Yes, I am one of those fans who can never really bring myself to give up on the season, even though it's pretty much over..and yes, I realize this is a pretty pathetic attempt at salvaging hope...
BUT it seems we still have an outside shot ("outside" being used lightly) shot at the playoffs.
Here is what needs to happen for Dallas to get in...
(Of course, winning the last 2 games and finishing 7-9)...
(Team we have to root for is in parenthesis)...
Week 16...
philly-st louis (philly)
atlanta-new orleans (atlanta)
carolina-TB (TB)
arizona-seattle (arizona)
chicago-detroit (either one...?)
This would set the records at....
dallas 6-9, skins 5-10, rams 6-9, carolina 6-9, TB 6-9, arizona 6-9, seattle 7-8, bears and lions (one at 6-9, one at 5-10)
Week 17...
atlanta-seattle (atlanta)
TB-arizona (either one...?)
new orleans-carolina (carolina)
jets-rams (jets)
lions-titans (titans, but it doesnt matter if lions are 5-10)
GB-chicago (GB, but doesnt matter if chicago is 5-10)
This would set the records at....
dallas 7-9, rams 6-10, panthers 7-9, TB and arizona (one 6-10, one 7-9), seattle 7-9, bears 6-10
I know we'd hold tiebreaker over Seattle, so it depends on whether or not we hold tiebreaker over the Bucs, Panthers, or Cards...as long as we hold tiebreaker over one of those teams, we still have a shot!
IT AIN'T OVER!
:D
(Can anyone provide info on our tiebreaker scenarios with Arizona and TB?)

in 3 and 4 way ties head to head does not matter...I thinkin the end we're gonna have too many conference losses and be way to upside down on net pts for us to have a chance
of course your incredible scenario assumes we win not one but two games, and right now tht just seems unlikely, especially since Parcells insists on starting the QB who "gives us the best chance to win" and playing other dinosaurs who have done nothing but sucked for most of the yr

I am sorry, but I do not want to be the first NFL team to go to the playoffs with a losing record. Play the young guys the next two game and prep for 2005.

That would truly be pathetic.
Forced to make the playoffs in spite of everything Vinnie could do.
The NFC has sunk to an all time low if we are still in the running for the playoffs. :(

Philadelpha, Atlanta, Green Bay, Minnesota, and either Seattle or St. Louis (Div. winner) are all guaranteed to finish ahead of us.
St. Louis would win any tie with us ( Either a better conference record, or by 2-3 or 3-2 against 1-4 in common games).
Arizona would win any tie with us ( 4-1 vs 3-2 in common games)
New Orleans would win any tie with us (Head to head)
Detroit, Chicago, and Seattle would lose any tie with us (Head to head)
Tampa Bay would lose any tie with us (2-3 vs 4-1 in common games)
Washington and New York would be eliminated by our victories.
A tie with Carolina would be determined by strength of victory, which we would *probably* lose. (If I calculated correctly, the most combined wins our defeated opponents could possibly have is 43, and the WORST combined wins Carolina's defeated opponents could have is 41.
So if St. Louis doesn't win the division, they'd have to lose both games or we're out. To win the division, the Rams need a win and 2 Seahawks losses,OR 2 wins and a Seahawks loss.

I realize most of you have accepted our fate, but those of you starting these threads: !!! You are lowering yourself to foreskin fan status. We arent making the playoffs and that is that. I dont like it, but at some point you have to stop being delusional. We will still get the pleasure of beating on Washington.

I should shut up for pointing out that we're still MATHEMATICALLY alive? Why? Because it's unlikely that we're making the playoffs? Because I already pointed that out 100 times. Maybe you should " " and read my posts more carefully.
I'm not saying we WILL make the playoffs (we almost certainly won't), BUT we're still alive. That's all I was saying. So for anyone who HATES completely giving up on a season (like me), it's reason to still keep a microscopic amount of hope alive.
Sensitive bunch of bags tonight, are we?
