We need to upgrade at WR. Keyshawn and Glenn have 1-2 more good years, then we're in trouble with Morgan....and what about Copper?

We have LOTS of needs ... WR is one of them.
How about Mark Clayton from Oklahoma? I see a lot of OK games and he looks like a good WR for our other No 1 Draft pick.

Now imagine what our offense could look like next year with jj@rb, key@wr, witten@te AND Mike Williams as our #1 pick...then, then, then, just imagine if we actually brought in a servicable, younger than the dawn of age, don't throw every lead away, QB!
Warner?
Brees?
Kitna?
But seriously, I think we need to take our eyes off the WR position for the time beinig--QB is THE crucial element that we must fill before September. Henson is not that guy and I'm pretty convinced of it now. Bill & Jerry aren't telling us something, and all signs point to it not being good imo. And in Irvins and the rest of the ESPN Sunday Countdown crew's opinions too.

We'll be ok with Key and Glenn back. But it won't hurt my feelings to get a top flight WR but only as sure fire as they come. Otherwise OL, DT, DE, and S/CB are higher needs IMO.
But I'm wrong a lot.

I like Clayton I'm an Oklahoma fan but I just don't know if Clayton fits. I think he will be as good as the Santana Moss's and Steve Smiths of the World but if we are gonna spend a first rounder its hard to do it on a guy under 6 feet tall. I'm not saying I would draft him in the first but Mark Bradley could end up being better than Clayton when its all said and done. He's 6'2" runs a 4.35 and is just learning how to play WR. But the guy is the most talented of the OK WRs. He scored 11 TDs and he didn't even start half the year.

I hope Jerry Porter settles down if he keeps having these 150 yard 3 TD games he's gonna get franchised.

I would agree. Clayton is a great WR, but Bradley is a better all around player. He is the king of making trick plays work for OU. One of the best.

I would love to see Porter in a Cowboys jersey next year. I think he can be another TO w/a lesser attitude... however the Boys would need a QB to get him the ball.

We're in trouble - Key is okay but isn't making enough big plays given how defenses are overplaying the run. Glenn was playing at a Pro Bowl level pre-injury but who knows how he will recover after that foot injury at his age.
Morgan is terrible. I suggest that we just get rid of him if he doesn't show more in TC next year - he may still be slightly slowed by his hammy so I'm willing to give him a break.
Copper has some potential but to expect him to be anything better than a #3 WR is expecting too much.
I would suggest at least bringing in one quality player this offseason - draft and/or FA.
Porter would look awfully good. Young guy, great size, good speed, makes lots of big plays and Oakland probably can't franchise him with Woodson being a FA again this year.
Mike Williams would also be nice.
Getting both would be quite a coup for the offense.

If they can't get him go Defense with both picks and all of Day 1.

We think so much alike it's scary. Mike WIlliams has everything but great speed. And we did alright with Irvin who had ok speed. THis kid is big, big hands and can run great routes even as young as he is. He is the closet thing to a Randy Moss type player since, well Moss. If we don't get him then again, Defense, especially DT is the way to go and hopefully we solve the RCB position in FA.

Have to have that on defense.
If Carlos Rogers CB Auburn or Antaaj Hawthorne DT Wisconsin really do drop to the 2nd and we get one of them I would be so happy.
Williams is projected around the Buffalo pick right now. Here's hoping.

Mike Williams looks pretty polished, so I wouldn't mind taking him.
I'd rather go the FA route. Remember it usually takes a good 2-3 years to develop a WR.
And it's not a stellar year for WRs, so if Williams is off the board, I pray we don't reach for another simply because it's a need.

Key I think has 3 or 4 more good years left. When Henson is finally the man Key is gonna be huge for Henson. I like that. Glenn I dunno how much longer he has. But I would like to see upgrades at WR. But that is last on this years off season list.
1. We need to really improve the OL. Our OL sucks
2. Improve the DL.
These are 2 most important for now
3. Try and get a vet QB like a John Kitna if Henson isnt ready yet.
4. Bigger LBs.
Maybe we can get 1 or 2 better WRs but its not the most important thing right now.

We have so many holes to plug on both sides of the line. But Mike Williams is my top pick to surround our young QB's with all the weapons he can use.

Are you saying someone is projecting Williams to drop to around the 20th pick? Man if he is there with the 15th pick and we already went D with Johnson or Antaaj then I would make a move to go up and get him. He is that good.

I wouldn't mind DJ either, but would rather draft the kid out of Virginia (if he comes out). He wouldn't have as an immediate impact, but I think his size/speed ratio would translate better in the long run.
And if BP really does like his LBs on the hefty side, I can't see him wanting DJ. He has a pretty slender frame and may have trouble putting on weight to play the run at the next level. Personally, I wouldn't mind too much if he's a one dimensional passrusher in the NFL, seeing as how we have very little in terms of "playmakers" on our team.

No way that lasts after the combines and individual workouts.
Here's one that has him at #7 in a mock.

Man, if that happens, someone is going to get a steal! I didn't think the one year layoff would result in his value dropping that low. Shoot, let's drop down our first pick to around 15th pick and get another pick in the second or third. But knowing our luck, someone will sandbag and grab him right before we pick.

would mike williams even be INVITED to the combine? he has lost his college eligibility along with clarett. wouldn't both those guys have to hold individual workouts for scouts?

A lot of top picks decide to run at Pro days anyway these days instead of the Combine and that is going to be the make or break test for Williams' draft fortunes.

So I take it that you think we have a lot of holes on defense.
I agree with you. I would actually draft d-line in round 1 with both picks. I agree with a previous poster here that said it takes longer for WRs to make an impact in this league than other positions.
Pass rushing DEs make the biggest, fastest impact in the NFL if they have the tools to play at this level. I want DE this year, and I think Parcells does too.
Spending early picks on cornerbacks is a waste. The refs are eager to throw flags at corners if they even breathe on the opposing WR.
The only to survive in this pass-happy NFL is to rush the passer with a good DE. The corners are toast regardless of what round they are drafted in.
With that in mind, I say we go DE and DT in round 1 if they are the best players available.

I would agree with not spending a top-10 pick on a CB. However, with our 1b pick from the Bills or our own second rounder, there may be a good corner available - Webster, Miller, Pac Man Jones, Carlos Rogers. These are quality players who could definitely improve our defense. It means no more Nate Jones on the field. It means Frazier and Hunter can come off the bench as our nickel and dime DBs.
I'm not overly enamoured with high picks at DT and I'm skeptical about spending the 1a pick on any of the DEs in this draft. I do like Mike Williams and either of the premier LBs (Brooks. Johnson) for the 1a pick.
