Yeah I'm tired of that as well

BUT

It's race day and the Daytona 500 is getting ready to roll.

I like the new rules, or lack there of regarding the bump drafting. Should be a heck of a race.

I'm saying either Mark Martin or jimmy Johnson takes this one.

Well, Jimmy was a lost cause yesterday. My hats off to Jamie McMurry. And what a heckuva run for Dale Jr. Jr. is my guy through the good and the bad.

To go from roughly tenth in the final lap to second was one heckuva run. It's good to see Dale finish off a race the right way, as well as kick off the 2010 Cup season the right way.

It's off to California.

I agree but once it happened they did the right thing to ensure the safety of the drivers. Not sure there was any way they would have known this was going to happen until it did.

That raceway was put through the wringer the last couple of weeks. Being subjected to the adverse cold weather, the rain, then the number of races held on it in a short time, I'm amazed there wasn't more problems like that. Of course, having a pipe leak under the track didn't help either.

Well I heard that drivers, including Dale Jr., had stated that the track needed resurfacing. But I agree that they didn't have many options once it happened. I can't believe that track hasn't been resurfaced in 30 years. It's probably the second most famous track in the country behind the Brickyard.

I had never actually watched NASCAR before, but the last 15 minutes of that race were pretty entertaining.

That's all i watched by the way.

stupid wind storm knocked out my electricity last night just before the restarted after the 2nd delay. I missed the great finish. Sucks, cause I am a Jr. fan. He finally races like an Earnhardt for the first time in years and I miss it.

http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar/cup/news/story?id=3899797That's funny because if you were watching during the delay which I was he said he had heard about they were going to resurface it and he wasn't real happy about it because he liked how bumpy it was and didn't want it to be like Talladega. But Jr. talking out of his *** is nothing new.

It is refreshing to see somebody stand up and say "my fault" and move on to fixing the problem rather than point fingers. I actually watched that race. The last stoppage though sent me into a nice nap so I missed the ending! You know damned well that when they go back there in July that place won't have the same problem.

Yeah, most drivers said that resurfacing the track would give the cars TOO much grip. And yes, he did say he didn't want them to resurface the track. Same old Jr.

The delays were a pain, but that finish was something I have truly missed in NASCAR for a long while.

Kudos for NASCAR making an effort to finish under green.

Yes, it was good to see Dale Jr racing like he cared in those closing laps.

The double file restarts have been great since they were brought back.

Yeah that is a huge plus. I used to be a huge NASCAR fan until they mickey moused the rules around and took actual racing out of NASCAR. Now if we could just get them to open up qualifying again (remember 2nd day qualifying) and get rid of that god awful chase format I would be pretty happy.

We may not agree on a lot but we totally agree here. They screwed up with the whole chase thing and using restrictor plates at SS.

Still love the sport but there is a lot of room for improvement.

Oh we only had one disagreement and I'm sorry for the way I came off. I was a way off on how I handled that and I'm sorry it was a bit stressful around here last week. Other then that I think we are solid?

I agree. If it means we had to put up with the lucky dog circus (developed for Dale Jr, imo), I'd much rather have the lapped cars in the rear.

I like the chase format for the most part. Fans whined and complained when Kenseth, I think, won the championship after not winning a race. The chase puts an emphasis on winning races to get bonus points. I'd much rather see that than a driver being content to ride around the track just for points.

It's mostly Jr fans that don't like the chase format. :laugh2:

I like the Chase format....I am a Jr fan. He is the reason he doesnt make the Chase. He makes stupid mistakes in every race, loses his composure, and so forth....also he runs into some bad luck sometimes, as an innocent by stander who gets taken out in a wreck....but this happens to a lot of the drivers. Just seems that with Jr, it happens more. Hopefully, he will continue with this newfound aggression...cause that kind of driving is in his bloodline and if he does stay aggressive, I see him making the Chase, year in and year out.

My 2 biggest beefs with the sport are

1. like 5 networks have the TV contract throughout the year. I like NASCAR on FOX as far as NEXTEL Cup....give me the Nationwide on TNT. I feel those two can adaquately cover the sport and we will know where to find the race every week.

2. I know it is tradition, but can we move the Daytona 500 to the last race of the season, since it is the Super Bowl of NASCAR?

Aikmaniac

The chase format is ok, I guess. I wish they would move the races around so each style of track (short track, 1.5 miler, superspeedway, road course) would all be represented.

Also, why not go back to Rockingham or why not add a second race to Darlington instead of going to California and/or Pocono twice? The reasoning for California, I'm sure, is because of Roger Penske, but I have no idea why they go to Pocono twice. I do know they have been visiting Pocono twice since I began watching back in the mid-80's.

The end of the race was awesome! I was a little bummed about Tony Stewart's run on Sunday, but that was one heck of a finish and I'm happy for McMurray.

Now that I am in the Charlotte area, I am going to hit a race this year for the first time in years, I am pretty excited!

The only problem is that the Chase can be wrapped up before the last race or two. Maybe have Daytona be the start to the chase or the end to the regular season.
