If the Chargers decide to keep Drew Brees - We need to make every effort in trading for Philip Rivers. Yes, that means using one of our number 1 draft picks as trade bait.I consider him much better QB than anyone coming out of next years draft.

If the Chargers let Drew walk - then we sign him. We have the money
it's time we use it for the most important position on the field.

We have to resolved the QB position - before we do anything else new season.

Believe me, If BP really wants either QB -Jerry will push hard for it to happen.
At this point, all we can do is speculate. We will see.

We don't know about Henson and you want to part with BOTH firsts, which is what it would take, plus a big cap hit to get Rivers who has not played a snap in the NFL yet.

Brees will cost a first plus another pick and 7 or 8 million in cap.

Let's see Dallas can get 2 players in the draft plus another 2 in free agency, or Rivers who is just as unproven as Henson or Romo...BRILLIANT move.

Believe you? The man passed on Byron Leftwich for Terrence Newman. I don't think anyone here has the inside scoop on what Bill is trying to pursue.

Why in the world would the Chargers be willing to take a 14M cap hit when Franchising Brees would only cost them 8M or less?

Brees is a FA, he will not cost nothing but money. Scared money is why we are playing for next year. Had we spent money during past FA's we might have a team of playmakers.

All I know is, we are not smart enough to draft good players - so we need to find them from other teams.

The Cowboys have made some solid draft picks that havent worked out for their team. Happens to all teams.

Look at Julius Jones for an example. This board was in an outrage for at least 24 hours, and as time has passed on Jones has earned some respect.

IMO, the FAs have been more of an issue.

Vinny, George, need I go on..?

Taking either of the Chargers QBs is a big risk.

Is Brees just having that fluke season, that Christian Okoye had years ago?
Is Rivers the next Manning or the next Leaf ?

Taking on Brees with a new big contract is a risk that the Cowboys may or may not want to take.

Taking on Rivers not having to worry about the Guaranteed money would be nice, but again I ask .....

Why would the Chargers be willing to do that if they are not sure ?

They are in a great situation IMO, they can re-sign Brees at a cap friendly contract OR make him the Franchise player. And because Rivers has such a lengthy contract with many incentives that he will need to be on the field to accomplish, that he will be relatively cheap next year as well. Plus they have as much cap room as the Cowboys.

Except they are going to win the division and dont have as many needs.

I am sorry but Rivers who has yet to play a snap yet is still unproven and to use 2 draft picks as bait is ludicrous. We need much more than a starting QB to cure the ills for this team. We better have a good FA signing period plus a great draft.

Brees will get tagged and will cost at least 1 first rd pick.

Yep I also agree BZ...No way were going to start over with ANOTHER QB with no experence when we have that already...Lets develop what we have & build the team around him...

Yeah let's spend a first round pick on another unproven qb for BP to not play.

And for those of you who are still talking about passing on Leftwich you would be the first to complain about not having any cb's because we picked a qb.

I don't think we even talk to San Diego or any of their players in the offseason. No way SD lets Brees walk after the year he's had and with an unproven guy waiting in the wings. If somehow did decide to let Brees go, it'll be after a franchise tag and require a first round pick compensation. A price I'm not willing to pay when we've already spent this year's 3rd rounder on a guy with far more talent than Brees.

Hasselback is a far more likely option IMO.

I do think we need to develop what we have, michael irvin said it best about Brees "in a contract year, my son throws a slant rout better than he does", our main concern should get players in here who can tackle, we can forget about Big Baby, he will be franchised, Matt Millen is waiting for the Feb 1 date where he can do that, i dont think there is a D linemen in the first round that is worthy of wasting a early 1 on, i would be pleased with D.J. or Amhad Brooks and a Mike Williams, or Braylon Edwards, even though im not fond of Big 10 receivers, bottom line we need defesive playmakers, our linebackers cannot tackle in the open field, free agency i think E. Hartwell and Chris Hope are likely, but im itching for a Carlos Rogers or A Ronnie Brown with that 2nd 1st rounder...............

You guys are right we will not get Drew Brees, but will get Drew Bledsoe. What was I thinking Brees is not a BP past player. Welcome to Big D Mr. Bledsoe.
