Will it be on the level of the abuse you've taken for your Cavs worship??

ROTFLMAO... don't see where you can claim "ownage" when your team couldn't even make it to the finals... you seem to think when your team is eliminated, you can just move on to a new "favorite" team... even if it's the same team that just eliminated your original favorite team...

You talk a lot of trash, and rarely back it up... me, I'd prefer to see the Celtics win (never have been a Lakers fan), but the more you run your mouth, the more I find myself hoping the Lakers take it, just to shut you up... :D

By now, I would have thought you'd learned that he who lives by the smack, dies by the smack...

Nice sig pic.

We would get along very well. Laker/Dodger/Cowboys fan here too.

I'm a military brat. I was born in Wichita Falls, TX and given a football with a blue star on it when I was 8 years old by my dad. The rest was history. Two years later we relocated to March AFB in SoCal where my Dodger/Laker fandom sprouted wings. I was out there for 8 years, graduated HS, & entered the Air Force at the LA MEPS. So I normally say SoCal is "home" because I identify mostly with that area (not to mention the wealth of old HS friends I have out there).

I'm surprised you came out of the WPP to even post this. Normally you disappear for weeks at a time when all doesn't go well then reappear when you see a glimmer of hope. Rest assured, I will be right here through thick & thin.

This won't be an easy series for my purp&gold by any means. It's going to be the toughest championship the Kobe era Lakers have ever had to get. There will be major drama throughout and I will be thrilled to have witnessed it all. The Lakers will take it but they'll have to do it in 7 games. ;)

Well I have to give you a little respect after hearing your fan path. I thought you were just a classic bandwagoner.

But Gasol better watch what he says. Dont want an angry KG on his hands.

This Boston team has a knack of bouncing back after big losses. Cleveland stole game 3 and blew the celtics out of the water and everything was dandy with the cavs being up 2-1..well the rest is history.

lol Laker fans should make those t-shirts.."u mad?"

In every great NBA team, I've ever seen play, there have always been a great player surrounded by good players. Often, there are two great players. The Lakers are no different. Bryant is an all time great player. Boston has always done this. They have always devised game plans to try and stop the Great player from beating them. They are particularly hard on this in the Garden. last night, they tried to take Kobe away and Fisher stepped up and made plays. That's what good teams do. It doesn't mean that Kobe is not a great player. It's the difference, IMO, between the Lakers and the Cavs. James is a great player as well but when they took him away, nobody stepped up and made you pay. The Lakers are fortunate to have players who have stepped up, to this point. Doesn't lesson the fact that Bryant is the best player in the NBA at this point.

Celtics fan here... I am miffed by the extreme confidence of all Lakers fans. This thread has offered no insight into the series going on at all. If this were a Cowboys discussion it wouldn't have made it past page 1.

Boston was supposed to be home sitting in their recliners, playing with their grandchildren, weeks ago. Remember some analysts didn't think they could even get past Miami. But that doesn't make them any less formidable of an opponent. They are the best matchup for L.A. Orlando or Cleveland would be down 3-0 and would barely be competitive at this stage of the series.

IMO, the play has been brutal to this point on both sides. Mostly due to too many ticky tack fouls called on both teams. I'd love to see some basketball played between the foul shots every once in a while. Let 'em play and swallow the whistle for a while (mostly because i think Boston has an advantage if that happens).

:welcome: When you're deailing with a disgruntled LeMad fan and not a Celtic fan you end up with a thread like this. :) I happen to love all of it whether a meaningful transfer takes place or not. I also agree with everything you said. Some other things to note about the series thus far:

Andrew Bynum is playing exceptionally well and is providing that presence we really need in the middle. Thanks goodness for knee drains!!!

Pau Gasol is playing much stronger thna he did in 2008.

Artest has given us that enforcer that we truly missed when Rick Fox retired.

Derek Fisher is a freaking beast and a half.. nuff said.

Paul Pierce should have never opened his mouth and made that "we're not coming back to LA" comment as he walked off the court after game #2.

Rondo is a freaking beast with the ball. He's so difficult to contain and has a ridiculous knack for findingthe open man. He bothers me the most.

