View Full Version : Are we settled on special teams
We all know how Parcells puts emphasis on special teams and how he made it a big part of his rebuilding efforts in year one and two. Other than upgrading Cundiff are we set at special teams? It can be argued that continuity makes special teams units better. Should we keep the players and let them develop or keep churning and upgrading the special teams roster?

Frazier is a good punt returner. Hopefully he improves. We'll still try to find that homerun threat at PR.

The coverage units have been pretty decent for the most part.
I say we just cut the crap and sign a decent K in FA - we can save money by cutting Jeff Robinson's overpaid arse and come out even. It seems as though BP was pretty pissed with Cundiff after the Eagles game so there is a decent chance a move is made here.
McBriar is okay for a rookie at P.
Lee is an okay KR. I'm less impressed with Copper and Reeves.
PR still not good enough. I'm terrified every time Frazier goes back to return a punt. This position needs to be upgraded. Not sure why Crayton hasn't gotten more of an opportunity.

Yes and no.
We have got a great SP coach and a K coach that can take 1 out of 10 of us and get us into training camp. But when BP talks about curning the roster he's usually talking about a player who can play O or D in a pinch but had better be able to play special teams.
What our special teams looks like won't be settled until the final cuts of training camp. Just like every year there will be someone you never heard of making plays for the Cowboys in 2005.

Oh that crazy Lance Frazier!!!
How dare he be 4th in the NFC and 10th in the entire NFL in PR average. At one point, about 3 weeks ago he was 4th-5th in the entire league but he didn't have enough attempts to qualify.
He's not a homerun threat yet, but it could come with time, as he gets more comfortable. I anticipate him becoming a better PR as he plays less CB next year. Maybe just our NCB. Keep him fresher and more focused on returning punts.

The thing I am worried about isn't his return ability, but rather the ball popping out. I think he's put two on the carpet so far.

I'd rather see W. Peoples (OK) than Frazier returning punts.
