We are in the midst of cleaning up from one of the worst disasters to hit this state in forever. There was no looting, no killing, no acting like morons.

There was neighbor helping neighbor. Even when faced with our own issues we were able to help others.

The national media attention that we got on this was so minimal compared to the 24/7 coverage of the Katrina flood in New Orleans.

We are having our own fundraisers to help with the effort, but I don't hear plans for a national fund raiser. (Does Kanye hate Tennesseans?)

Anyway, the point is that I am very proud of the way my neighbors responded to this event and are still responding.

Most of the major tourist attractions have been damaged and will be a long while before being able to reopen. Economically this will be devastating to our economy, over and above the damage from the floods alone which is already estimated over a billion dollars.

Again, way to got Nashville. You've done Tennessee proud!

The only thing we might be jealous of is the music but since we are the home of the blues we win that also. hehehehehe

Yep, I got lucky because I lived in a place that did not get any accumulation. The other day, I went to help a family in my BF's Boy Scouts Troop, and their house was devastated. I was helping dry out their great grandmother's diary, family photos, grandfather's dissertation, but many of their other keepsakes were destroyed, and it was very sad.

Many people in the area here didn't have flood insurance because they were told they didn't live in a Flood zone, and so I'm hoping things are going to work out to help them get back on their feet.

We are coming together and helping each other, and it is very incredible.

We are called the Volunteer State, and it has never been truer than now.

Friends of my friend that live in Nashville said that there has been looting in their neighborhood.

They just aren't getting the same press on it.

My sister and her family live in a suburb called Brentwood, which has been largely unaffected. Not so in the Belle Meade section, which is where we lived for three years in the 1970s.

Well, I live here and have not heard a single case of it. Unless there was an isolated case of a moron doing it.

Brentwood got through pretty much but there was areas of Franklin that got hammered. Franklin is right next door to Brentwood.

One more thing. If you like country music check out

http://www.johnrich.com/

He just wrote and recorded a song about the flood and is free for downloading.

If you would like to help you can text REDCROSS to 90999 and there will be a 10.00 donation that will go to help with the efforts here in Nashville. It will appear on your cell phone bill.

I hope this isn't against forum rules posting this.

Thanks to Yeager for the heads up on the John Rich link.

Probably because the severity isn't on par with Katrina.

They had a celebrity telethon last night. Read that Taylor swift donated 500K. Pretty awesome on her part.

I think the difference is that we were much better organized. I wouldn't say it was more sever because there is literally billions lost in terms of damage and lost revenue. It will have a major impact.

And Taylor is a very special young lady. I am so impressed with where her head is at for such a young person.

There's another fundraiser going on with profits going to several local orgs and the Red Cross here if you purchase a "I <3 nashville" and H2010 Flood relief t-shirt.
