Did anyone hear that?
Now that was some funny stuff.

The NFL Countdown crew last week was asked who was the most scary player they ever went up against.

Irvin said, "Wilbur Marshall. He was so dark, and had those big purple lips, and he did not use carmex or nothing. I don't know if he played like the scariest, but he sure did look the scariest."

The whole crew could not stop laughing.
It was pretty funny stuff.

By the way, I think Irvin is really doing a good job. He just seems to have a lot of fun up there.
I am really happy for him.

Funny you say that. But even as a Redskins fan, I dont really watch the BDSS since he left.

I agree, they have found the "it" in Irvin.

I don't know if there are any threads about this, but I caught the last few minutes of Irvin on Dan Patrick's radio show the other day.

He was talking about Nate Newton's legal troubles. Mike was cracking jokes about Nate being in prison and saying he should of told him to gain more weight so he wouldn't be attractive to other inmates and end up being someone's girlfriend. That sounds tacky but him and Nate were buddies and Nate probably thought it was funny, too.

Mike also told some stories about him and his teammates going out and partying at restaurants and strip clubs. He said whoever passed out at the joint they happened to be in got left with the bill. He said he got caught one time and found they had run up a like 8gs and he had to pay it. Said after that he "borrowed" some of his teammates credits cards from their lockers and got them back for it later. I couldn't believe he was saying things like that on the air but it was hilarious.

He also said that Nate never smoked weed. He said he offered it to him several times but he wasn't into it. He thought Nate was having financial problems and that was why he was in possession of all the grass he got busted with.

Boy, was he a great draft pick for the Boys?

I remember well, I was still in post-grad school at that time and the Friday before the draft my friend and I were sitting in an IHOP restaurant for breakfast reading the sports section of USA Today. We came across a mock draft by Kiper and he correctly predicted Irvin to the Boys, with the comment, "if Irvin falls to the Boys at this spot, it will be the steal of the draft!" I now hear the phrase, "steal of the draft", every year during draft time, but that was the first time I had ever heard it used. It really pumped us up, because we both wanted Irvin soooo bad!! Very good memory. Irvin will always be one of my favorite Cowboys despite his off-the-field trouble.

I have always loved Irvin, he is in my favorite top 4 Cowboys off all time.

That was a great day.
I don't know if you saw the clip after he was drafted, but man he pumped it up.
He was standing in front off his house/apartment, whatever it was, and there was a big crowd. He was so happy he was drafted by the Cowboys, and all he could talk about was taking them to the Super Bowl.
What memories!

If there were 3 players on the current team that had Irvin's passion for the game we'd be in the playoffs. Easily.

Not to many people have (or had) as much passion for the game as Irvin did/does. He's the type of player I'd love to have as a teammate.

Yeah, I remember that. Do you remember Rozelle getting choked when he was calling out Irvin's name from the podium as he was announcing the pick and he slipped and called him "Marshall" Irvin? We laughed so hard about that.

Nope, no don't remember that.
Rozelle was a good guy though. RIP!

Kinda fits the title of the thread though. LOL

I have admit, I didn't think he would be good at it. Last year, I thought he sucked. This year, he seems to be doing a lot better.

Am I the only one who thinks Irvin is annoying while doing the ESPN thing.

As a player, very few can match his production and he will always remain one of my favorites because of that. But, put him in front of a camera....god, just unbearable.

That's just my opinion though. Don't kill me for having one.

Same here Rack... yes, he had off-the-field problems, but he was as dedicated as any player that has ever played.

He used to get his full pads and start working out daily in his back yard in April. He said every player should come to camp in pads shape...

The "Playmaker" was one of my 3 Cowboy all time faves!

Tony Dorsett...I talked to him for about an hour in Hawaii before the Pro bowl in 1986 or was it 87? ha ha...I remember where I was when the Cowboys drafted him...I knew we passed the Super Bowl hump with that great RB!

Gotta love Hollywood too...Before he wrecked himself anyway...

I agree with you. Loved him as a player. Hate him on TV. All he seems to do is scream. Deion was equally as bad.

Yup, Deion's pretty awful too (if not worse).

Can't wait to see Woody in frot of the camera though, he'll be a good one.

Not saying that I am eager to see his career as a player end, but he is past his prime and it would be an awful shame for him to suffer an awful injury while playing a young man's game.

Whenever he decides to hang them up, I think Woodson will be a fine TV announcer. In my opinion, Troy Aikman is fast becoming the best on television. Moose is very underrated as well.

Think of the up roar and storm that would have surrounded Aikman if he had said that.

Yep, there are some things certain people can say but others can't.

And before anyone complains about "fairness," that's life.

I agree with you. Irvin is definitely the loudest on the set. Always swaying in his chair from laughing so hard at just about everything that is said from the other analysts.

I think it's great that he has cleaned up his life/act and is doing well. And he was definitely my favorite Cowboy player. But he is borderline annoying as hell.

Skip Bayless once said he was the most important of the triplets, can't say I disagree with that...

He was the spark that made the triplets go. Troy was the MIND, Emmitt was the BODY, and Michael was the SOUL.

But Emmitt was what made the offense go. If ya want proof, look back to the 93'-94' season when Emmitt had that two game contract holdout. Cowboys went 0-2 without Emmitt before claiming their 4th Super Bowl title.

As opposed to the 96-97 season when Irvin was out for 5 games?? What was Dallas, 1-4 during that stretch?

Good point. But I still think Emmitt made the offense go as do many mediots and personalities around the league.
