It was pretty cool. They played after the Rampage hockey game out at Headlines (patio bar in the ATT Center). There was even a couple of mosh pits before a Paul Blart look a like put a stop to that.
This was my first time seeing the band. My honest thoughts are they can actually play very well, but Marc is not the best singer in the world. He seemed off key a little bit, and more than once. I'm also not the hugest heavy metal fan in the world, but their music is definitely intense and fires people up, if nothing else. Still, for a bunch of football players, I was impressed at what they did well more than disappointed at what they didn't.
I got to meet all the guys. They were all REALLY cool. I told Colombo thanks for beating the eagles b/c I absolutely hate them, and they all laughed and Colombo was like "I hate them too. Beating them three times was great." Davis is a large, large man. He was the only one who didn't want pictures taken. Bummer, but that's certainly his call. Procter was so fired about about how good the crowd was. I feel bad for Justin....clearly the one people were least interested in for obvious reasons. I told him he should put on some pads and get to it.
Anyways, they were all genuinely excited at how fired up the crowd was and very appreciative, so that was really neat to see, especially considering these guys are all multi-millionaires who are worshiped on a weekly basis. Fun times. Here's a few pics.

No wonder Colombo false starts at home all the time. He plays that stuff. Hearing check anyone?
Proctor...
He can't come out of his stance when the entire Giants' team is chasing Romo.
Where is bbgun with those great snap shots of that classic?
I'd break that band up, I say, break it up.:)

Hey I was there last night at well! We pretty much had the same impressions as you as far as the music goes. My wife thought Cory did really well on the drums. We stayed and both of us were able to take some pictures with Marc Columbo and Cory Procter. Leonard Davis was a little shy but we were able grab a quick photo of me and Davis together.
It was an awesome experience and all of them were really nice afterward! We had a blast.

What a great night you had and thx for sharing.
Nice to know some celebrities take time with their fans. That, to me, shows humbleness and class.
And, yeah, too bad about the flash. I imagine soldiers in trenches during tests of the A-bomb might have seen that effect as well.
I had to turn away for a sec.
OK, looks like you had too much fun at the party and that's just mighty fine.:)

Living in San Antonio means I only visit the Alamo or Riverwalk when family or friends are in town. So to answer your question, no idea. I went there a few years back with my wife but I don't recall a basement.

No joke! And get this, at least from my vantage point, Marc Columbo is taller. I wonder if PhillyCowboysLover noticed the same thing. The picture of me and also my wife is embarrassing. We look like kids next to them. Also, seeing Columbo throwing out f-bombs was more than worth the price of admission to the hockey game. He looks mean but was so nice after their performance, they'll rocked!

i did notice that, too. i agree, he seems taller. It was funny that Marc was cussing.....especially b/c the ATT Center is typically so family friendly. I'm sure they weren't expecting that. It was a nice change of pace.

Depends on what you're talking about. The new crap that they call metal features a bunch of guttural screaming and carrying on. MY definition of metal (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Metallica, etc.) does have melodic singing with an occasional scream thrown in.
Needless to say I am a fan of the latter.
Here's a newer band that does it right:

I'm talking about the new crap where it's nothing but screaming and banging heads. I'm okay with Metallica but some of these heavy metal bands that are on stage shredding their vocal cords acting like they've just dropped some acid is garbage in my opinion. Some of them can play it's opening their mouth that ruins it. Hey to each their own. I've always been into classic rock everything from The Who, Hendrix, Zepplin, The Eagles, Kansas, Heart, Fleetwood Mac and so on.

There's alot of people who don't like heavy metal and think yelling and screaming isn't singing. There's those out there who don't care for rock, country and classical to each their own. There's famous rock musicians who can't sing very well. Some of them wouldn't get past the audition on American Idol.

I've heard Colombo he tries but he can't sing. The only thing drawing any interest to Free Reign is the fact he and the rest of the band are all Dallas Cowboy players. No one would give a glance to Marty B's rap music if he didn't play for the Cowboys.

