well actually the last thing I wanted to see was Vinny starting this week...

everyone knew it was pretty much close to being over, or over for Woodson weeks ago...he isnt 25 anymore...great player, but when you have this type of injury at his current age you usually dont come back 100%

Woody should be proud of all he accomplished. It is somewhat sad but it gives the NFL an opportunity to really celebrate the career of a class act on and off the field. Woody was overshadowed throughout his career by Aikman, Irvin, Smith, Haley, Novacek, Jerry Jones, Jimmy Johnson, Deion and in recent years by Bill Parcels and Roy Williams. Today is a day for fans of other teams to read about his 5 Pro Bowl selections, 3 rings, his all-time leading tackler stats and appreciate how special a person and player Woody was for the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL as a whole.

Darren Woodson,
Best of luck in all your future endeavors and thank you.

Not able to watch it from the job, but is it as emotional as Aikman and Irvin's? Man, I hate missing this PC.

Yeah, it is emotional. Woody is passing out several thank yous to the players and coaches, etc.

Going to miss that guy... :(

Woody is holding up well and is composing himself about as well as you would expect from such a class individual. I expected a breakdown or two, but not yet.

Damn, I am going to miss Woodson about as much as any departing Cowboy. So many great memories of that guy. God bless him.

He almost lost it when he was talking about his wife.

We're fortunate we've had some great players begin and end their careers here in this day of free agency. I wish Emmitt would have retired a Cowboy.

Woody is and will be missed.

Jerry said at the end of the PC that Woody was classified as “Reserve Retired” and that means the Cowboys retain his rights “just in case…”. Jerry kind of laughed and left it at that.

The saying (or cliche) of never knowing what you have until it's gone rings true today.

I grew up during Woodson's career and took for granted that he would be playing forever just like Troy and Michael and soon with Emmitt, but the curtainfalls on one of the most dedicated, professional, dominating, underrated careers of all-time in the NFL. Darren Woodson optimized what it is to be a Dallas Cowboy and it's players like him that have the charisma to make Dallas..."America's Team".

When there was the Dallas "White House", the Irvin debacle, the Switzer/Aikman tirades, the Gailey/Campo eras, the glory days of the early 90s...all the good and bad times...there was always one constant player that kept his chin up...that was Darren Woodson.

We'll miss ya, Woody. Sure, we'll miss the ground-shaking hits you used to make and the big plays we all were accustomed to, but more importantly, we'll miss that dedication, that professionalism, that leadership, and that charisma that hovered in the defensive backfield emblazoned with #28.

Don't go too far Woody...it'd be nice to see you in the booth with Troy and Moose.

I miss Troy. I miss Moose as well.

I think I might miss Darren most of all - of all the players on those great SB teams of the 1990's. He was one of the really good ones - like those two mentioned above.

Woody apitomizes class. At the same time, he was a friggin warrior. This is to take nothing away from other retirees, but DW might be my favorite of that entire cast. I didn't really realize that until recently.

Listening to that PC, the man obviously will bleed silver and blue for the rest of his days. He will leave this world a Dallas Cowboy. And I don't recall any single player being as proud to don our colors or the helmet.

I will forever smile from ear to ear when I think about Darren Woodson's time as a Cowboy. He never made a Cowboy fan feel small or ashamed of the fact that he was a prominent figure of this storied franchise.

I pray that Woody, in some capacity, remains a part of this team. He's an asset of the highest order and I'm hoping the Joneses have already considered that much.

I wish nothing but good things to Darren Woodson and his family. Damnit, I can't believe this day has come. It just came too soon for me.

Well, what can one say? Woody was my favorite Cowboy and really, the last link, IMO, to the old Cowboys. Allan is still here, of course, but he didn't come till 94. The writting has been on the wall for some time now.

On the positive side, you would think that this has to force Dallas to get a real FS and finally move Roy to his natural position. Does anybody know how this impacts our Cap?

Well stated.
Woodson was the captain of the defense for so many years. The loss of the brains of the defensive backfield was painfully obvious this year.

We've had some real "characters" on the team over the years. Fans of lesser organizations always liked to point those guys out whenever the Cowboys were mentioned.

But Darren Woodson was always the best "active" representative of what it meant to be a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

Like Aikman, Rayfield Wright, Bob Lilly, Mel Renfro, Roger Staubach and Tom Landry, to name a few, Darren Woodson exemplified tough, hard-nosed excellence on the football field. A quiet, consistent, noble athlete who let his actions on and off the field do all the talking.

Would love to see Woodson back as a secondary coach. He would also make a top notch announcer. I have a hunch he will be successful at whatever he decides to do.

The funniest part of the whole PC was when he was thanking "Coach Campo," talking about how when he (Woodson) came in as a rookie, Campo used to ride him pretty hard that 1st year.

He said, "he'd cuss me everyday when I'd mess up, he'd even cuss my momma, but don't worry momma, I defended ya!" Got a big laugh from the room.

I hope tributes to him don't forget how good he was on Special Teams for a lot of years. The man never wanted to leave the field. Truly a great example of the character of the Championship teams.

I honestly believe his absence this year was the biggest factor in the Defensive struggles.

Damn, missed the PC today.

Now only Larry Allen remains as far as one of my All-Time Favorites (Nate Newton, Mel Renfro, Everson Walls, Randy White and now Darren Woodson).

It is only a matter of time before he gets into the Ring of Honor, probably right after the Tripplets and Possibly after Larry Allen....
