Making the switch to DTV! Yeah, having TWC for 2 years in NY, then Comcast for 2 years, I am ready to say good-bye to cable, hello satellite.

Even with the 24 months commitment, in the first year, I will be saving $80/month (going from $133 to $55), and in the second year, I will be saving $55/month (to $80) for internet and tv. That's a savings of roughly $1500 :)

Plus, I will be getting on top of that $200 AMEX gift card, free HD-DVR for the first year, free HBO/Starz/Showtime for 6 months.

Got the Plus HD-DVR ($54.99) - $10 referral - $10 AAA = $35 for 12 months
Internet is AT&T DSL Lite (19.95) - don't do much except surfing and email and downloading research articles. might upgrade if it is still too slow.

I've got some search codes that will make your dvr work better...

They are built into the unit, just not widely publicized...

Also, you can buy a big external hard drive and hook it up usb to have more space.

The only problem is that during a storm, you're looking at blueness...

And storms here in Kansas are a problem.

I couldn't wait to get rid of direct tv when I had it. I lost my signal all the time.

Good luck with it VC. You get as many storms as we do so hopefully you don't have the problems I had.

but on the bright side if you get the ticket you aren't stuck watching the Titans any more. :D

Comcast loses service even when there isn't a storm...so did TWC. I can't even access my On Demand (Error, call blah blah blah), and am too lazy to get it fixed since I just use Tivo to record what I want.

DirectTv has gotten much better when it comes to signal strength. In the last 3 years, Ive lost my signal 3 times during storms and all 3 times it was back up within 15 minutes.

I will say I am a little upset that my old Tivo DualTuner Series 2 will only record 1 satellite channel at a time (TEARS!)...at least the DirecTV HD-DVR will be able to record two, and sometime at the end of this year will release a DirecTV Tivo HD that I will be jumping on.

BTW, I have realized that comcast does have the best internet. After I collect my AT&T cashbacks (1-2 months), I will be switching back, and try to get the promotional $19.99 price for 6-12 months.

And I just bought a 1TB external harddrive for $75 for my DVR

Verizon Vios guy knocked on my door yesterday and told me how much money he could save me over Directv. I asked him if he offered the Sunday Ticket.(I knew they didn't) He said no and I told him I would not make a change even if he offered service for free. No Sunday Ticket, No change.

I would say I would change tho if they ever lost Sunday Ticket. Directv knows taht is probaly the reason 90% of the people get and keep their service.

WHAT???? Comcast the best internet?? They're awful!!!

My first bill will be $57 (after taxes and some TN phone crap fees) for 3M internet and basic local phone (I wanted to get in on $175 cashback)

Comcast even when not on a promotion is $42 something. If you are on a promotion it is only $20. And, the speed is much faster than 3M/500Kbps

I am canceling the phone and downgrading to $19.95 (sadly only 768K) on the 31st day after activation so that I don't have to pay for what I don't use, but still get my cashback. After that, if I don't like how slow it is, I will be switching back to comcast. I will be a new customer since the current account is under my mom's name.

I guess it depends on where you live, I have had good luck with my Comcast internet connection. I am consistently getting 15 MB down and 2.4 MB up. Not too shabby if you ask me.

I just looked at the schedule, and am HAPPY! Unless some flexing goes on, there will be NO games in which Tennessee plays at the same time as Dallas. This makes the chances of being able to catch the Cowboys play all the better.

I'm waffling on ST b/c it is expensive, and I would say would probably only be needed for a couple of weeks. I will also be abroad in December for an international conference as well, so unfortunately, I can't really take advantage of it unless I slingbox and the internet I get is awesome (it was spotty last year).

I've heard of people getting ST for $25/month with free Superfan, but $8/week is too expensive. I'd rather just watch it slightly delayed on some internet stream for the week(s) it won't be on.

But, I will be extremely happy I can now take advantage of watching it in HD! I've never had HD before, so it will be a real treat :)

Hey Trickblue,

is it for all HD-DVR? I'm getting 2 HR23's. Thanks!
