I hate these guys.
Check that, I REALLY hate these guys.
Mike Patrick - emphasizes everything as if it were hugely important. Also has to mention Favre or Steve Young or some other QB not even playing in the game at least ten times.
'With five minutes left in the first quarter, THE BUCS ARE ON TOP 10 - 3!!!!!!!
He's hardly the worst though.
Paul McGuire - Whiny, no-talent clown - and I'm being reasonable. He reminds me a lot of Vito from 'Viva La Bam' (if anyone is familiar with that show). Basically, he just stutters and doesn't make sense half the time. It doesn't help that he's a diehard Eagles fan who was overly bias last week. This guy adds nothing to the trio.
HE'S hardly the worst though.
Joe Theismann - I wish someone would euthanize this guy. He rides the jock of any QB no matter how crappy they're doing during the game. Even more unforgettable is his love of the Redskins. He makes McGuire's bias of the Eagles look like puppy love. He openly cheers for the Redskins during games. He never has anything good to say about the Cowboys because, of course, he's an ex-Redskin. His hair is annoying. His voice is annoying. And he has a peg leg.
This trio is akin to fingers on a chalkboard. They were molded by the fingers of Satan himself and cast from hell to destroy the world.
Simply put, I hate them.

Not sure about this year, but in the past, Mike Patrick's wardrobe looked like something from 1975.
His Holy Cow comments crack me up. Example:
"Holy Cow, there's 10 minutes left in the game and Baltimore is down by 10!"

I couldn't agree more.
Whenever I hear these hacks I think "doesn't ESPN realize how bad they are?"
And then I remember all the other clowns ESPN puts on the air hosting sportscenter. They are just plain bad. And they can't even see it themselves.

Call me sentimental but I've always liked Mike Patrick since ESPN first started airing Sunday Night Footbal.
The other two are like an acid enema.

i'm glad they got fred hickman on sportscenter now. i always thought he was one of the best.
I hate these guys.
LMAO, I couldn't agree more. Maguire(sp) is the one that puts me over the edge and I'm sick of hearing about how every freaking player they talk about is a "really, really, great guy" :banghead: !
Wish they would put a announcers off/on button on the remote.

Typical exchange:
Patrick - 'Green busts through the line FOR THREE YARDS!!!'
McGuire - 'Didja see dajob daline did? Dis guy Davenport busts through daline and WHAMMO busta through dasecond level and lied the whootsout ondalinedaba.'
Theismann - Peyton Manning did an incredible job of selling the draw here. Notice how he doesn't hand off the ball until after he shows pass? That is a textbook example of a guy playing at a consistently higher level than the other 21 guys on the field. God, I love my hair.'

I'm surprised that most NFL fans don't understand that there are 30 teams out there?
Sure, some of the markets are small compared to Dallas, but the media is responsible to cover all markets evenly. I think this in it's self, is a pretty hard feat to accomplish.
You make it sound as if some of these announcers are so biased against some teams that they just shoot the finger at the program manager as blow their own opinion out to the audience.
Yep, that’s how the world works and I guess it’s a good thing that these announcers own the studios or they’d get fired?

But you have to admit....that Peyton Manning is really something special. It won't work with every NFL QB, but you know how things run in trends...I wonder how long it will be before a few other teams with smart veteran QB's start having them call all of their own plays at the line of scrimmage...with all the specialization and blitzing, it sure makes sense if you have a smart QB.

Did you read the article a few weeks ago that ESPN actually LIKES them to do all the blather?!?! I think it was Dr. Z on SI (or maybe Peter King)--he was saying something to the effect that a lot of his readers had commented that they wished announcers would just shut up. But when he talked to the ESPN producer of the Sunday night games, the guy told him that he WANTED the idiots to blab constantly & not have any empty time (other than the space between Theismann's ears)!

The thing is they suck so bad they get ratings. Its like a traffic accident. You can't help but gawk.
Its painful at times, sure but all ESPN cares about is the weekly check they cash.
I am pretty sure all 3 work for free. Theisman gets free hair products and makeup. Maguire gets free depends and a bottle of Ouzo. But they dont require pay checks so what can ya do.
When it gets real bad just turn off the sound and talk your wife or girlfriend. LOL.

I hear that we're going to do it next year with Vinny. Parcells said the problem this year is that Vinny didn't have enough control. Vin may also have some say in offensive personnel decisions, can't have him throwing the ball to guys he doesn't like.

Agreed...Patrick does not bother me but I am not sure if it is because of the McGwire and Theeezemans idiotic ramblings and love spats.
That group by far is the worst crew on TV IMO.
Normally I really do not get bothered by many announcing crews but that one drives me crazy except for Patrick.
Madden gets on my nerves with his Brett Favre man love but other then that he is ok.

It is a proven fact that that is precisely why McGuire was fired by NBC. His hatred of the Cowboys shone through during Super Bowl XXX and in 1997 in a game vs Jacksonville... he was so biased during both games that NBC dumped him like a hot potato and Ebersol even said so... He is an old AFL kicker who has nothing but man-love for any AFC team and the Eagles.
McGuire is like fingernails on a blackboard.
Patrick is ok, with the exception of his "Holy Cow" rants, and I'm waiting for the day he sacks Theismann and puts him out of the booth like LT did to him on the field.
While you are on the subject of the ESPN announcers and how bad they are, remember it could be worse.... I have a tape from 1987 of a preseason game between Dallas and the Raiders when they had John Matuszak in the booth... I wanted to stick needles under my fingernails because I knew it would hurt less than listening to him.

I was one of those guys that wrote Dr Z and King asking for the commentators to shut up. One of the reasons I always liked Pat Somerall was that he let the game speak for itself and just smoothed out the rough parts. He also tends to like the Boys.
You all crack me up but the absolute worst commentator ever is EASILY, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEasily....Boomer Esiason. The guy was so petrified of a dead air moment that he just kept talking and talking. It was horrible.
The color commentary position is grossly overrated. The current guys make me wish for Dennis Miller back.

I should have put Favre instead of Manning, wasn't thinking.

I think it was said on this board on another thread. Something to the effect of: the only thing entertaining being heard from Theismann was the sound of his leg snapping.
