I think what it boils down to is that Henson is a project. Parcells has probably already made up his mind on the chances of Henson being a successful NFL QB and how long it will take. None of us know what this is, though, and if Parcells is willing to wait. I think Parcells and Jones realize that the NFC is full of mediocrity and a few successful free-agent signings lands you in the Super Bowl these days. But I'm not Parcells, so who knows what he's thinking. Henson may very well be the starter next year. Parcells has never been known for going along with what the fans want. If so, Chad Hutchinson would have been our starter last year. I see nothing wrong with bringing in a good veteran QB and giving Henson a challenge. I think the cap ramifications are what worry most people, though, with a free agent QB.

I agree with what you have said.
A QB can't win a game all by himself, but he CAN make it alot easier on the team as a whole if he's a good one.
I think it's imperative that we go balls-to-the-wall during FA. Let's get started EARLY in FA and set the prices. If we wait too long, the so-called "blue-chippers" could be snatched up quick and we'll be stuck with more Wiley's.

What's the point if we have the next Montana or Brady if our dumb ***'d coach won't let him play?
I doubt we'll ever know what we have in either Romo or Henson as long as Parcells remains.
You know... I was really excited when Parcells was first hired but after this season and questionable playcalling and personnel moves I'm really beginning to lose faith in Parcells. And his continuous support of Vinny and this "best chance to win" BS isn't exactly helping.

Parcells wants everyone to forget about Henson. This way expectations may drop across the board and Henson could develop with less pressure. If Parcells thought that Henson was crap he would have cut him. He believes Henson has talent, but that he needs alot of work and practice at a lower level before he'll be ready for prime time. In essence, Parcells has a fundamental belief that Henson needs some minor league work before he can go to the show.
I am very happy we have such a great coach in Dallas. I am sick of all of these impatient fans longing for the days of Campo, or some inexperienced college replacement for the hall of famer we have in Valley Ranch.
It's ludicrous.

Agree on your take although not exactly the same reasoning, about Parcells. I was a Koolaid drinker but not sure about BP that much this year. But I still believe he will eventually right the ship.
And from listening to BP, I really believe there is a very good chance Henson or Romo will start next season, even if it is not right out Camp, for sure sometime pretty early in the season.
And of both, I truly believe he thinks most of Henson and is indeed trying to hide Henson from fans expectations. I think if this week anyone other vinny is going start, it will be Romo. And maybe even both games.

Would not suprise me to see Romo get the nod this week after all he will be a FA after the 2005 season

My take is that his handling of Henson and Romo leads me to believe that he thinks both of them have potential to be very good. He's going out of his way not to do anything that will damage or set back their development. If that means going slow and allowing these guys to grow into the job, that's what he's gonna do. If Parcells was really only looking short term he would be rushing these guys in and trying to force the issue. The fact that he's not leads me to believe that he not only thinks alot of out QB's, but also doesn't intend to leave anytime soon.

Good observation about his intention to stay. I agree there, didn't think about that.

I dont think Henson has been forgotten. It is just a matter of when BP decides to stop playing the VINNY card and yank ole brittle bones out of there and get some fresh blood in there. I would start henson one week and romo the next just to get some insight...(yet a very small teeny weeny insight) as to there playing abilities. But knowing BP and his stubborness he will ride that VT horse until it drops dead.

Signing a QB and Henson as a project for the future are not mutually exclusive.
I always thought that Parcells is "throw to the wolves" type of coach. I think he even said that in one of his press conf may be regarding a RB. He is not a protective, nurturing type of coach in my opinion. That's why it scares me not to see Henson or Romo especially with our losing season. The only hope I have is Jones referred to Henson as "our future" after the Bears game. May be he saw how good Henson is in all the practices but right now other than this hope, I don't have a good feeling about our young QB's.

Well I think he said it depends on the person and circumstances. He threw Bledsoe to wolves becuase he knew he didn't have a good team anyway and didn't have much of a choice.
If Vinny wasn't here, I bet Drew or Tony would have seen the field lot quicker.

I'm not apposed to drafting a low round QB...6th rounder with one of our conditional pics. Some teams will do this every year and take a couple years to develop them...of they stick...we have something.
I'm NOT for getting a top round pic...not this year.

If he plays VT again, he's plain nuts. If he plays Romo, its nothing but obvious that he's making a statement to JJ. Nothing against Romo, but he has shown no reason whatsoever that he should play ahead of Henson. If he gives a lame excuse about the skins defense being too good to throw at Henson, thats bull. Their defense is ranked high because they only score 6 points a game. The other team just gets up by 17 and runs the clock out.
