View Full Version : This year should be a good barometer on Parcells

I believe this offseason (draft & free agency) and this season 2005 should be a good barometer on whether Parcells is still the elite coach he once was. When parcells got here he really had no idea what kind of team he had. He had no idea about the team's identity, strengths and weakness. He also was hamstrung with certain players due to the salary cap. It is not reasonable in this day of the cap to willy nilly cut half your team. Parcells has had two drafts and has mined a few gems. Johnson, Julius Jones, Newman, and Witten come to mind. These 4 are better than any player we drafted in the 5 years prior to Parcells arriving other than Roy Williams. The draft looks ok, so far, and other gems may yet still emerge from the past two drafts. We have added a few good free agents in 2003. This year several of the guys who were weak links could be cut or traded, depending on the talent available in the draft and the talent available in free agency. I think you will begin to see the effect of Parcells fingerprints on this franchise this year. I really believe this team gets better in 2005. I also really expect to see us active in trading a front line player or two for picks (guys who just dont fit in with Parcells philosophy (maybe Glover).

Great post Verdict

I think this year will be an excellent barometer. I have been critical of Parcell's recent decisions but I'm more than willing to admit I was wrong about him if he coaches this team to a winning record.

I know this year he will have no excuse. He has the cap money and 2 first round draft picks. It's up to him who keeps at QB etc.

This year will be the barometer.

At the end of next season, half this board will be right and half will be wrong.

Verdict -

Pretty long paragraph but a very good post anyway.

You're right, it is a very pivotal year. You can forgive short term mistakes if he builds a great long term team. I think the team will be visibly better this year and even better next year.

Definitely a big year for the Parcells regime.

With the schedule the Cowboys face they have a chance turn it around and be a good team. At least improved.

If the Cowboys stink it up this year. Parcells will likely be gone. Either by his own doing or the Jerrah. IMO.

Lot of work to be done. Especially considering the NFC East will be a little better this year as well. (HopefullY)

I've been told that the last few years. Not stopping now.

Fair enough.

I gotta keep hope alive. As Jesse Jackson would say.

Why? Are you guys going to get over the hump by signing a bunch of high priced veteran free agents this season?

Oh wait...you've been doing that every year since DannyBoy took over. :p

I think the team will be visibly better this year and even better next year.I think that there had damn well better be some improvement this year. At the end of this year if there are not tangible things that we can point to and say that these are the improvements that Parcells has made this year then Jerry will be giving him his walking papers. This is not a hope on my part (though I hate Parcells) it is just an assessment.

Jerry has swallowed a lot of pride to let Parcells manhandle the front office the way he has. If he does not get some tangible results this coming year he is going to explode all over Parcells. Jerry is not a patient man and will not stand for the bullying that he and his people get from Parcells unless he (Parcells) delivers the goods.

As much as I dislike Parcells I still believe that he can make a winner out of this team and that is all I care about in the end. So I sincerely hope that he does have a good year and that he can get the Dallas Cowboys on a winning track.

I can't disagree with anything that you said. This is year three, and anything less than a playoff appearance will mean failure.

great post. I agreee this year will give us a look on whether parcells knows wat he's doing or not.
