I like his music, although I'm not an expert on it or anything.

He's from a little hole of a town called Wink, Texas, and recorded some of his early music at the same studio that Buddy Holly used in Clovis, N.M., where I was born.

I like Roy ---And I liked the drive up at the Holiday Inn and the Last Chance drive up....They both had a rep for selling adult beverages to underage Muleshoe boys

I am not a hug fan of him so I don't know a great deal of his songs, but the ones I have heard I do like. His voice does have that calming effect on you.

Not so much the voice, but Bob Marley always has that ability to mellow me out or if I am already in a mellow mood I enjoy listening to his music.

There are some groups that for the most part I will not even listen to unless I am in a mellow mood...Pink Floyd is one of those groups. Love them when I am in a mellow mood but find them boring when I am in the mood to rock.

I was just glad to see that Orbison was around for the resurgence in the appreciation of his music, unlike those who only get it after their death. He was sure having a blast during the 'Traveling Willburys' days.

Broadcast in January 88 on HBO, it was filmed at the Ambassador Hotel's Coconut Grove nightclub in LA, taped in September 87.

The back-up band was the TCB Band, Elvis' band from 1969 until he croaked on the pooper in 77: Glen D. Hardin on piano, James Burton on lead guitar, Jerry Scheff on bass, and Ronnie Tutt on drums.

Male and female vocalists/performers included: Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Steven Soles, K.D. Lang, Jennifer Warnes, and Bonnie Raitt.

The special was filmed entirely in black and white, and visually, is one of the coolest "concert films" I've seen.

Notice the empty rocking chair where Roy would have been sitting prior to his death. He died before they got to finish and release this album. You can hear his voice in this song.

I have a two hour video of the Wilbury's documenting how they made all their songs in Dylan's studio.

It's funny how these singers all came togeather. George Harrison came up with one song that stuck in his head but he did not know what to do with it.

So, he goes to Dylans house to jam. Tom Petty was there.

During a recording session, Jeff Lynne had flown in to the USA to pick up a guitar that he had left at Dylan's house. They all started to jam, then decided they need a good singer...they called Roy up.;)




I equate this kind of coming togeather like the 90's Cowboys.

Kind of a cool story about Roy Orbison.

There was a rock concert (I'm wanting to say U2) in the late 80s when during a break a guy came on stage and said something to the lead singer (presumably Bono). After checking again that he had heard correctly, he came up to the mike and said, "Somebody just became the best singer in the world."

Mr. Roy Orbison has just passed away."
