The sentiment that defensive end Julius Peppers will be paid more like Dwight Freeney, Jared Allen, and DeMarcus Ware and less like Albert Haynesworth omits the possibility that the same team that gave Haynesworth $40 million guaranteed might decide to take full advantage of the rules of the uncapped year by chasing Peppers, too.
Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins "are expected to pursue (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/albert-haynesworth/haynesworth-is-the-key-in-reds.html)" Peppers, which means that he'll likely be signed by daybreak on Friday.
Similar rumors -- though much more rampant -- emerged last year regarding Haynesworth and the Redskins. At one point, our pal Lance Zierlein of KGOW in Houston reported that it would definitely occur. And occur it did; a $100 million deal was negotiated between midnight and 5:30 a.m. on the first morning of free agency.
If/when the Redskins land Peppers and switch to a 3-4 defense, the eight-year veteran would move to outside linebacker for the first time in his career. As Reid points out, the key player in all of this will be the aforementioned Haynesworth, who might be expected to man the line-clogging nose tackle position -- and thus yield the glory to Peppers.
So on the ten-year anniversary of the greatest collection of highly-paid individual players who couldn't function as a team, it's fitting that the man who wrote the checks for the 2000 Redskins could be getting ready to do it all over again.
Redskins will bid on Sproles too (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/01/redskins-will-bid-on-sproles-too/)

It might be faster to just write a post on the big-name free agents the Redskins won't go after.
Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Redskins will be "among those" in the bidding for Darren Sproles (http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/mar/01/chargers-likely-to-assign-4-tenders/). Washington also reportedly wants Julius Peppers (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/01/report-redskins-want-peppers/).
A player being tied to the Redskins will help an agent drive a player's price up, so some skepticism is warranted when their interest is floated. Then again, Washington really does go after most top names.
Washington needs some explosive talent on offense in any form, and Mike Shanahan watched Sproles up close in the AFC West for years.
If Sproles did arrive, we wonder how Clinton Portis would embrace the move. As long as Portis problem heeds the message of Lavar Arrington's epic rant (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/02/09/lavar-arrington-directs-an-epic-rant-at-clinton-portis/), it shouldn't be a problem.

unbelievable.
The Redskins are so pathetic. I knew they would do this if an uncapped year came. Why don't they go out and get Dunta while their at it.
Idiots.
Feel bad for 4skin fans. A couple more reasons for Danny boy to raise prices on everything when they go 5-11.

If the rumors are all true, the Redskins will have Peppers, Dansby, Sproles, Pashtos, Dunta Robinson, Whitner, all in the house by Friday at noon, and Jason Campbell will be a Buffalo Bill

I forgot about B-Marshall also being traded for Landry and Moss.
Opening day 2010 roster would include Peppers, Dansby, B-Marshall, Sproles :)

This summed it up. :laugh2:
As talented as Haynesworth and Peppers are, they're still underachievers.
Keep writing those big checks, little man.

...Jerry should help danny spend more and pretend to be very interested in Sproles and Peppers.

I don't know that I believe this entirely but I certainly wouldn't be shocked by it in the least.
The best thing would be if they signed them both to massive deals that won't hurt them this year but will then screw them in the cap for the next 2-4 years after that when they've overpaid for a ton of FA again for a shot to try and buy a Superbowl in 2010.

Yeah...but it's PFT that's adding little ramp-up bits like "He'll be signed shortly after daybreak on Friday morning..."
Sorry -- I just really would like to hit Florio with a truck.

B/c like Skinsmaniac posted...if everytime we were linked to a free agent, we'd be signing:
Peppers
Sproles
C. Taylor
Pashos
Robinson
It's kind of ridiculous...

I think my favorite of all time was the 4 straight seasons we were linked to Courtney Brown becuase of the Lavar Arrington connection.
Samari Rolle in 2004 was another good one.
I thought Brett Favre was going to be the Redskins QB by now :(

Peppers will get his big pay day and never give any effort just like almost every single big free agent signing that team has done.
I love it that they never learn.
Heres an idea Washington... Learn how to draft... Keep a coach.

You guys can make all the jokes you want but I don't want Peppers going there. Let them stay weak.
OTOH, I could certainly get some joy out of them getting screwed when the cap is back in place. Assuming it ever will be.

I couldnt care less if they do get him. He does not have any upside at this point of his career, his best dfays are behind him. If they do sign him, it'll be for some massive way above market value deal, and the guy will probably notch 6 or 7 sacks. Skins fans will start hating on him the minute he goes sackless and shows up invisible in a division game.

Of course they do...this will be a fun offseason.
I hope they get both of them and they pay top dollar.
They will never scare me as long as Snyders running things...I remember when he bought them and brought in Stubblefieild and Wilkinson...They will never be a contender with Snyder, not with Mike Shanahan, Marty Shottenhiemer, that guy from florida that escapes my mind, Gibbs, Zorn, ect.

To be fair, Stubblefield and Wilkinson were brought in the winter of 1998, prior to the 1998 season.
Snyder took control before the 1999 season.
I bash the guy plenty, but lets get out facts right on the midget

Yep, just like clockwork the Skins have their checkbook out ready for the start of free agency.
When will the Skins ever learn that you build a team through the draft, not free agency. What a total loser organization.

What 3-4 ILB's do the skins have? Fletcher is good, but he is way to small to play in the 3-4. He is short and light and what other LB do they have?

yeah I would concerned about Fletch...but not too concerned...He is 5'10, but is still 245, and is still one of the best tacklers in the game...
I understand they'd move McIntosh inside as well...he's 6'2" 240-ish. Roughly the same size as Brady James.
