For what its worth, Newy is on Randy Galloway's show and he says that according to his sources BP is going to a 3-4 and since Zimmer can't coach a 3-4 that he is going to be fired.

Who is "Newy" and how would he know?

http://images.radcity.net/5462/129581.jpgNewy Scruggs is known as the Newdawg. The gloss of the name came from his Omega Psi Phi Fraternity brothers at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The Newdawg has been working in the Dallas-Fort Worth market since April 16, 2000.
http://images.radcity.net/5462/674309.gifHe is currently the weeknight sports anchor at the top-rated late night news leader, KXAS-TV (NBC 5) (http://www.espn1033.com/goout.asp?u=http://www.nbc5i.com). You can catch him at 6 PM and 10 PM.

Plus, he co-hosts "Good Fellas (http://www.espn1033.com/showdj.asp?djid=11468)" with Brian Estridge on ESPN 103.3 FM. The show airs weekday mornings from 10 am-12 noon.

The sportscasting career of the Newdawg began in September of 1992 in Florence, South Carolina. While in his senior year at UNC-Pembroke, Newdawg was a Friday night high school football photographer for WBTW-TV. After the weekend sports anchor was fired, he got the job.

He stayed at the CBS affiliate until graduating college in the summer of 1993. That June, Scruggs went work at KVUE-TV in Austin. It was familiar ground, he lived outside the city in the late seventies at Fort Hood.

As a sports reporter for KVUE-TV, Scruggs was able to cover the Dallas Cowboys during their Super Bowl years under Jimmy Johnson and into Barry Switzer's first season.

Also during that Texas swing, the Newdawg created a radio show still in existence in Austin. "The Pressbox" with Newy Scruggs and Vic Lombardi helped turn KVET-AM from a news talk station to Central Texas' top all-sports radio station.

In December of 1994, it was off to Cleveland. WEWS-TV was the station. As a weekend sports anchor, the Newdawg hosted Cleveland's top rated weekend sports show, "Sports Sunday".

While the stay in C-Town was only 14 months, the Newdawg saw more sports news go down than most folks who lived in Northeast Ohio for 30 years.

The Indians went to their 1st World Series since 1954. Vinny Testaverde actually won a playoff game against Bill Parcells New England Patriots. And the Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore.

In January of 1997, Newdawg launched his Sunday night sports show, "Talking About Sports, with Newy Scruggs!" on KCOP TV where he was the Sports Director.

It was the only local weekly sports show that took phone calls from viewers.

Guests included L.A.'s finest Shaquille O'Neal, Jim Harrick, Junior Seau, Kevin Malone, Tex Winter, Paul Pierce, Darrell Russell, Darin Erstad, Curtis Conway, Fernando Vargas, James Worthy, Tim Brown, Steve Lavin, Eric Young, Michael Moorer, Jim Edmonds, Jim Rome, Miles Simon, Sugar Shane Mosely, and Andy Murray.

He was the 1998 and 1999 Associated Press "Best Sportscast" winner and KCOP's, UPN News at 10 PM, won "Best Newscast" in 1999.

After numerous stints filling in as a guest host on "The Jim Rome Show," XTRA Sports 1150 offered him the afternoon drive time spot. He co-hosted the sportsradio show, "The Dawgpound" until 2000.

Scruggs left Los Angeles for Big D in April of 2000.

Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, the Newdawg is an army kid. From Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to Savannah, Georgia, to Fort Hood, Texas, to Birmingham, Alabama, Newy Scruggs is a southern kid.

He is married and has one cute dog, Macy.

Wow.

Full name and occupation would have sufficed. :)

Thanks.

Newy is Newy Scruggs. The local NBC sportscaster here in DFW. He has his own show on the local ESPN radio station. He also hosts a show with Roy Williams. He said that his source, who is a player, told him that he doesn't expect Zim to be back next year.

He's like Rob Reiney - that investment dude that gives customers their money's worth on TV.

Very thorough!

The Newdawg also said that La'roi would be traded and that Larry Allen and Flozell are not necessarily safe.

I heard that too but I thought a player bet Newy a dollar that Zim *would* be back... And Newy said he hoped Zim was staying, but that he thought there was a good chance he would leave.

Did I hear it wrong?

Could be. Thats what you do this time of year. Speculate. If you guess right, you can crow. If you guess wrong, you fail to mention it ever again. Nothing will stir up the fan base and get them watching your show like BOLD PREDICTIONS.

I heard it the other way around. I'll admit that I was listening in my car on the road and was busy cutting a couple of people off so I could make my exit.

But isn't that what we do around here? Speculate? Just throwing more would on the fire. Besides, it's better than discussing Dwayne Goodrich and Larry Faceswell.

Oh, yeah. I agree totally. I am just saying that is what the media types love to do this time of year as well. They get ratings by having the big dramatic speculation. Not trying to knock on you or any of your posts or anything.

No offense taken. Maybe I'm just too excited by the prospect of Zim hitting the road. I'll curb my enthusiasm.

I am looking forward for some changes as well. I am totally undecided on Zimmer though. I think he does a good job with what he has, which isn't much. However, I think he plays it pretty safe to try to prevent the big play and as a result there aren't much for turnovers, sacks, etc. I think this all goes back to the year that the team gave up several 200 yard rushers and Zim altered the D to account for it (2000, I think, Zim's first year as D coordinator?).

The Newdawg also said that La'roi would be traded and that Larry Allen and Flozell are not necessarily safe.

I could see asking Allen to take a pay cut to what he could get on the open market, but I wouldn't cut him before trying to get him to reduce his salary (not just restructure).

This team has a ton of holes, I would hate to see 3 more added. I can see Glover being traded if you go to a 3-4, but why get rid of the left side of the OL when that is currently the only direction where you have success running?

Can he play the nose in a 3-4? Sign him up!

People keep saying Zimmer can't coach the 3-4. Why? Does he have some kind of disorder that prevents him from learning new things, or watching film, or asking questions? Are some people born 3-4 coaches while others are born 4-3 coaches, like being born left handed vs right handed?

If Parcells fires Zimmer, it will be due to Zimmer's job performance - work habits, communication skills, game planning, attitude, etc. A good coach can coach any scheme, any position, offense or defense. Parcells just has to answer for himself whether Zim is a good coach.

If he does fire Zim, a name to watch - Bob Sutton, LB Coach, NY Jets. Was hired the year Bill stayed on as advisor/GM for the Jets. Shares the West Point coaching background - Sutton was at Army from 83 to 91 as Defensive Coordinator and Head Coach from 92-99. Has been an OC and DC. Coached under Monte Kiffin at NC St too, among other stops at Michigan, Syracuse, and Illinois.