1. you're sort of correct in the fact that yelling and screaming isn't "singing". however, it is still a form of vocal music and does take talent to do it well.

Well based on what you have posted so far,and my wealth of knowledge in the subject matter,I'm more than convinced that you don't know what you are talking about.
I have been listening/playing heavy metal from the early 80's.
Rob Halford,Bruce Dickinson,Ronnie James Dio,Geoff Tate, all amazing singers. All display wide ranges and all are metal singers.
To post a blanket statement about heavy metal singers like that is plain silly.

I never claimed to be an expert on heavy metal I've heard it and it's just not my thing. Obviously with a username like "MetalHead" you're going to take exception to my views. This is another one of those topics that's based on opinion and a persons taste in music. The views I gave were for some of these new crap heavy metal bands like Free Reign. Does anyone honestly think they would have been offered a record deal if they weren't members of the Dallas Cowboys? That's what gave them their recognition and got their foot in the door. That alone will get fans to buy their records just out of curiosity. The only reason I listened to some of their crap is because I'm a Cowboy fan. LOL John Daly a famous PGA tour player sings at clubs. He has an AWFUL voice but he can draw an audience because of his fame as a golfer. It's like these women who get involved in these sex scandals with famous people. Penthouse and Playboy will offer these women millions to pose nude even if they're not all that hot because people will buy the issue just out of curiosity.

You better go back and carefully review my comments because I never said people who scream can't sing. I said "You don't have to be able to sing to do heavy metal just scream." Which is the truth if you listen to some of these new heavy metal bands. If you would read my comments carefully maybe you would understand what I'm talking about. No wonder nothing I'm saying is crystal clear to you. Mariah Carey has a screech but she can sing. An occasional scream, rasp or grind doesn't mean someone can't sing. The "new" heavy metal singers do nothing but scream at least the ones I've heard. I bet most of them couldn't sing the National Anthem. You find out who can sing and who can't during the National Anthem. Even some good singers choose to lip sync the National Anthem. I'm not going to do research on all the heavy metal singers to see who can actually sing because I could care less. There's many who can't sing care to deny that? The ones who get through the audition stage of a American Idol can sing.
You find out if a singer can actually "sing" when they perform live. All singers sound good in studio recordings but some sound like crap live. Here's Elvis screaming and rasping his way through Jailhouse Rock which proves singing and screaming can be incorporated into a great song.

also, I don't give a flying **** about American Idol. I don't watch it, I don't vote, I don't listen to people's conversations about it. it's not the "end all, be all" of singing.

I sound great in the shower or anywhere where there's a good echo. :D My rendition of American Pie in my sauna would bring a tear to your eye. If you're such a good singer go become a Youtube sensation or do a live stream on Stickam.
do you have the same BS comebacks for everything? "go put a video on youtube", "go try out for American Idol".
you came on here criticizing singers or metal bands and acting like you knew everything. you got proven wrong and made a fool of. just admit that you were wrong. it's that simple.

Being accepted on American Idol is not the mark of who is a great singer. It's all politics.

I don't use the same comebacks for everything I stick with the theme. I was just giving you some suggestions on how to draw an audience instead having to sing in front of your family and pets. :p: I said you don't have to be able to sing to do heavy metal just scream. I should have added and be able to play because most of them can do that. Metal heads probably don't care if they can't sing as long as their music is loud enough to drown out their screaming. You seem to think because you sing karaoke and in a church choir that makes you an authority on heavy metal bands. Dude it's all a matter of personal taste in music. It's fans who make or break all of them. I don't care how weird sounding or strange a musician is if they have a following someone's going to want to manage them. There's an audience for heavy metal, punk, new wave, pop, rock, disco, country and classical. What sounds good to me may not sound good you and vice versa.
Not every singer has a good voice. Jimi Hendrix wasn't a great a singer but he was a great guitarist and that's what made him. Bob Dylan never had a great voice but it's the songs he wrote that put him on the map. All singer/entertainers are going to receive some criticism if their singing isn't up to par, their acting isn't very good or if some fans simply don't like their style. If they can't handle some criticism they're in the wrong business. There isn't anyone of them out there who hasn't had a door slammed in their face at least once in their life.