Ray Allen went from breaking a record for 3ptrs made to going 0-13. WOWZERS. I'm not banking on Allen having another 0-13 effort. We need to keep someone in his face or it's going to spell trouble tonight.

Our bench needs to outplay your bench. Plain & simple.

The refs have definitely left lots to be desired in this series. When you know two team are coming it to try and out physical each other you give them a chance to play that physical game. the fans want it. The team want it. Don't chop things up without at least letting thme mix it up a bit... .very disappointing.

Meaningful thoughts to a Celtic fan... :D

These refs are absolutly embarrassing. Those foul calls on Rasheed Wallace were an absolute joke. Gasol going to the line every ****ing time. He straight up fell on his own and yelled like he got hit.

That charge call on Pierce was not a charge. KoBRICK was CLEARLY shuffling his feet.

I'm sorry but the Lakers did not outplay the Celtics that half. These refs are giftwrapping free trips to the FT line for Pau "ow my vagina" Gasol.

Not gonna get involved in the pissing match that this thread has become, but as a lifelong Bulls fan, this is the biggest difference between Kobe and MJ. I would never say MJ did it by himself by any means, but he was never the sidekick. From 99-03 Shaq was the focal point and best player of those Laker teams. In '04 Kobe had started to surpass Shaq's skill level, but they lost. MJ was, for lack of a better term, The Man, for all 6 of his titles. Couple that with the fact Kobe has lost 2 Finals and only has 1 MVP and I don't think even if Kobe wins this year and next that he would be MJ's equal. In that situation MJs 6>Kobe's 6.

right here through thick & thin. ;)

This won't be an easy series for my purp&gold by any means. It's going to be the toughest championship the Kobe era Lakers have ever had to get. There will be major drama throughout and I will be thrilled to have witnessed it all. The Lakers will take it but they'll have to do it in 7 games. ;)

Don't chop things up without at least letting thme mix it up a bit... .very disappointing.Meaningful thoughts to a Celtic fan... :D

Well one out of three isn't too bad I guess :D Bynum's knee is not going to make it through this series it doesn't appear. And the lack of depth at the position for the Lakers is really going to hurt them. You are a championship caliber team no doubt, but you only have one man (Odom) to back up Gasol and Bymum? That's not good management IMO. People didn't give any credit for the pick up of Rasheed Wallace, but throughout these playoffs he's been exactly what we needed... a tough player who's not afraid to foul and foul hard, but more importantly he's another capable player to steal some minutes off the bench with "Big Baby."

Gasol's game changed the minute he set foot in Boston. He's playing scared if you ask me. He's disappearing down the stretch, not moving without the ball, and standing around watching it get dribbled around on the perimeter. However, to his credit, he knows that if he yells like Serena Williams on a backhand smash that he will get a foul called in the paint...

I have to disagree with your assessment of Fisher. He's had one good quarter out of 16... That doesn't equal a beast and a half... if that were Barber out there we'd be screaming for more Farmar... I think him guarding Allen is killing his legs, and his attempts at flailing his arms to draw fouls are killing him, because everytime he does it HE ends up with the foul.

After last night I do agree that your bench HAS to outplay our bench. Then again if your starters can't do it, how can your bench do it? I don't see anyone on your bench that scares me (especially when playing in Boston). Brown scares me in LA because one explosive dunk of his sends the Staples Center through the roof. Otherwise, as long as Big Baby keeps owning Lamar, I think the Boston bench will dominate the Lakers bench...

Pardon any typos. I'm on my phone.

Derek Fisher is indeed a beast and he is not done yet.

Pau is consistent. We can't ask for much more from him. He's not traditionally a banger. He is a finesse player. That all said, he realized that the 2008 version of Pau needed to find the nearest landfill and is mixing it up well with your big guys.

The Lakers just need to play their game and they'll be just fine. Bynum is ok. He has two days to rest the knee and come back with a solid 20-25 minutes of play. It'll happen. No worries. ;)

To address your comment about Pau playing scared in Boston and the Lakers not playing well in Beantown... It's a good thing two of the next three are in the City of Angels baby!!! Gotta love home court advantage. :)

Sunday can go either way. Boston will be gripping hard if they don't step back up to the plate. All pressure is on Boston at this point.

