First reason-VT has a good chance of being the starting QB. This hinders the development of DH and TR. I, like many others would be happy if he was tutoring any young QB we might pick up.
Second reason-Any of the Cowboys' big targets in FA will most likely be franchised, for example Drew Brees, Plaxico Burress or John Abraham. But we still might go after some bargain guys like a Will Demps. Kendrell Bell, or a Marques Tuiasosopo.
3rd reason-Keeping Zimmer. Last year we were Number One in yards given up. Mario Edwards, Woodson and Ekuban were the reasons why we were that good last year and not this year. We strayed away from blitzing after we signed the new Ekubust-Dat Dude. Drafting a CB and signing a true FS would greatly improve our secondary and Run D. Roy would play close to the LOS and be our 4th linebacker.
4th reason-BP will stay with his players like VT and Torrin Tucker guys who have proved that they should not be starting. Why dont we play Rogers at RT or even Vollers. Move Richie back to H-Back and sign a true FB. Cut Eddie, Wiley and Tucker.
Reasons for improvement-Young and numerous Stars- Julius and Witten along with Al Johnson, LA and Flozell are pretty good for their postions and Glenn will be back next year. On Defense we have Ellis who is steady, Glover who seems to have started declining and Carson who is an ok run stuffer. Ngyuen, Bradie, Dex are solid LB's Newman and Roy are young and would fit better in a different system with less man to man Coverage
And dont forget BP is our coach...
