The entire post is pretty long, but it should help answer any questions.

This reminds me of a question I had. Why did Arizona cut Rolle? Doesn't that just hurt their chances of getting a compensatory pick, with no benefit to them?

So even if the Cardinals didn't give him a tender offer, he still wouldn't have qualified for compensatory pick purposes?

They couldn't tender him. He was under contract, and they cut him. That made him free to sign with any team he wanted.

Ah, ok. For some reason I thought he was a restricted FA this year.

# Adam_Schefter

New England was granted four compensatory picks - one in the sixth round and three in the third.

# Adam Schefter Adam_Schefter

Filed to ESPN: Cincinnati was granted compensatory picks in the third and fourth rounds - picks 96 and 131.

I am predicting Schefter is wrong and NE will get 3 7th round picks

Actually this has to be a mistake by Schefter. What did NE lose in FA? Seymour was traded

[quote=MarionBarberThe4th;3316386Look for NE to be big players in the sweepstakes to trade up to #10(Jax). They have all these extra 2's and 3's. You cant trade the comp picks obviously, but w/ the extra ammo they can trade #22, a 2, and like a 5th to get to #10 for CJ Spiller[/quote]
I do see Jax trading down (don't know about it being w/ NE) 5-15 slots and recouping that 2nd (and more) they used on Derek Cox last year. They're in a good position when you look at what they are looking for and what should be available later in rd1...so why not grab some extra picks?

Well theyre getting Tebow. But at #10 is too pricy/reachy. Trading into the 20's get them more picks and their local icon at a cheaper price.

No way they are getting Tebow in the 1st round. No way. Gene Smith (new GM as of last year) is way to smart for that.

Sorry if that came off as blunt, but they'd be crazy to put him and their team in that kind of position. Too much pressure on a 2 year project and the current coach and QB. Short term ticket sales is never the answer to long term solutions

Even before Tebow helped himself a bit w/ his workout that was their plan.

They cant fill their stadium, and Tebow draws thousands to the Senior Bowl. Hes a star and can sell tickets. No way do they do anything other than trade into the 20's and take him there.

Let's check back with each other after draft day:D

Garrard is WAY better than Tebow right now in ALL phases...and picking a local player to try to sell tickets is a tried and true failed long-term policy. Also, the Jags are doing very well this off season with season ticket sales. I agree that tebow would provide a nice short-term boost in sales though.

Who knows, they may even pick the guy in the second round...but round 1 has too much baggage that goes with it.

Thats my hole thesis here. They dont have a 2nd rounder. Thus trading down into the 20's gives them their guy where they want to take him plus extra picks. Perfect fit for them

Trading down to 20 gets them a second and maybe a 4th too, so they could still get him in the 2nd.

Trading down to 20 gets them a second and maybe a 3rd (or high 4th) too, so they could still get him in the 2nd.

Too risky. Even if theres a more talented player its just not worth it to them to not get him. Football is a business and they are failing. Even if some of these teams are bluffing the arrow seems to be pointing up for Tebow.

I think Tebow is the 4th or 5th QB on their board...so i was being generous saying second round. They do like Tony Pike some, so maybe in the 3rd they get him to begin development for a few years down the road.

I think you're off base (and very very simplistic business-wise) regarding Tebow, but I'll gladly admit if I'm wrong come draft day. You can hold me to it if I'm wrong....it's all good. Somebody is going to reach for Tebow fairly early, I just don't think it'll be Jax.

Was the NFL a bit early on the comp picks this year?

Peter Kings Direct Message to me.

He won't be taken by jax in the 20s about 13 hours ago He seems very confident. I still think it makes perfect sense for Jax but well see

No, because they were cut they do not count towards comp picks. Only unrestricted free agents who's contract has expired are eligible.
