Not sure if I missed the discussion, but DC.com was reporting yesterday that Anderson's pinched nerve in his neck could be similar to the injury that forced Moose to retire. The article went on to say that if so, Anderson has a career decision to make.

Anderson has lost much of his popularity among fans because of his status as a "Parcells guy," but he has been a pretty productive player when used correctly since joining this team. It'd be a shame to lose yet another player because of a career-ending injury.

well, if Richie is done, at least the cowboys aren't losing a player in his prime.
Parcells spoke highly of Polite today in his press conference. I think he will get some plays.

The backfield crop will look a lot different next year.
Eddie - done
Richie - let us assume he is done
Rashard Lee - done (not smart enough?)

I could'nt agree more, Anderson has played very well when not hurt.

Probably wouldn't be back in Dallas if he did decide to play another year.

Time for some Bush !!!

Myself I have been very happy with the play of Anderson and would love to see him return next year but it appears by this report that it could be the end.

I actually noticed it because when BP was talking about needs at RB, it sounded like the same roll he envisioned Richie would be playing. I really hate to see players end their career injured, because you know that's all they've known for the last 20-something years. Although I don't have that worry w/Woody and Richie, I get concerned because of all the horror stories about athletes after they've ended their careers.

I have never understood the hate some have for Anderson. It seems to me he has done all he was asked to do. Relief runner, change of pace back to some extent, leadership, receiving out of the backfield. He fumbled in the opener this year and all of sudden, he was crap to some.

Anderson has been a very versitile player for us. I wish him the best if he does retire.

I agree, I always though Anderson provided just what he was signed for...

I didn't like him as a blocking FB, but with the ball in his hands he usually was effective...

I think Polite will get alot of PT as well as many other players for some guys who won't be back next year...

George won't be back ether so lets get ready to "Roll with the changes"

I posted several weeks ago that the only RB on our 2005 roster who is on the team this year may be J Jones.

Anderson - Injury coupled with age is a bad cocktail

EG - Done

R. Lee - Big question mark, but probably just a guy at this stage

D. Barnes - Could easily be upgraded. And should be upgraded, IMO.

Of course, I didn't take into account L. Polite. We'll have to see.

But there is a good chance we'll be looking for several RBs in 2005.

Completely agree Woods.

The only back I think that has a shot to be back is Barnes.

I think all the rest are cut or retire.

I wouldn't mind seeing Najeh "Dookie Stick" Davenport signed as a free agent. He probably will be looking more for a place with less competition like Miami or Arizona. But I think we could offer him 85% of our snaps a when we have a FB in the package and 5-10 carries a game filling in for Jones. That might be enough to convince him to sign here.

I would love to sign The Defecator as well. He is a restricted free agent, but the word out of GB is that they think they may not be able to keep him. I believe he was originally a fourth round pick, so we will have to see what GB tenders him at. He would more than likely be better than anything else you could get in the fourth.

He has a bit of an injury history, but is a strong inside runner and can return kicks. I think he would be a great fit.

He's a RFA. The Packers RB situation is interesting. Tony Fisher, a underrated 3rd down back, and Davenport are both RFA's, and Green's contract ends after next year. The Packers are seriously contemplating tying up Davenport to a big contract to be their RB of the future and letting the soon-to-be 29 year old Green walk next year.

Mike Sherman low-balled both Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila and Na'il Diggs with qualifying offers as RFA's and paid the price. Diggs got an inflated contract from Detroit that Green Bay eventually matched. And Philadelphia was in heavy talks with Gbaja-Biamila, before the Packers gave him $37.3 million over seven years. I don't see Sherman offering Davenport anything less than the mid-level exception, which would cost the Cowboys a 1st round draft pick.

Actually Davenport was a seventh rounder, wasn't he? So the original tender price would be even cheaper.

Whoops, never mind, he was a 4th... Who was I thinking of there?

Anyway, he'd be the perfect big back here... Just watch that laundry basket when you're dealing with the socks and jocks, Jerry.

CL, I think you can tender a player to be much higher than their original draft slot. I think the highest tender is the equivalent of a 1st and 3rd round pick.

I started to dislike him once Parcells benched Julius and put Anderson in during the NO game.

Sorry to hear about Richie's possible carrerr ending injury, but for me the fewer "Bills Guys" we have the better.

I notice some of you have forgotten the carries Richie takes from regular rbs (JJ), the fumbles he has committed and the Steelers fumble he caused Bill's other guy Vinny to have.

Yes, I believe that is more than likely what will happen. A first round tender is only $1.38 million and will usually turn most teams off. I would hesitate to offer up a first rounder for Davenport.

However, it is a situation that bears watching.

Other than J. Jones, Anderson is the only other RB that I thought would be back for Dallas next year. IMO, he has done just what he was brought in to do.

I wouldn't call it "hate", but those fumbles were huge. You mentioned the one in the opener, what about the fumble in the playoff game last year? If Dallas scores a TD on that possession they may go on and win.

Losing the versatile Richie Anderson would hurt a little. He has been productive. But what never should have happened was the cutting of a true FB in Jamar Martin. Just think of the damage that Julius Jones could cause opposing defenses with Jamar blocking for him.

Losing Jamar was huge. Darian Barnes is not the answer at FB just because he can play special teams.

Richie Anderson's departure from this team would be welcomed IMO. I only hope the door doesn't hit his arse on the way out.

Richie Anderson cost this team at least 1 to 3 wins this year due to his untimely mistakes. Mistakes are common, but he seems to make them at the most crucial time in a game.

As far as I'm concerned, he could take Vinny, Wiley, and Eddie George out the door with him.