I think the pressure is on both teams... neither one wants to be in situation where you HAVE to beat the other team two times in a row. Granted L.A. will play those two at home, but they played the first two at home too, and didn't sweep them either. Plus, if Boston wins Sunday, that is two straight and finally gives someone momentum in this series... I disagree with your theory about Boston being the only team playing under pressure.

IMO, if the refs are letting them play, we have an advantage. Typically, Boston is more contact driven than L.A. is. We saw that in 2008. Not to say that things couldn't change a bit, but that is not really a trait that you just pick up one day. That's like telling Felix that he MUST run like Marion... It just isn't there.... he can try to do better at it, but it's still not the same. I'm thinking it goes 7, and who knows who wins. I just wanted to see the rematch, and even though i'm a Celtics fan and i can't stand L.A., I just want to see a knock down drag them out 7 game series, with the game tied in the last minutes, and whoever wins, wins.

I made a thread about this. It's like Boston is playing against the refs and the Lakers. I hate how the refs are dictating tempo and physical play. Calling non stop fouls fits the soft Lakers perfectly. They have nothing but scared timid finess players.

I wish the refs would just allow some tough play to go on. That Pau Gasol slip was inexcusable.

Injury Update:

Andrew Bynum said the draining process worked & there is a 100% chance that he's going to play Sunday. Swelling will return, he expects, after the game.

Beast!!! We need him! We also need Artest to get a lil crazy. The beast within Ron Ron needs to come out. :D

http://my.lakers.com/blogs/2010/06/12/6-12-injury-update-andrew-bynum/

Potentially good news for the Lakers came from the lips of Andrew Bynum on Saturday afternoon.

“I’m going to play, 100 percent,” he stated regarding Sunday’s Game 5.

While the team is still taking a wait-and-see-how-it-feels-before-the-game approach, Bynum was confident that he’d be able to contribute, stating that the draining process he underwent on Friday did its job and that he’s feeling better.

“I think we’re still optimistic that he’s going to give it a shot,” said Lakers coach Phil Jackson. “We have a day to work with him. He’s had a day of therapy and he can start getting some movement and maybe start activating himself tomorrow and get himself going.”

We’d learned on Friday that Bynum had an MRI scan of his right knee that showed no additional damage, and that he’d had the knee drained on Thursday evening after the game.

Many of Bynum’s teammates, not to mention his general manager Mitch Kupchak, praised his toughness and “maturity” (in Kupchak’s words) for playing through the pain, as Kobe Bryant for one has done for so many years.

Bynum’s fully expecting some swelling to return to the knee after the game, but feels that the additional day between games 4 and 5 will have him playing at a high level.

We’ll see in a bit over 24 hours.

Okay but I'm not.

We're talking about a guy who couldn't even play 2 minutes after the half because the swelling was so bad. You think 2 days is going to help that? You need weeks for that injury to start to heel. All he's doing is putting more pressure on that tear. It's not going to get better and the swelling is going to just come right back after halftime.

Kobe should be buying Fisher 5 million dollar diamond rings for saving his *** in this series. Kobe singlehandedly **** the bed in game 3 by chucking up trashy bricks and being a complete ballhog. If Fisher doesn't play out of his mind the Lakers are down 3-1

Who even gets finals MVP on the Lakers? It sure isn't Kobe. If anything Gasol, Bynum and Fisher are the MVP's. Kobe just stuffs stat sheets and throws away gameclinching passes.

They caught up with the Mamba yesterday. Here's what he had to say.

"Are you sure you're not wiped out?"

Bryant stopped, turned to me, eyes suddenly bright, smile suddenly peeking out from underneath a 2-week-old mask.

Youre kidding right? 19 Free Throws for the Lakers to 7 for the Celtics.

Like I said earlier if they let the Celtics play physical defense they will win the series. They are out hustling the Lakers and forcing Kobe into bad shots.

The only reason this series is going back to LA, is Fisher had a horse shoe up his a** game 3 and played way above his head.

Impressive game by Kobe, but the rest of the team was MIA. Gasol and Odom have to have more of an impact. If not, Kobe better have 2 40+ point performances. Between the whistles and physical defense, this series has been a little painful to watch. Nice game by Pierce.

