I realize you all are mad at the world that we won because that supposedly hurt our draft pick . . .
But lets not forget that this team botches up the draft whether we draft in the top 10 or the bottom 10.
Greg Ellis for Randy Moss proves that . . .
We have what could be the worst scouting department in the league . . .
Even if we did have a high pick . . . we'd most likely trade down for additional picks so we could take players that wouldn't pan out (Rogers, Ross, Dixon etc)
So enjoy the win and . . .

with two first round picks, I don't see how losing is going to help our draft picks that much anyway.
Two first round picks can get you two good players or, in a trade, net you one great one.
Either way, I think we're going to be in good position in the draft, so it's just dumb to want the team to lose

i'm getting kinda tired of people dogging ellis over moss. don't know if you have realized this yet. ellis is a cowboy and rates my love. moss is a viking and rates my disdain. years have passed. when will you come to grips with the facts?

you're actually probably correct. Of course for all the Shante Carvers there is a Roy Williams and Terrence Newman.
Hard to be upset about beating the foreskins but it'd be easier not be miffed had we beaten them with a qb not named Testaverde.

I've come to grips with it fine. But Randy Moss was the right pick to make and this team admittedly screwed the pooch on that one. I do have genuine respect for Greg Ellis, but it's pretty evident they didn't handle that one well.

I'm a huge Ellis fan . . . he's one of my favorite Cowboys . . . and I'm certainly glad he signed that extension to make him a Cowboy for his career.
That said . . . anyone with half a brain knows Randy Moss was the right pick.
We messed that up.

hmmm think of one or two more wins the season before we drafted Troy Aikman....2nd pick Tony Mandarich (collosal BUST) to Gay Bay.

Can we allow this draft class to take shape before we worry too much about it? We have little idea as to the depth or quality of this class. Things don't even begin to pan out for another couple of months.

Amazing to think what the San Diego Chargers were thinking after being the worst team in the league last year. Talk about nothing - and I mean nothing - to look forward to.

And Minnesota has won how many Super Bowls with Moss? No, we haven't won any either, but since Moss is basically the poster child for our draft failuers of the past 10 years to many people, put it in context.
One drafted player rarely, if ever, makes or breaks a team. Manning is a great QB, but for every game he's won in the regular season, he still hasn't won or even made a title game. Name a receiver that was drafted that was the sole reason a team won a title. You'd be hard pressed to name any, and that includes Jerry Rice.
For every 1st round WR success there are around 5 first round failures, and despite his talent Moss lived up to his miscreant billing, which on top of some of the internal controversies we had at the time, was something we didn't need regardless of the player.

That's a good point, however, BRees had experience in their system prior to this year.
We are faced with backups who evidently wear dresses. ;)

Point being, you can't tell squat about what will happen one year to the next in this league. Teams do it all sorts of ways - ways you can't see coming. And it happens every year too. With better QB play, better defensive play, etc.
You name it.

It's not the one player. It's the collection of mistakes this franchise tends to make on draft day. Moss just happens to be the most prominent and representative of Dallas' draft day ineptitude.
And he would have been the right pick. There is little arguing that.

I know two years ago there were many Cowboy fans hoping we'd lose our last game at Washington so we'd get a higher draft pick. This was in spite of the fact we had a 10 game winning streak over the Redskins. It was Campo's last game and we were only 5-10 so a win or lose was really no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it was against the Redskins and I wanted to win.
I remember taking alot of flack from many because I couldn't see the "big picture. Guess what? We lost 20-14, ending our win streak and all it did was move us up 2-3 positions and we took Newman. If we had won we still would've been in position to take Leftwich, Kevin Williams or Terrell Suggs.
It's one thing for draft position to be a silver lining to a loss...But I will never cheer for the Cowboys to lose just to enhance our draft choice.
