing portion of the Osirak bombing, where french-made Israely Mirage 2000 fighters provided the fighter support to the F-16, which acted as the bomber. So these war games would seem to suggest that they are practicing escape and attack tactics with these components, probably for a possible bombing run or bombing runs over Iran.
The IDF does things unconventionally, both in the air and on the ground.
I am of the opinion that, ultimately, Israel WILL strike Iran. It may happen as early as this year.
Conflict between Israel and Iran is more or less inevitable. Without US support, Israel's success is definitely not guarenteed.

The good ole Israelis, we send them our weapons systems and they improve upon them. Good luck and good hunting, don't end up like most of the western world where you have to have a public opinion poll among your allies to defend yourself.

As usual Canadian is blind to the real world. Its no blank check and we have never given one to them. But then you are a little lost as regards real history.
We support them when they deserve it. We have criticised them when they deserve it. With the exception of England, they have been more reliable then any of our other so called friends.
