The details will eventually surface about how extensive Jackson's prescription medication use actually was, but I think it's very apparent why he began using them in the first place. For all this wealth, he wasn't able to prevent injury situations from occuring which caused him to suffer severe burns, broken bones, etc. That in itself isn't justification if he became addicted to the medications, but it does more clearly explain the origins of the addiction(s).
