Memory Question ?

I have an E machines T 3120 XP 2 - with 512M bytes of memory - I tried to up grade my memory - I tried a 1 GB stick in it - an it shut down the machine after 5-10 minutes on the internet - needless to say I was with out my computer all weekend - I was down to a black screen - some how I got my recovery disk to finally work

any ideas

What are the specs on the new memory? PC####?? I think your machine is PC3200 so you need to make sure your motherboard can handle the new ram.
