Was watching the Arizone-Rams game to see some Emmitt. Announcers said E is in his last year of contract for Arizona. They then said E wants atleast one more year. The real intresting part was when they said Emmitt wants to come back to finish his career in Dallas. They speculated that was why he helped Jerry by doing the new stadium commercial.
These guys probably have no clue but intresting news on a bad loss day. If there is any justice then Eddie George, Richie Anderson and Lee/Bickerstaff are history and Emmitt comes home to back up J. Jones. Ofcourse the way luck goes if he does come home it would probably be a sign/retire deal.

PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASEEEE, PLEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE, DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN. man. The only thing worse than being strapped to a chair and watching Parcells play out his stubborn string would be to watch another whole season of 3.5 yards a carry from Smith.

As a starter at the half he had a 4.1 average. He could be getting close to one more 1000 yard season. Not to mention he is as good as a god (or should be) to the Cowboy Nation. As a change of pace, b/u he could be awsome. He would have been such a better option than Eddie George this year. I would welcome Emmitt home with wide open arms.

I agree, but parcells doesn't like high profile players. I don't see it happening. JMO

Emmitt Smith, for all his records, is a me first player. Has always been that way, will always be that way. He is not what the "future" needs.

Sorry, but bring him back. I would welcome the move. He would be a good mention to JJ.

We have a starter in Julius, why not bring Emmitt back for spot carries? He still has something to offer as a backup 5-10 carry a game back. Julius would benefit from this more than anything, imo.

I guess you all forgot what Emmitt did for the Cowboys? I hope that Emmitt is brought back. If he wants to come back, he obviously realizes he won't be a starter, but just a backup or to relieve Jones. What better mentor would you want for Jones? Eddie George....please. Richie Anderson....ummm no. Emmitt would be perfect for the minimum and for team spirit. Would only help imo to bring him back for his last year.

Bring him back, but he must accept a backup role.

If he were to come back, and I hope he does...I would not want to see Emmitt inactive like George.

Drop EG and Richie and bring in Emmitt. Simple enough.

When he is ready to retire....let him sign with the team in the offseason and then retire a cowboy.
We do not need him for a season though, even as a backup.
But hey that is just one guys opinion.

The overpaid prima donna did not want to take a pay cut from the 10 million he was scheduled to make. Emmitt has always been a me first player, that is a fact. He did not want to take a pay cut and will not want to be a backup to anyone. Not then, not now, not ever.
As I said in another thread he is (was) one of the 10 best runningbacks of all time. But we do not need him, his salary or his me, me and me attitude here. We already have Meshawn. Curly

Couldn't have said it better myself.
Emmitt could become a free agent, not sign with anyone. We could sign him the 2nd game of the season...Not paying him a full season salary....Let him have one carry, then retire.
Or, if he would take a back up role..ala Marcus Allen at the end of career, I would pay him a million.

What true Cowboy fan wouldn't want to have Emmit back so that he could retire a cowboy?

Sorry to say it, but this is dead on. That is the only reason he is playing today... to pad his stats.

Smith retiring as a Cowboy is one thing. Emmitt pouting on the sidelines because Julius Jones is getting "his" carries could be an entirely different issue.
I don't think Emmitt would ever want to be a backup in Dallas. This was his city.
If he wants to sign and retire, I'm more than fine with that. If hes willing to be a happy backup, I'm fine with that. If hes going to want more than a handful of snaps a game, I'm not fine with that.
Old and slow sure has won a lot of games this year hasn't it?

He may want to come back in part to prove a point. Before he left he said that he would have stayed in Dallas as a backup if the guy in front of him was better than him. After we smacked him in the face and wanted him to sit behind Troy Hambrick he signed with Arizona.
Maybe he'd return to help Julius and prove his point.

Me 1st player? Guy plays with a separated shoulder against the Giants to help the Cowboys win the division, sorry me 1st players do not do that.

I agree BP...I loved him during his stay here, but he needs to retire. We dont improve our team by signing him...

We are an ungrateful breed, us Cowboys fans.
We booed Aikman at the end of his career and demanded that Randal Cunningham start...ugh
Emmitt gets grief for being a "me" player. Its absurd.
This is the same guy that left everything on the field for us for a decade. We owe alot of good memories to the real triplets.
Some of you should be ashamed.
*** and by the way, Im not lobbying for Emmitt to return, I just think its crazy the sucker punches the guy gets whenever his name comes up.

They do when there is a rushing title on the line like there was that day...

If Emmitt is "me first" then I would like the list of players who are not.
In Emmitt's last days in Dallas some people finally discovered that he is not perfect. GASP! Let he that is without sin cast the first stone.
But on a daily basis Emmitt says and does the right thing the vast majority of the time. He is not a god. But there is much to admire about the man. Much worthy of emulating IMO.
If you've paid attention to Emmitt's time in AZ you would not be overly concerned about him accepting a backup role. I've read comments where he came into this year doing just that, accepting a b/u role to Marcel Shipp - but then Shipp went down and its been Emmitt getting most of the time on center stage.
I wouldn't rule out a return to Dallas under the right circumstances. For minimum, as a b/u, with Parcells full support, and with no young talented player suffering as a result. But I think that is all highly unlikely.
I do think Emmitt when he retires will take his rightful place as a Cowboy great and support and promote the organization with class. I look forward to that.

I'd take Emmitt back in a heartbeat...he's head and shoulders above the runner Richie Anderson is and can still be a decent receiver out of the backfield. Unfortunately, the reason why Emmitt left was because he and Parcells didn't see eye-to-eye and there's no reason to believe that they all of the sudden will three years later.

Emmitt always gave his all for the Cowboys that I will never forget. As for his contract with the Cowboys Emmitt like any other player is going to do what is best for him and his family.

This is pretty simple. Bring him back. Emmit blocked and picked up the blitz well. He could catch a pass. He was always better between the tackles and this was even more true later in his career. As a fan, I think the Cowboys would show class in bringing him back. Just my opinion.

I'd love to see him back if he's ready to be a mentor. I still think if Hambrick wasn't such a mouthpiece Emmitt would have been ready before and would never have left. But when a nobody challenged his ability publicly he had to challenge it.
Jules would benefit greatly from Emmitt's knowledge and I think he's got enough humility to appreciate it.
Emmitt's one of the greatest Cowboys in history. It would only be fitting for him to retire in the colors. :lombardi:
