Rather strange interview. Views himself as blameless and attributes "retiring" as "being free." Didn't like what the millions did to him - seemed to hold him back. Couldn't pass a drug test right now but still looks to be in very good shape. Has 3 children but still supports them, even though he legally owes the Dolphins 8.6 mil. Mike Wallace thinks he'll come back so he can financially sustain his lifestyle when he grows older.

I'd like to see who WOULD take him back.
I would be PO'd if the Cowboys EVER signed him.

He said he wanted to play for the Raiders. He said their fans seemed to be more accepting of "wierdos."

He didn't actually say that he wanted to come back and play did he? I don't think he wants to come back PERIOD.
Although, I would agree that the Raiders would be more accepting of "wierdo's". It IS California, after all.

He said his decision to retire was made in the course of two days. He "doesn't know what will happen tomorrow," but if he did come back he would like to play for the Raiders.

Not sure what that's suppose to mean? They don't get much wierder than Jeffrey Dahmer in the good ole midwest ;)
Besides, the Raiders are so bad that Al Davis would try to sign Red Grange if he could get a helmet to stay on his skull.

Not quite, Milwaukee, WI. A real wacko (http://www.findadeath.com/) cool site.
Although I am from the Midwest (Chicago) we do have that Zodiac dude that the never found out here.
The Bay Area is definately more socially forgiving and that's probably why Ricky see's this as an ideal location.
~not to mention the killer bud...so I've been told~
He is a strange young man who follows the beat of his own drummer but with that kind of talent someone will take a chance on him.

Ricky is just a burn out. Smoked too much. Fried a few too many brain cells.
More power to him if he wants to quit.
As was said earlier, I don't ever want to see him playing for a team I care about.

Is it possible to smoke too much? :shades:
And how many teams to you care about?

Ricky has always been like this and I am not shocked. He is a person who is fighting to discover who he is and I do not blame him at all. And I don't believe he ruined the dolphins season. They would not be in the playoffs with him...just like last year.
Was diagnosed early in NO WITH ANXIETY DISORDERS.
He does not handle press well, fears that, is insecure and wants to "get away" Dope is his escape.
He's a Manchild. That interview was telling. A great athlete trapped - he plays this buddhist and holistic angle. He's low functioning. He retired as I suspected to "mask" his pending drug suspension. But he tonight went on record today saying he's still toking. I doubt he ever plays again.
I am sad as a fan, I saw him run up 180 or so on Pats in person 2 years back. His size speed ratio was freakish. He ran wild that day - only a Wanny choke lost that game for Dolphins.
But his head was never really in it -

When you look back at how much time Ricky got to spend with the great Earl Campell, who can barely walk now a days, is it hard to understand his point of view? I just get a kick out of those that look at him as doing something wrong for retiring. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy a good smash mouth style football game, but it is what it is, a brutal sport and I'm sure more players than not look back after retirement and question was it worth in the end, more especially those without rings and/or a place in the hall of fame. That is just my opinion on the issue.
On another note was it me or did Ricky come off a little like Micheal Jackson weird?

Both come across to me as intellectually still being children.
Ricky is just a burn out. Smoked too much. Fried a few too many brain cells. If brain cells were really an issue, there's a lot of pretty decent *football* players who wouldn't be on the field today .. I mean, Sean Taylor scored a 10 on the Wonderlic .. I think you get 10 points just for putting your name on the test ....

Maimi would be a much better team right now if he did not walk out on them right before the start of the season. He was the biggest star on their team.
They built their offense around him and did not have anyone of the same caliber to back him up. I am not saying they would have won the Super Bowl with him but they would have definatly been better with him.
There is no intellegent reason that I can think of for him to walk away from the game. You make hay while the sun is shining. He should make the most of his career while he still can. When he is 48 years old what are his options? This is a guy that will end up homeless, he just is not wired right. Does not have his priorities in life right.
He has natural talent and the physical capability that few have and he does not have a lick of sense.
And what is with the Michael Jackson feminine act? That was , ah, different.
He has went off the deep end and it is much deeper than we thought. Curly
