***, you think Albert Haynesworth is unmotivated now, wait till he hears this!:lmao2: Who would believe there is a 100 million dollar NT!?:lmao: And what about Andre Carter who blew chuncks at OLB for SF when they made the change, and said he didn't fit:laugh1:
Okay, now that I got that out my system, let's look at what this does to them
last year the front 7 was,
RDE- ACarter
DT- AHayensworth
DT- CGriffin
LDE- PDaniels
ROLB- RMcIntosh
MLB- LFletcher
LOLB- BOrakpo
Now I guess it will be,
DE- CGriffin
NT- AHayensworth
DE- PDaniels (37 years old FA, may retire)
ROLB- ACarter
RILB- RMcIntosh
LILB- LFletcher
LOLB- BOrakpo
With out a 3rd and a 6th round picks and glarring needs at QB and O-line, that leaves very few picks for their d-line, which needs an over haul

I expect it will be very difficult to field a competent 3-4 defense next year. We may try to do a hybrid with Carter playing the role of Suggs, but that doesn't seem very promising either. In any case I would welcome the move because teams are just handicapping themselves by sticking to a 4-3 scheme. It might take several years to find the right players, but I'd rather bite the bullet now when our offense is terrible than waste a good offense trying to make the switch three years from now.

why do you remain loyal to that garbage franchise? i mean since snyder has bought the team, the redskins have been more like the brown skids. honestly, if the boys had an owner like snyder, i think i would just bail until he sold the team. maybe if enough people joined me, we could get him to sell and go away.....then we could have an owner who cared about the fans. IMO, all the redskins fans should boycott the team until Snyder sells.

Yeah, I am boycotting Snyder. I'm giving up my season tickets. I'll still go by buying from scalpers, but I won't spend any $$ at the stadium. The thing is it's impossible to stop loving them after rooting for them so hard for so long.
Moving to a 3-4 would be, uh, surprising, to say the least.

He is going to the 3-4 because right now its once again fashionable. Either scheme will work if you have the coaching and the players. They are going to have to remake the front 7 since its NOT a good fit for the 3-4. Dumb.

Wonder if this will alter their draft plans.
I would think they are smart enough to trade down and gain some more picks to help out their O-Line and now possible switch to the 3-4.
But Shanny and yes Snyder may want their name QB in the first round and stay put.

I would guess they would do what some other teams have done, similar to the Cardinals and 49ers who gradually worked their way into it, but still ran a mix of three and four man fronts until they accumulated the right talent mix to make it work.
I doubt they go cold turkey to the 3-4 with what they have. It would be borderline defensive suicide.
First, I do not think Haslett is that great with the defense to do that right away. His defenses in New Orleans were straight 4-3. The only time to my knowledge he coordinated a pure 3-4 was with the Steelers.
Second, they do not have the pieces yet and will have to make due if they truly intend to rebuild the rest of the team via this upcoming draft. Orakpo will be great as an OLB in the defense. Andre Carter was so-so when SF tried him both up and down. Is Haynesworth a nose tackle? I might be wrong but he just seems to lack the drive and temperment. If he was whining large about not getting to rush the passer this past year, wait until he's asked to occupy gaps. My guess is Haslett, if he does go full bore, runs your standard 3-4 with the space-eating nose guard. That is not Haynesworth unless he gets an attitude adjustment and buys himself some stamina. I would have him at end before putting him over the center with that kind of responsibility.

And I respect you as a fan for that. Stick with them. That's what fans do.
As for the move...yikes. Going to take a couple years, at least, to get all the pieces to run a 3-4 properly and now with Haynesworth on the books for all that cash what to do with him? He's not going to be an effective NT in a 3-4, at all. He's too lazy.
Gonna need to rebuild the entire front 7 Orakpo is really the only good fit you have right now

Totally agree. I love Wade's 34 scheme more than any other, but we all know a 43 can be as good as anything if the players fit.
In fact, I'd be looking to run a 43 now that so many teams have jumped on the 34 bandwagon. It'll probably be easier to draft 43 players than ever.
This smells like Lil Danny wanting to copy the rest of the league.

I actually like their LBers. Orakpo will be better next season since he'll now do less coverege. Fletcher, even at 5-10, is still one of the NFLs best ILB. Rocky McIntosh imo will be fine at WILB, good cover guy, and good in run support.
Carter will be a problem. He'll be 31 at the start of the season, has played the OLB position and hated it. Don't be suprised to see him ask to be traded or released. Carter has 3 years remaining on his contract, and him and his agent will likely figure this move could potential kill his market value if he's released after this season and if he can hit the open market he can cash in one last time, since he's coming off an 11 sack season.
The real problem will be the d-line. If Haynesworth doesn't buy in, they're screwed.

Agreed.
The only thing about Fletcher is I do not know how he will adjust after playing in 4-3 systems where he was allowed to flow to the football. Inside linebacker in a 3-4 is not exactly the same as a 4-3 Mike with lots of latitude. He will get caught up in far more trash. He might have a year like Zach Thomas had in Miami prior to coming to Dallas but eventually the other shoe is going to fall. They have a lot of work to do to prepare that defense to play four linebackers consistently. They need at least three more to supplement what they already have and hope every incumbent adjusts quickly.

Thats going to be a slow rebuild for the fan base. I see Skinsmaniac is about as real as it gets and i applaud his undying love for his team, but at least he can talk with us and shed some light on this and how it goes, because it will be interesting to watch it build and the growing pains that goes with it.
Is it time for us to bail on the 3-4 and go back to a dominating 4-3 yet? Tho our defense has finally come into its own its hard to make that switch back, but i hate that every team is going to the 3-4 defense. Good thing only a few coordinators can really implement it.

Orakpo is the only front 7 guy they have that I like as a really good fit in a 3-4. Fletcher will play hard, and do pretty good, cause he's just a ball player but I don't think a 3-4 is the best suited defense for him. I could be totally wrong about that though.

You do have an owner like snyder. You saying jones isn't meddlesome? Exactly how much success has your boys had since 1996? You just won your first playoff game in 13 years. Congrats, but don't act like the skins are the only team in the NFCE with some dysfunction.

Comparing Snyder to Jerry Jones, frankly, is like comparing Jason Campbell to Peyton Manning on the off day Manning throws two or three picks.
At his absolute worst, Manning (Jones) might put up numbers as bad as Campbell (Snyder), but they're not in the same ballpark.
I'll give Snyder this: At this rate, he'll have soon hired as many head coaches as Jerry has won division titles.

Keep living in the past. The early 90's were quite nice, weren't they?

You brought up the 1 playoff win in 13 years... isn't that "the past?"
So... if you only want to deal with the present, then here is the present. Jerry Jones team went 11-5, won the NFCEast, and won a playoff game.
Snyder... his team went 4-12.
Jerry > Snyder.
So... its ok to bring up the past, so long as we only go to the not so abitrary 1996 season. Anything before is "too much in the past" then, right? I sincerely doubt you reply to this, but I suppose you may impressive me and answer for the hypocrisy.
