View Full Version : Question for the Board: If we could win last

season with QC at the helm, a top ranked defense, and a very average running game, could we win with,
say,
a QB like McMahon from Detroit, or Couch, or Holcomb, or Bouman etc., and
a solid running game, and
a solid defense?
By "winning" I'm implying a season with at least 9 wins.
I'm not asking whether it's good enough for a Super Bowl birth, but whether we could win and still develop Henson in the meantime?

McMahon's name has been brought up a few times on this board. I'd say NO. I remember his days in Rutgers, and man, he stunk it up. Maybe it was the team around him, but I have no faith in his abilities.
Hensen is world's ahead of him in talent. I don't know much about Romo.
Couch is washed up.
Regardless of the QB issue ... you're right on one aspect, let's upgrade the talent around the QB and on the D.

bill says the odds are that either henson or romo will be our starter in 2005. that doesn't mean we won't have a veteran - i believe vinny will be gone and another qb brought in. possibly we will draft a qb who has played 3 or 4 years in college, and let henson go to NFLE to gain him experience.

Right now Dallas' best chances next season are with Kitna at QB with Drew learning. Vinnie can't get it done anymore, he's not accurate enough to force teams out of 8-man fronts.

I think if you've seen Kitna play this yr its obvious that is wrong. Kitna had a fluke yr last yr and is proving it...Kitna has looked like a hopeless jorneymen in the couple of games he's been in this yr and was terrible in his start this past week
thats also my reason for not wanting someone like Drew Brees, he's had an amazing yr this yr but one season doesnt make me forget about how poor the guy was the rest of his career.

If we go out of house for a starter next year, I would bet we are chasing after hassleback. But I think that is the million dollar question. Are we trying to go to the superbowl next year?

Bingo. I dont get this McMohan fascination. That guy was horrible each time I saw him. He is more like Vick without the arm strength or speed.
He runs around makes some plays, but accuracy is highly doubtly and so is his decision making. And Kitna looked bad this past week.

We've had enough garbage of our own at QB the last few years, lets not go and get someone elses at this point.

I am sorry but none of the QB's mentioned sends a shiver up my spine waiting for the offseason so we can jump at the chance and sign them. My vote is for Hasselback or Bledsoe.

Kitna has had a very up and down 8 years in the league.
He has had 2 very good years in 99 and 03. He has had 2 above average years in 00 and 02 and a pretty bad year on 01.
On the whole he is an average to above average QB. We could do worse, if the thought is to build a solid D, running game and ST and have a guy who can win you a occassional game and not lose many. For not a ton of money

Actually, that was exactly the point I was trying to get at.
I simply through some QB names out there.
My point is if we can get a QB at least as good as QC, and there must be several out there (you choose your favorite candidate), with a better running game than last year, and if we can re-build our defense, can't we get to a winning record WHILE we groom Henson (or whoever we are going to groom) for the longer-run?
Is Kitna at least comparable to QC? I'd guess so.
