I signed up a few days ago when I got my new phone. All ready heard from people I haven't seen since high school. Pretty neat.

Stay in touch with family members, found some old friends, and have connected with a few people on here.

I avoided it and that other one for a long time. (the other one like it was the plague, cause thats what it is) I didn't finally join Facebook and I hooked up with a few old friends and several people I know know, but the Social networks just don't do it for me. I especally hate when I get all these idiot request from people to do crap I have no interest in doing. Block the application, you get some other stupid thing like. "Become a fan of nothing!"
No thanks, now go get killed. :laugh2:

Anyone who wants to add me, feel free. I go by my name "David Halkett" and I am the one in a pic with my son, wife and I, son and I are wearing Canadiens' jerseys, he's in a hockey helmet.
Would be interesting to see if any of you actually appear the way I envision you.

Speaking of facebook.
I am not on Facebook, but I received an invite from a friend today. In the email invite at the bottom, it said, "Other people you may know on facebook" and a few of the pictures were people that I know.
It's odd that I am not on Facebook but the software somehow knows the people that I would know.

My handle is Joey M. Rodriguez. I might try to link up to a few of you folks tonight after I put the kids down. If anyone else wants to divulge their handle, shoot me a PM. You can never have too many friends in or out of the Zone! :)

Chances are the people you know are also in your friends contacts.
I'm also pretty sure Facebook manages to get your contacts (address book) from the email you've provided them.

**** Facebook.
Friend of mine who works with online stuff all the time said he was reading an article about how Facebook could potentially take over Google as the default search engine. Said Facebook would allow for customized results based on the information you share with the site.
I hope it never happens.

That's a process that you initiate when searching for people you may know that are already on FB. They can't access your email account without your permission.
That being said, <3 FB.

Google has an enormous marketshare of search revenue and other top search engines that have been around for quite some time have nothing on Google.
Even if Facebook were a search engine, which it is not - not even remotely, they would never compete with Google.

Didn't want to make it sound like they were. Wouldn't be hard for them to jump in if they wanted to.
And I think they could compete in the future. Not immediately but in the future. Think about searching for something and having the results most likely to interest "you" showing up.
I hope they don't but I wouldn't rule it out. The power of popularity can carry anything a long ways.

I know my wife mentioned some odd things concerning Facebook and her Yahoo account. Like Facebook contacting her contacts through her email and not directly from her.
It seems by default your info is theirs for the taking until you change your privacy settings. But I don't really check it all that much so I don't really know. Most of my info is BS anyway, just joking around.
What does <3 FB mean?

I only have 2 contacts in my Outlook at work and those are consultants we work with and they were not on that Facebook email.
One guy that was on the 'Others you may know list' is someone I worked with at work but we weren't friends.

Question though for some of you, why use a moniker on Facebook? How does anyone from the past find you if you use a moniker?
Isn't the whole reason for facebook to allow you to find past friends, contacts etc? Seems to me you should use real name for that.

I have a Yahoo account, too, and you have to authorize accessing your contacts every time you use the Friend Finder. There is no way that Facebook can get them because they would have to also know your email account password.

Well, I actually just added the username recently. I've got all my old school friends already added.
Lots of my friends have changed their names on FB b/c they are job searching or something and don't want to be searched.

companies dont have to search you by name. FB owns the rights to everything you share with them so when companies want to find you they get around privacy settings and everything by going directly through facebooks corperate whatever and they can find you by the email you provided them the company you currently work for if you shared that and any number of things. and even if you delete it they can get the cached versions.

yeah, FB is getting really creepy. I had a lot of my info deleted BY facebook because I refused to have it linked to some page or another. I mean really!
I've put a lot of funny/bogus stuff like....

That happened to me too, the odd thing is, they seem to create some kind of link to whatever you had written.
Next to television shows, I put 'You Got To Be Kidding Me' and it created some kind of link to a page that I just glanced at.
Under Activities I put Wasting Time, which now links to some other page.
Frigging weird.

Plus, we could even discuss football.