1. I've been singing in front of crowds since I was a little kid. I've been drumming in front of crowds for well over 10 years now. some people do come to karaoke to see me, some people ask me to sing with them, some parents ask me to listen to their kids and give them pointers. I'll let that speak for itself.
2. I never said me singing in a choir or karaoke makes me an authority for heavy metal. however, I do sing some songs that involve both screaming and singing. I'm pretty sure the fact that I know how to do both very well makes me an authority for metal.
3. yep, different people have different tastes in music. just because YOU don't like metal doesn't give you an authority to rag on their singing ability/style. why? because clearly, you have no idea about what you're talking about.

Singing in front of crowds your entire life doesn't give you the authority to rag on other peoples opinion of Free Reign or any other heavy metal band. Until you have a record deal that can be verified don't tell me or anyone else they don't know what they're talking about simply because you don't agree with their opinion and think singing karaoke and in a choir makes you an expert. Every music fan out there who buys music and concert tickets has the right to give their opinion on a particular band or style of music. The guy who started this thread was critical of Colombo's singing so you don't think he has the authority to give his opinion because he's not a musician or record producer?
Anyone who bought a ticket to that concert has the authority to give their opinion of their performance. I asked you if you thought all heavy metal singers can "sing" and you gave no answer. Do you think Marc Colombo can sing? Do you think his band would have gotten a record deal and attract fans if he and the rest of the members weren't Dallas Cowboys? Most of the fans who go see them play are Cowboy fans. You can see all the Cowboy jersey's out there.

yep, you have to right to your own opinion. just because you have that right doesn't mean you know what you're talking about. it's painfully obvious.
me being into, and around, music my entire life and having accomplished what I have gives me the authority to correct you when you're wrong. just because someone bought a ticket to a concert doesn't mean they know anything about music.
I'll throw these scenerios out there:
would slipknot be as big as they are if they didn't wear costumes and make-up on stage?
would Rob Zombie be as big as he is if he didn't do off the wall stuff at his shows?
what about Alice Cooper? Ozzy?
my point is this, and it's a simple one... Whatever it takes to get bodies in the seats/stands/whatever else...

Dude anyone can come on here bragging about their accomplishments while sitting behind a computer. People can be whatever they want to be online. If you've accomplished so much from singing karaoke and in your church choir then where's all your albums and give us the date for your next concert appearance. LOL All you're doing is talking ****. Unless you can come up with a heavy metal album you've produced or a metal band you've managed nothing you say will be credible. I'm the one who asked the questions and here you are tap dancing around them. I guess we can add dancing to your list of talents. :p: Listen Mr song and dance answer the questions do you think Marc Colombo can sing? Do you think Free Reign would have been offered a record deal if all the members weren't Dallas Cowboys? As for Rob Zombie and Slipknot crazy costumes and off the wall stuff is part of alot of bands performances. The costumes, makeup, fireworks, smashing guitars is all part of putting on a show for some of those bands. If singers can sing and play they're going to attract fans regardless of costumes and off the wall antics.
Alice Cooper could sing the eye makeup, guillotines, electric chairs and fake blood were part of his show but you don't see any of that when you're listening to him driving in your car or at home. Some bands have to put on a crazy outrageous show to attract fans to their concerts. As for Ozzy he SUCKS! I have no idea what his appeal is. Saw him on Howard Stern awhile back and he looked like he was in a coma I couldn't understand a word he said. I found Sterns other guest who could fart the Star Spangled Banner more talented than Ozzy. If you're trying to make a point you've missed badly because the only thing that gets bodies in the seats to see Free Reign is some other event that fans bought tickets for. Read the thread they played after a hockey game. LOL They're trying get in front of a crowd anyway they can in hopes they can appeal to enough fans who will actually buy tickets to see THEM.
