Are we wasting our time with Drew Henson? Is he really the answer? Are 05 or o6 the target year for his inauguration? These are questions I as a Cowboy fan need answers too! This is why I’m so interested in the draft. This is why I’ll be watching what we do in the free agent market.
I’m not one who subscribes to the bus driver theory. I don’t want a bus driver….who takes the bus anyway? Give me a NASCAR driver everyday! I want a Field General, a blood a guts guy that scares defenses. Give me Patton, Sherman…. MacArthur! I want an offense that attacks; I want an offense that stays on the offensive.
This brings me to my point. Are the Cowboys looking for a real quarterback? Is Henson the real deal or should we be searching for our next Staubach, our next Aikman? Field Generals that have taken us to the promise land. Quarterbacks that threatened defenses. These men set standards on and off the field. The same standards I’m looking for in our next great Quarterback.
This is the year I expect results. This is Bill’s third year, it’s his team now. It falls on his shoulders. It’s time he shows us his plan. If he pursues a QB in the draft, than Drew isn’t what I was hoping for. If we go after another vet…(please, not Vinny) than Drew is what we are hoping for. At least he is what the organization believes is our next warrior.

It's possible, but the only way to find out is to give him time.
QBs, if they are going to develop, will take time to develop. So organizations have to bite the bullet and be patient. In the end it could be for not, but it's pointless to just give a guy a year or two then give up on him. QBs usually take about 4 years to develop, and that's under ideal circumstances.

I don't think we're wasting our time with Henson....not at all.
I think we are wasting our time with Vinny...and I like the guy. I think he'd make a great back up QB.
But if Henson put up Vinny's numbers, we'd probably be somewhat discouraged. Yet, here's a guy who's been around forever putting up rookie numbers and starting every game. Now that's a waste of time.

I'd be happy with Henson putting up ANY numbers at this point.
Change is a needed.

I have to agree. Drew, when he finally gets a chance, is going to make mistakes and probably put up pedestrian numbers BUT a good qb will learn from them. Everything I've ever heard about Henson (physical tools aside) is that he is incredibly smart and learns from his mistakes. That and his terrific physical skills give me hope that we will be contenders again soon. :D

Actually, if Drew matched Vinny's numbers from last year, I would be pretty darn happy. That wouldn't be bad at all for a QB starting his first year. Could they be better? Sure, but 3500 yards and 17 tds would work for a first year of starting.

If Henson could put up VT numbers in his rookie season It would be a hell of a season. The problem is he wont or wouldnt have come close. Paitence is going to be needed, he stands a better chance with Parcells here than he ever would with out him.

It's going to be a while before we know anything about Henson. We could be having this same conversation a year from now.

Morning Winks - I agree on Henson and wouldn't at all be surprised if he is NOT our starter next year.
Frankly - I have no expectations of this team, right now, whatsoever.
Hopefully, FA and the draft will cure some of that.

I was playing abit of ESPN NFL 2k5 last night ... simulated several seasons in Franchise mode.
I traded for Drew Brees, and he eventually developed into a so-so QB. I was hoping Hensen would progress, but after 3 years of riding the pine, his stock went from a 70 rating to a 50 rating.
ha ha. I'm hoping this isn't a reflection of the real Drew.
BTW, my first season, I went 10-6. Then 6-10. Holy smokes. I think I'm psychic or at least, psycho. Then I followed up with 2 7-9 seasons.
I'll be back in 2 years to let you know how accurate I am. h aha
Sorry for getting off track. What I'm trying to say is, the Xbox doesn't seem to think Hensen to turn out to be much of anything.

Ironically Viper, in the press conference at which Tuna first uttered the words "bus driver," he also spoke of the term "field general" several times. The press (and we) locked onto the term "bus driver."
I believe the issue is entirely overblown.
BP has worked with both bus drivers (Hostettler) and Generals (Bledsoe, whom he drafted as a veritable George S. Patton out of college).
I am no strong Parcells supporter (can't stand his leadership style), but given the choice between Douglas MacArthur and Ralph Kramden, I believe he takes Doug every day of the week ...
... besides, MacArthur has a much faster 40 time.
