Bugel says it's "tough to walk away," but he's about to turn 70 and wants to spend time with his family. New Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said he tried to talk Bugel into staying.

Bugel coached the dominant Redskins offensive line that became known as the "Hogs" in the 1980s, during Joe Gibbs' first stint as head coach. Washington won two Super Bowls while Bugel was with the team.

Bugel later became a head coach with the Cardinals and Raiders. He returned to Washington in 2004 when Gibbs came out of retirement.

I also still think he is mourning over his daughters death. So I can imagine if he wanted to take the backseat. Good luck Joe!

I wish Buges nothing but the best... in his press conference, he talked about enjoying his retirement... IMO, he's earned that...

He was one heck of an offensive line coach and I respect him.

I guess DC is becoming the place where folks go to retire from when they're done there.

Yeah plus Suburban Maryland, has alot of golf courses, and places to relax in. Especially if you are much older.
