When Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson hired agent Drew Rosenhaus during the 2009 season, everyone knew it was coming.

And here it is.

Derrick Gunn of CSNPhilly.com reports that Rosenhaus plans to approach the team (http://www.csnphilly.com/pages/landing_09?Sources-Jackson-to-Ask-Eagles-for-New-De=1&blockID=170966&feedID=704) regarding a new contract for Jackson, who just completed his second NFL season.

For Eagles fans, the news surely brings back bad memories of 2005, when Rosenhaus tried on behalf of Terrell Owens to get the team to rip up a one-year-old deal.

So what happened? Next question (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41rdU-3fiMA).

But there's a difference. Jackson has become one of the best young wideouts in the game, and he's a dangerous return specialist. Also, he's working under the terms of a slotted second-round contract. Given the team's past willingness to lock up certain players to long-term deals early in their careers as a hedge against them becoming future stars (e.g., Shawn Andrews), the Eagles should be willing to do the same thing for a young player who already has become a star.

Then there's the reality that, once the salary cap goes away in March, plenty of guys still under contract will be looking for adjustments to contracts negotiated under the assumption that a spending limit always would be in place.

So, in other words, pay the man.

Didn't Dallas write the script on how to contain him?

You mean have McNabb overthrow him by 10 yards when he's wide open?

I wish owners would blackball Rosenhaus. He's a slimeball.

To me, this is Phase 2 of the Philly Implosion!:lmao:
Get ready, cause it's about to begin all over again!

Only let him get open twice per game and the odds of any QB hitting him aren't good.

But he has a contract. I don't see players giving up money when they have off seasons after getting a big contract why should the club be pressured in handing out a big contract when a player is still under a contract?

I remember

I have no problem seeing guys get paid big money I do however have problems with players when they are still more than a year away from their current contract expiring of wanting more. I don't see players giving money back after a bad season but as soon as they have a great year all to often they expect to get paid big.

I almost wish they had a pay for play system where you get paid based on what you did for the season, if you were a top 5 player at your position then for that season you are paid top 5 money if you had a cruddy year you paid much less. Never going to happen but what the heck I can dream

Would you agree that DeSean's play as increased attendance at the games?

I think the eagles were putting people in the stands before they drafted him.

I think the guy is a very good player and I don't have any issue with him making big money. I do think when he gets into the last year of his contract that they should begin re-negotiation of that contract

jterrell

If I am Philly I trade the guy now.

He has enormous value and there is simply no way I'd want to deal with both an agent who is the biggest "wittyexpletivehere" ever and a player who has always had a knock on him for being cocky and selfish.

Seriously, learn from T.O. and get value while it is still there. Philly would LOVE ot go back and trade T.O. a year before he went ape and Dallas would love to go back and not sign him for that final season.

He is a great threat but the guy is never going to be big or physical and he wants to paid before he even gets through his rookie contract which isn't a horrid one.

Philly STILL hasn't won anything, and now they have to deal with "T.O. Gate - The second coming"

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if he becomes a REAL problem. There's a reason he wasn't drafted higher guys: he's a little Arse.

How do you increase sold out???

The Eagles has been winning games for a decade, not exactly begging for fans or wins.

I like how 62 catches for 1150 and 9 TDs makes him 'one of the best young wideouts in the league.' This guy is getting so much ridiculous hype. The Eagles FO should show Rosenhaus that metrics breakdown that shows how almost every TD he scored this year was on a blown coverage or when he was covered by a LB, and then tell him to come back next year and see if he can put up some legit numbers.

I would not pay this guy #1 WR money....not even close.....but I sure hope the Eagles do.

.........they won't Oh Canada....they are a well run, TIGHT organization. They just don't overpay guys that: A) havent' earned it and B) aren't team players and C) don't know when to shut up.

I think he's a dangerous wide receiver, and the fact that he's a force to be reckoned with on ST is even more of a plus. Having said that, I think he's too small and injury prone to be given top flight WR money. Only give DSJ a contract extension with big money if a cap friendly deal can be worked out. Oh wait?? :- /
Vincent Jackson has more worth than Desean Jackson as a top tier WR IMO.

He is not even the best wr of the young wr Mclain is better IMO and has a higher selling

The Eagles will let him cry he has no leverage he is not good enough to warrant anything if he never played another snap for the Eagles the offense would still be the same maybe better because they quit trying to make a big play every time

You and I both know that "sold out" is not one definate number. Otherwise, no venue would ever break it's record crowd number after the first sell out. Also, it goes way beyond just sell outs; it goes to merchandise sales, exposure, endorsements, tv exposure, etc. When you have one of the most exciting players in the NFL on your team, you get a lot of press and a lot of attention, which = a lot of money because companines want to be around you and your team.

I've never known the Eagles to bend over backwards to please 1 player under the current regime.

It won't happen.

Jackson can hold out, and I'm not sure the front office would care.

Best outcome for us:

1. Bigtime deal gets worked out and that bony *** of his is broke in two next year going over the middle.

2. He sits out and becomes a major distraction to the franchise.

Worst outcome:

He shuts up and plays out his rookie deal. Makes multiple pro bowl appearances.

I hope they also include (if what I think is the case is true) that he piled up a lot of his "explosive" numbers against bottom tier teams.

I think Sydney Rice would argue that both Macklin and the "Explosive" Desean Jackson aren't all that after what Dallas' DBs did to them, and what Rice did to Dallas's DBs.

Jackson is not the most endearing guy out there. And he's not what I'd consider a complete WR. But he is a threat to score at any time and makes big plays. So I gotta give him his due even if he is an Eagle.

The Eagles should have seen this coming, I swear that if I was an owner there is no way in hell I would ever draft somebody represented by Rosenhaus.

Seriously, I would just not draft somebody if Drew was their agent. He is the worst scumbag agent on the plant.