ESPN: Win or lose - Kobe Still MVP?

BOSTON -- In an odd Finals filled with statistical oddities and in which each game has borne virtually no resemblance to its predecessor, it's perhaps fitting that through five games we're left with another unusual situation: There is no clear-cut choice for series MVP. In fact, if Boston were to close things out with a win in Game 6 on Tuesday, as many as four Celtics could garner serious consideration.

Of course, the MVP doesn't have to come from the winning team. While this isn't the letter of the rule it's been an unwritten law for the past four decades -- every Finals MVP since 1969 has come from the winning team. Alas, every rule has its exception, and after Sunday night's 38-point effort we may be looking at one in the form of Kobe Bryant.

While the Celtics deserve their 3-2 lead in the series, there's no question who the best player has been over these first five games. That point was driven home with a sledgehammer in Game 5 when Bryant scored 19 points in the third quarter only to find the Celtics' lead had increased when he was done.

This continued a Finals in which Bryant has had at least 20 points in every game, has had only one game that possibly could be construed as somewhere close to ordinary (Game 2), and has had a pair (Games 1 and 5) in which he was absolutely spectacular.

For the series, Bryant is averaging 30.2 points per game; no other player is averaging more than 19. He's done it reasonably efficiently too, with a 55.2 true shooting percentage in a series in which the average has been 53.4. That's amazing considering the difficulty of the attempts he's taken, especially in Game 5.

Bryant has filled the stat sheet in various and sundry other ways, too. Bryant leads all Finals players in steals, is second in assists and has yanked down six rebounds a game. About the only quibble one could make is that he's been a bit turnover-prone; of course, he's playing against the league's top turnover-forcing defense, so this shouldn't come as a huge shock.

And while the league doesn't award extra points for degree of difficulty, part of the reason Bryant has been forced into such challenging attempts is how little help he's received from the cavalry. Again, this point was hammered into our consciousness in the second half of Game 5 -- Pau Gasol was the only Lakers starter to score a basket after halftime, and his play was tepid throughout (among his other assorted flubs, did anyone else catch him standing in the paint watching as Nate Robinson flew by for an easy fourth-quarter layup?).

If you're not sold on Bryant's MVP case yet, then consider the alternative. If not Kobe, who?

Rajon Rondo, who has yet to have a 20-point game and is 4-for-15 from the free throw line in the series? Ray Allen, who made a record eight 3-pointers in Game 2 but is 0-for-18 from distance in the other four games? Paul Pierce, who didn't become a factor in the series until Game 4? Kevin Garnett, who had only six points in Game 2 and has played only 30.8 minutes a game for the series?

The fact is Bryant has been by far the most productive player, and the only reason the Celtics are ahead is because five of the next six best players (the four above and supersub Glen Davis) have been wearing green. If series MVP voters are using their heads and not their hearts, Bryant is an obvious pick even with his team trailing.

There's an irony here, of course. I mentioned above that only one player has won Finals MVP in a losing effort; it was Bryant's idol and mentor, former Lakers star Jerry West. Wait, there's more. It came in the 1969 Finals … against the Celtics … against a veteran Boston team, in fact, that had won only 48 games and was seeded just fourth in the Eastern Conference at the start of the playoffs. L.A. ended up losing Game 7 at home despite 42 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists from West.

A lot of water still has to go under the bridge for Kobe to join West, but suffice it to say that if Kobe goes for 42, 13 and 12 in a losing effort in the finale the award is probably his regardless of what anyone on the Celtics does.

Of course, Kobe would only join West if the Lakers did, in fact, lose the series. He could also go down in history more happily if the Lakers win the final two games. At this point I'd say it's a foregone conclusion that he'll win the award if that happens, with Gasol having essentially eliminated himself from further consideration with his performances in Games 4 and 5 and no other player coming close to Bryant statistically.

