I did as a gesture in support of environmental causes. I don't do "everything green" but I do try to avoid waste and reuse/recycle whenever possible.

My attitude towards it really changed once I had my son. I realized that I'm turning this planet over to him so I better not waste or pollute too much because I am just passing the problem onto him.
It really isn't that hard to use re-usable cloth bags (including small ones for produce), avoid bottled water and recycle your metals/glass/paper/cardboard/plastics. It probably takes me less than 10 minutes a week to do in total.
For a family of 3, we produce less than one bag or garbage per week now.

Aww man, if I had known that was today (this isn't from previous years right?) I would have turned all my lights on. Oh well.

Same here. I expected him to make some sort of humorous non sequiter that would complete the parody.

In the video, there's a bottle of water next to the cutting board.

You don't have to avoid bottled water all together, just keep reusing the ones that you have.

Every light in the house was on, plus the washer dryer and oven. :)

I think the plastic degrades over time so there is a limit there. The re-usable plastic types were made with a special type of plastic that didn't give off that plasticky taste. However, there is at least a theoretical risk of causing male genital abnormalities so with a newborn son we got rid of all of them. The bottles my wife uses are made by Sigg and have no plastic in them.
