View Full Version : If we lose on sunday...
I will be just as happy as if we won. Losing will put us in a better position to get DJ, who IMO is the most talented player in the draft. Please post wether you owuld be happy or sad pending on the outcome of the game.

I'd prefer to win.
But, I won't be too down if we lose. Not like after the loss to NO.
I'm already thinking about next year . . . .

Do we really need to take a LB in the first? We have much bigger needs at other positions. I want to win. I wouldn't mind losing as much if it was to a team other than the Redskins.

Not recently.
EDIT:DJ is the best linebacking prospect since lavar. And coming from someone who has seen DJ all year, I think he is better. Lavar is a little bigger and faster, but he lacks the instincts and big play ability DJ has.

If we lose on sunday...
Vinny will still start the next game. I mean we don't want to give the rest of the team a signal that we're giving up on the season after all.

I want us to win, it is the Redskins, so we need to keep showing them who their daddy :)
I only time I ever wanted them to lose was near the end of the 88 season, and also the only time I wanted the Packers to win. Because then we ended up with the #1 pick, because we then could get Troy Aikman.
Well, with where we will end up this year, I don't think 1 or 2 positions in the draft will matter that much with all the holes we have. Getting DJ in the 12 to 17 position would be great. We need to win and finish the season on a positive note, even though I believe winning moral victory's do not carry over to the following year too much.

Geez people.....if drafting high were the cure all, the Bengals and Cardinals would be ALOT better than they are right now.
I hope we win out.
Losing for draft position........

this is probably the first time in history i could stomach losing the foreskins. :skins:
I don't want to but I'll gladly take the better draft position.
We're currently at 9th. If we lose we're going to move up at least two spots to 7th and probably 6th if some other teams win. If we can get Tennessee to beat Denver, we'd jump them.
PS, I'll gladly take MW or DJ if we can get one of them

If we are winning or losing with Henson or Romo then I am fine.
If we are losing with Vinny then I am okay.
If we are winning with Vinny then I am pissed because we get a lower draft pick and it will encourage BP/JJ/VT to give it a go again next season.

At this point in time and in the midst of frying all my fish i really dont care if we win or lose. Naturally i will be rooting for them to win but if they lose then so be it. Just another disappoint in a long line this year and i am sure there are many more to come.

I couldn't agree more.
I will never, and I mean never, hope that we lose to the Redskins!!
Or the Giants for that matter.
I wish everyone that wants to lose for draft position would just think where Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice were drafted.

I hate losing.
Period.
Yeah, I can logically understand how losing might bring about a higher draft pick and all, but still.
It just stinks to lose. It ruins my day, and takes a few more to get over.
I hope we put it on Washington and don't let up.

I've never been one to want to lose for a higher draft pick, but I feel like it's inevitable anyway with Vinny starting. I just have a feeling the team feels like we do and know that they're not going anywhere with him.
But that is the one bright spot to losing these last games... At one point we thought we were going to be way out of a top-10 pick, and now we're headed back towards a top-5. Look at it this way, if we lose and go from picking 12 to picking 6, we could trade down to where we would have been, and add an extra second rounder... What if we added four good players in the first two rounds instead of three? That extra player could help. Or, what if we had the option of taking Mike Williams or Rodrique Wright or Ahmad Brooks or Derrick Johnson, when those players would have gone right before we picked?
Again, I won't root for us to lose, no way... But I think we're going to. And as long as we lose because of Vinny or Richie Anderson or Leo Carson, I can live with it. They're all going to be replaced anyway. Really, I could stand a game like last week, where we play them very close and, mainly, our young players like Roy and Newman and Julius and the guys who will be here for years play well.

I just don't get this "pulling for my team to lose" thing. Don't get it, never will. I couldn't care less if it improves your draft position--you play to win.
To those extremers watching this thread bashing us---
This is the perfect of example of the difference between us. We as cowboy fans expect the greatest, and will sacrifice anything to win a superbowl. You guys simply want bragging rights(like winning 2 out of 15 is anything to brag about.) Losing this game will let us get an impact player in the draft, furthering our detination to a superbowl.

lmao at skins trying to bash us as "bandwagon fans". No silly skin fans, we just have a we bit higher standard than you and don't feel like sacrificing a chance at real contention for a 7-9 record at best. I understand how you feel though, with all the crappiness surrounding your team.

Maybe if someone that thinks this way could guarantee that by drafting higher that we get a better player or players, I might be inclined to think this way.
Unfortunately, history shows that it just doesn't matter where you draft. It's a crap shoot and there really is no arguement. For every franchise player taken in the top 5 there are at least that many average or below average players taken.
I'm just glad that we didn't draft higher in 1990. Who knows what our draft board looked like. Just look at some of the studs we could have ended up with.
1 Indianapolis - George, Jeff QB Illinois
2 N.Y. Jets - Thomas, Blair RB Penn State
3 Seattle - Kennedy, Cortez DT Miami
4 Tampa Bay - McCants, Keith DE Alabama
5 San Diego - Seau, Junior OLB Southern California
6 Chicago - Carrier, Mark FS Southern California
7 Detroit - Ware, Andre QB Houston
8 New England - Singleton, Chris ILB Arizona
8* N.Y. Jets - Moore, Rob WR Syracuse
9 Miami - Webb, Richmond T Texas A&M
10 New England - Agnew, Ray DT North Carolina State
11 L.A. Raiders - Smith, Anthony DE Arizona
12 Cincinnati - Francis, James LB Baylor
13 Kansas City - Snow, Percy ILB Michigan State
14 New Orleans - Turnbull, Renaldo OLB West Virginia
15 Houston - Lathon, Lamar OLB Houston

17 Dallas - Smith, Emmitt RB Florida

Man,that makes me feel old... to think that some of those guys went on to have pretty decent careers and then retired... like Kennedy, Carrier, and Agnew. But out of all those guys only Smith & Seau are still playing... Draft position means nothing anymore, just as someone else said, look at Cincy and Arizona... they should be working on at least a few division championships between them...

The '90 draft was one of the worst in recent memory. Seau had a great career. Webb was solid. Smith was the one.
JJ and JJ always said they wanted to take Francis but he went too early. They ended up trading up for Emmitt. The rest is history.
As for losing games to gain draft position, think of it as more of the silver lining in the cloud. We'd rather win the game, but even if we don't, we at least gain something. Kind of like the consolation prize in any game show.

How close Emmitt was to being a Falcon... imagine that... Atlanta was going to take him a few picks later... that was the only reason Dallas swapped with Pittsburgh. Oh, how JJ was hooked on James Francis and had to "settle" for Emmitt...
