Just throwing this out here because I was surprised to hear it today on sports talk radio. (I believe it was a Fox radio station, if not, I apologize.) I didn't realize ex-Cowboy James Washington was a regular now in the sports talk radio circuit but I caught a little bit of his show today. I still remember Washington for that great Super Bowl performance in which I think he might have deserved co-MVP honors with Emmitt Smith. I know he didn't last long in the league and I don't know how much he is still connected with the Cowboys, but on the show, they brought up the news of Jim Jeffcoat's firing and this was his take on it:
Said Jeffcoat was a coach even when he was playing with him and was one of the truly good guys in the league. Thought he was a valuable asset to any team and didn't think he was fired because he wasn't good at coaching. Said sometimes a change just needs to be made.
But regarding Parcells and any possible motivation for the firing, and this is where it gets interesting, he thinks Parcells is in danger of repeating Jimmy Johnson's follies. Washington said Parcells thinks he's bigger than the Dallas Cowboys and he shouldn't view it that way. He thinks Parcells is going to have the same problem Jimmy Johnson did and have an ego that is too big for the team but he thinks it will work a little while longer because Jerry Jones is doing everything he can to make this relationship work.

And he is basing this on what?
More crap rumors, but hey its the offseason.

BP hasn't won anything yet in Dallas, I doubted if he has a big head now. After another one or two super bowls then may be.
I get the same exact feeling. Someone needs to tell BP that his greatness pales in comparison to the cowboys...

I enjoy Washington's comments and opinions on the show.
He wasn't the most talented guy, but had some Dennis Thurman in him ... a savvy guy who doesn't pull any punches whether he's on the field or sharing his opinion.
As a player, James was the anti-Tony Dixon. Instinctive, gutsy, smart, cocky.
He's a good addition to the radio show because he's funny and isn't very diplomatic.
I think Parcells' ego is enormous, but he got humbled last season. It'll be interesting to see how he responds.

Yeah, I doubt he could have a big ego after that. Plus with all the this Little Bill being the reason for his sucess talk, ought to motivate him more than ever.
I could even see him stick around till Cowboys are really sucessful and if they are on verge of SB or have a chance of SB, he might stick around for more than 2 years left on his contract. Just to prove his sucess is not because of Bill Billichek alone. Somehow I dont think he will abandon ship like he did with Jets that quickly. Well obviously health issues can change that, I guess like with Jets.

Right on boss. If next year even resembles this year in any way, shape or form, Parcells is gonna feel heat worse than he ever experienced this year.
Indeed, it will be interesting.
Post more, will ya Sally?

Agreed.
I haven't given up on him, yet.
There are a number of ways Parcells can go
He's either going to put in an enormous effort and learn from what went wrong...or...he's going to become even more of a control freak and even less willing to take advice from others.
His ego doesn't bug me, too much...only when it gets in the way of being flexible. I think that's the biggest concern going into next season.

You're entiteld to your opinion just like James Washington is entitled to his.
Opinions can't be wrong , they are just interesting to ponder, sometimes.
There is no denying the fact, however, that Parcells has an ego larger than his stomach.

But, is that a bad thing? (Ego)
He knows he has the know how to get us back on top...
Would you rather have some clown like campy actually coming out with a silly "Time clock" innovation?
Nope, just give Parcells his $$$ in FA and those 3 early picks in the draft AND give him the leadership on Defense and were right there where we want to be!

I hope Mr Parcells has looked at himself in the mirror and said "Self you aren't as great as you thought you were so I either stick my ego in the ole back pocket or I use it for the betterment of the team and not just to self serve."
Mr Parcells bring the Cowboys back to prominence and you will be seen as a great coach now..........not as a great coach that was.

I think Parcells is privately steaming over Belichick's success and will hopefully have extra motivation to bring Dallas back to NFL glory. Beneath the surface, there is a massive competition going on between the Bills right now in my opinion... even if neither of them want to admit it.

My thoughts as well........It just may be the kick in the pants BP needed.

This whole thread is the reason why 2005 is a pivotal year in the current regime. It's already interesting in that changes are being made; but whether for better or worse we won't know for sure until around the end of the year.

James Washington hated Jimmy Johnson because he benched him in favor of Thomas Everett and soon a younger (and far better) player named Darren Woodson.
Washington started Superbowl 28 by default, I think, and he freelanced the whole game. Good thing for the Cowboys that it worked out. He started the next season for Switzer and became Switzer's spokesperson. Talk about putting oneself ahead of the team, Washington was a headhunter who really stunk in coverage and never wrapped up the players he managed to hit.
Remember that ridiculous Giants game on MNF midseason in 1994 where the game ended in a bench-clearing brawl and Washington was photographed holding some tripod equipment he snatched from the sideline to defend himself with? Just listen to him talk and you'll believe there's an "I" in team.

Please don't let Parcells get run out of town after winning two super bowls and then trying to take all the credit from Jerry.
That would be just horrible.

I fully expect to see Parcells cracking the whip this coming training camp, I think the players better be ready for it.

You're right, James freelanced WAY too much (what do you expect from a guy who nicknames himself "drive-by"), and got away with it because he played with great teammates who covered a lot of his mistakes. He wasn't so lucky with the Redskins. Did he even finish his contract there? I always thought Washington was the equivalent of Alvin Harper. Same attitude, different side of the ball.
Its funny how Parcells is now a b@st@rd for being EXACTLY what Cowboy fans wanted in a head coach 3 years ago.

Haven't heard him as a radio guy, but if anyone recorded the Post Game interviews after Super Bowl 28, go back and listen to the one with James Washington. He doesn't talk about the team or the Cowboys being World Champions for a second straight year. He instead, and I'm paraphrasing, talks about how he used the Super Bowl as a tool to "showcase" his talents for all the other teams in the league.

Jimmy Johnson can have any ego he wants. He won 2 Super Bowls when he was here and his guys won a third despite Switzer. The franchise has done nothing since. No one should ever disparage Jimmy in relation to the Cowboys.
