Cowboys put LB Singleton on IR

December 23, 2004

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- The Dallas Cowboys put starting strong side linebacker Al Singleton on injured reserve Thursday because of an injury in his midsection that's kept him out the past 1 1/2 games.

Coach Bill Parcells described the problem as being in Singleton's groin and abdomen. Regardless of whether time or surgery is needed, there's not enough time left this season for him to get back onto the field.

Scott Shanle made his first NFL start in Singleton's place last weekend. He's expected to do so again Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

The Cowboys did not immediately replace Singleton on the roster.

Then what's the point of putting someone in IR for the last 2 games if you don't already have someone to immediately replace them with? :banghead:

I thought Singleton was a LB on Tampa Bay?

When did we sign him?

If you noticed -

Started last game and made 5-6 tackles and was part of the reason our D was not ransacked by Philly O as in in first game.

He's a 245/250 pound backer with insticts. Bruschi, Vrabel? Hello?

Hopefully the next step will be to place him on the waiver wire.

Hopefully the next step will be to place him on the waiver wire.I think they had to pass him through waivers to get him on IR. BP mentioned that what was keeping them from already doing it last week. I'm not sure, but it sounds like you have to expose the player to waivers after a certain date to keep teams from trying to stash players on IR and pick up practice squad guys.

Maybe that is the reason he waited till after the Philly game.

He wanted to see what Shanle(sp?) would do with the start and how he would play and then practice the following week. And if this is the case we must assume Shanle passed this test and therefore, he makes Singleton less important. Not that with as little as he did he could have THAT much importance to begin with this season. </conspiracy threory>

It's nice to see one of our young guys playing and doing well. To bad we didn't put him in there sooner, but hindsight is 20/20, and we must play those that give us the best chance to win. :insane:

I'm, in a sense, glad this happened.

Singleton just doesn't do anything out there . . .

He goes almost completely unnoticed.

And I don't think thats a good thing for a linebacker . . .

Lets see what some young guys can do . . .

Bummer for him, but it's an opporitunity to see Shanle and I guess Thorton more.

I was watching Cowboys Weekly one Saturday and they had Singleton miked-up for one game. Let's just say it was like watching paint dry.

How quickly fans forget its the scheme that puts players in a position to win...

Zimmy goes & Doomsday returns, its as simple as that...

Heck, maybe we even get a DC who has a clue that EVERY OTHER NFL team uses a FREAKIN FS without tiny lbers!

Go NOW zimmy WUSS!

Bring someone up from the practice squad to get some playing time? Other than that I can't think of much reason.

Or maybe he raids someone else's PS just before the regular season ends?

Isn't that how we got Shanle in the first place? I thought he was with the Rams, or the Rams had to release him and wanted to put Shanle on their PS, but we beat the Rams to it.
