I am disappointed the Cowboys arent Superbowl contenders this year, but I do take some solace in the fact that I believe that this years Cowboys team is better than last years team. That's right we are better than we were last year.
I think our running game has a lot more potential than we had with Hambone. George needs to go, but Julius looks like a serviceable back. The offensive line is better than it was last year, but it looks like we are going to have to fix our right tackle position.
Our receivers are better than average, and tight end looks solid. Our running game will be even better when Campbell returns. Our defense was shaky early, and still is but it appears we are getting better. Our young db's are getting better with experience.
Everyone will point to the fact that our QB position is no more settled than it was last year, and they would be right. It is possible Henson may be a future star, but last year he wasnt even on the roster.
Another fact that makes us better is that capwise we are in excellent shape, and some of our weak links are closer than ever to the axe.
I'm not satisfied where we are, but I do belive we are a better team.

lmao...there's no way this is a better team than last year, though it's supposed to be.
The only player I've seen added that is better than what we had is Julius Jones...that's an upgrade, but we're worse at QB for sure.
And on defense, we're much worse, or have been all season.

We were 10-6 last year. Carter wasnt a good QB but he still had this team go 10-6. At best we will be 7-9 this year. That is not better. Yeah we have JJ but we got ridda AB at WR and Quincy Morgan is a joke compared to AB.
We have some ancient completely wastin time for either Henson or Romo to learn and be more ready for next year. This was a total waste of a season.

I just dont understand the mentality some Cowboys "fans" have. ( I use the term fan loosely). You are entitled to your opinion, I just dont understand people who are quitters.

What I don't understand is the mentality of someone who questions whether or not others are fans just because those others aren't stupid enough to believe that this year's team is better than last years.

Why is anyone a quitter for disagreeing with you on whether this team is better than last year's team, a rather silly notion that cannot be backed up with any facts? or did I miss part of the conversation?

What flavor is that Kool-aid?
No, I believe BP when he said "You are what you are."
Not, "We may be a better team, but it may not show in the record."

I'd say the defense has taken a big step back overall, and I really don't know why.
The offense is probably a little bit better than last year. Testaverde and CArter are about even, maybe a slight edge to Testaverde. I actually think if this years offense had last years defense, we would be at least 10-6. But, if pigs had wings........

Dooms I agree with you. I think Bill will be happy enough with Jones at RB and cut lose our old guy RBs. I think he pretty much has a team of his choosing that understands what he expects. While we still have some gaping holes, and when do we not, we will most likely go for quality this year instead of quantity in the next draft. TYTYTYTYTY :banghead:
I had hoped we would do better record wise but I think Bill laid down and engraved the firts rule of Parcells; Thou shalt do whatever gives you the best chance to win. That may not be the fans choice, the owners choice or even my choice but now that he's here it will be Bill's choice. Whatever else I might say I have to admit Bill makes better decisions than I do.
Witten is better.
Roy is better.
Newman is better.
Ellis is better.
Glover is better.
Dat is better.
KJ is not as bad as I had thought.
I have faith the team will take two steps next year. Even with one game to go with the Gints I feel better already. (%

We won 10 games and made the playoffs. Physically stayed with the Pats on the road in a bad spot.
This is a 6-9 team - nowhere as good a team as last years.

I am all for winning, and I hope you are right about the draft picks next year. I also agree with you about Witten, Ellis, and Glover, but for most of the season Roy Williams and Terrence Newman have not been much of an impact and have at times been a liability. Keyshawn Johnson has been a very nice surprise. I thought he would have a much less impact. The dude is tough. Out there playing with a jacked up knee when there is nothing to play for. I respect that a lot. He also catches a lot of the very tough catches and pays a large price for them as well. I'll take him over Joey Galloway anyday.
I think Julius Jones will be very good in the future, but we have to get the guy some blocking on the right side. Gurode is just horrible. I'm glad the guy works and tries very hard, but he just sucks. Maybe next year they will be moving Flozell to the right side and Rogers to the left side, but that is scary. If he can't cut it on the right side how is he going to do going up against every teams stud on the left side? The left side of the line needs to pick it up as well. Larry Allen has been better this year than he has in the last couple of years, but Adams has definitely had a setback. I thought maybe he was getting "it" after last year, maybe not.
You are right. Eddie has got to go. I hope they can bring someone in to help Julius out. It pained me to see George come in the game and try to get back to the line of scrimmage.
Our success next year will come down to the QB position, and whatever they do to fix the defense. It needs a ton of work. That has easily been the biggest disappointment this year. Some of that is probably due to Woody's injury, but you can't lay all of the blame there.

Offensively, here's 2003 v 2004...
QB - Carter v Vinny
WR - Joey G v Key
WR - AB v Quincy
RB - Shatbrick v JJ
RB2 - Lee v Eddie G [PUSH]
Basically, we have a better offense, but that's keyed mainly by having added a more productive wideout to the mix, as opposed to having a group of guys with big-play potential, and by the maturation - somewhat forced - of Jason Witten. Given that JJ has hardly played this season, thanks to injury, we can't say this has been a better year for our backfield than 2003.
Defensively, we've barely changed personnel...
CB - Mario v Frenchie
SS - Woody v Dixon
DL - Blade & co v Wiley & co
One question: where's Bradie James? Was this not meant to be his year? Is he still unable to lift a Kleenex? Despite just losing two or three people from last year's D, this unit took a big step backwards. There was less rotation on the DL, the young LB's did not step up, the backfield lacked leadership and direction. By the way, where's Keith Davis?
On special teams, I See Dead People had a miserable year that should see him getting some stiff comp in the offseason. McBriar was a wonderful surprise. Randal Williams demonstrated that he does indeed suck. Crayton has some pop in his run-back.
In total, Team 2004 benefitted from Witten's added experience offensively, but defensively, they suffered from Williams' and Newman's junior and sophomore slumps, respectively, plus a change in philosophy and personnel.
