If anyone can think of a better small college DB to fill Kenny Gant's spot, I welcome the recommendations. I racked my brain trying to think of one. I included Haley as a LB because that's the position he played with the Niners ,and it allowed me to put Martin, Too Tall and Haley on the team. I didn't want to have to leave Too Tall off.

QB – Eddie LaBaron - Pacific
RB – Duane Thomas – West Texas State
RB – Calvin Hill – Yale
WR – Bob Hayes – Florida A&M
WR – Drew Pearson – Tulsa
TE – Doug Cosbie – Santa Clara
OT – Erik Williams – Central State Ohio
G - Nate Newton – Florida A&M
C – Herbert Scott – Virginia Union
G – Larry Allen – Sonoma State
OT – Rayfield Wright – Fort Valley State

DL – Too Tall Jones – Tennessee State
DL – Leon Lett – Emporia State
DL – Jethro Pugh - Elizabeth City St.
DL – Harvey Martin – East Texas State
LB – Hollywood Henderson – Langston
LB – Dexter Coakley – Appalachia State
LB – Charles Haley - James Madison
DB - Everson Walls - Grambling
DB – Cornel Green - Utah State
DB – Mark Washington – Morgan State
DB - Cliff Harris - Quachita

Great job. I really don't understand putting Haley down as a linebacker, but it is a good job.

I always knew that Dallas did a great job of finding guys from small schools.

What about Mark Washington?...

Good post, though... Let's not dismiss Romo just yet...

Haley played LB for the 49ers. If I don't include him as a LB, then I probably don't put him on the team ahead of either Too Tall or Martin, since both of those guys were actually drafted, groomed and played their entire careers in the Cowboys organization.

Can he atleast take a snap in the NFL before we put him on any all time lists?

Nice job Rosh. One question, what's wrong with Roger Staubach, US Naval Academy?

I debated that one, but wasn't Navy a pretty big program when Roger played there? I was really trying to focus on Div-II schools, but I did include Tulsa (Pearson) and Utah State (Cornel Green), so I guess Navy should be considered as well.

That is a tough one. By todays standards, Navy would be considered small school. So would SMU, which Meredith played for. I think you are right that Navy was a pretty big program back in the day.

Personally, I don't believe Navy has ever really been that big of an athletic program. They were good when Roger was there but I don't think they were ever a perenial national power like Army was in the 40s. I'd say they were more like Air Force was in the 90s. However, your point is taken. Good list either way.

Thanks for doing that.

Clayton Holmes? Did he really do anything in Dallas. I guess he lived up to the off field standards. :D

Timmy Newsome was also a full back. That is two pretty good ones there found from small schools.

For the most part, most of the guys on both lists are ones that Dallas brought in and developed. There are a few they traded for later in their careers, but the list really shows how good the scouting department once was.

Well... Holmes played well when he wasn't on the blow...

Newsome actually did play a little TB for us... he reminds me of Hambrick in size/style without the affinity for tripping on grass in the open field...