Alas, the odds of L.A. winning both games are not great. While the Lakers pulled the feat off against Detroit in 1988, historically teams trailing 3-2 in the Finals have lost the series 34 times out of 40. The last team to win in such circumstances was Houston in 1994; since then the past eight teams to lead 3-2 have won the series (Chicago in 1996, 1997 and 1998, L.A. in 2000, San Antonio in 2003 and 2005, Miami in 2006 and Boston in 2008).

However, optimists will point out that only Miami in 2006 and Chicago in 1998 were playing on the road in those final two games. Since the league went to a 2-3-2 format, teams coming home with a 3-2 deficit have won twice (Houston in 1994, L.A. in 1988) and lost four times (Dallas in 2006, Utah in 1998, Boston in 1985 and Phoenix in 1993).

Nonetheless, it's hard to be encouraged about the Lakers' plight right now, as one wonders where additional help may come from for Bryant. Most crucially, center Andrew Bynum has to play on a short turnaround after a six-hour flight; flying tends to hurt players recuperating from injuries because it encourages swelling and stiffness (the Celtics won't practice on Monday before heading to L.A. for that exact reason).

And few have forgotten that it was Bynum's absence that allowed Boston to bully Gasol, Lamar Odom and any other Lakers not wearing No. 24 in the 2008 Finals.

Thus, the odds are looking long for the Lakers' hopes of claiming a repeat championship, and all the talk about Bryant joining Magic in L.A.'s five-rings club may be wasted breath. Instead, there's a decent chance Bryant will join another legendary Laker in the history books, in a way that he probably wished he wouldn't.]

yes they are, the betting lines are set so people bet evenly, not what they think will happen, thats why you see teams like the lakers, cowboys and yankees being favorites very often, more people bet on those teams than say, the twins or something.

but i do agree that this series is far from over, i think the celtics will win though because they have figured out that there is no stopping kobe, but you can stop everyone else. also, i hate to admit it, but bynum is HUGE for the lakers vs boston, they really miss him and i can see why lakers fans think that they could have won in 08 with him, he makes a big difference defensively and with rebounds

If the Celtics hold on to win and a player on the losing team wins the MVP that is just stupid. I've always thought that was stupid. It's one of the dumbest things that can possibly happen in sports. Thankfully it doesn't happen often.

How a person can possibly be the MVP of the series, or game, when his team didn't win is beyond me. If you don't win you're not more valuable to your team, or the series, then one of the guys on the team who actually won it.

As much of a Laker fan as I am, I have to wholeheartedly agree with this. That is just plain dumb. I love Kobe's game but it's all about team success to me. If the Lakers win, he is the clear MVP. If they lose, I just don't see it.

It's very painful to watch this game. Pathetic.

Once again the officials hand a game to the Lakers in the 4th quarter. It is a joke when you have a tough final game and one team once again has over TWICE as many FFs then the other team. The Lakers have more FFs in the 4th quarter then the Celtics have for the WHOLE GAME.

That shot by Gasol should wrap it up.

The Celtics haven't shown that they can make up 6 points in 1:30.

Kobe goes flying into RW who is stading there and gets more free points for the Lakers. Too funny!

Kobe should have been called for a charge. Gasol's rebounding, great play by Artest, and Kobe in 4th quarter did Celtics in

As bad as game was, it was very exciting fourth quarter.

Amazing they let both teams play physical all game, then when the championship is on the line they decide its time to start calling every single foul possible on Boston.

This just in:

Sources close to the league have just confirmed that the Joey Crawford and his officiating crew have just been named Co-Finals MVPs.

Congrats, guys. You earned it.

Congrats to the Lakers...

In the end there was not enough size for us to roll out there (unless you count Sheldon Williams). Great series, great drama, and a great season for my C's....

No one expected the Celtics to be in the Finals let alone push the Lakers to 7 games. I am thrilled with the way it turned out because there is no team I want to beat more than the Celtics but I have to say congrats to Boston for how they played. Tough team and they left it all on the court. :gent:

Looking forward to beating them again next year!

Hey! Look at what this guy said. ;)

This won't be an easy series for my purp&gold by any means. It's going to be the toughest championship the Kobe era Lakers have ever had to get. There will be major drama throughout and I will be thrilled to have witnessed it all. The Lakers will take it but they'll have to do it in 7 games. ;)

U mad? :muttley: I love that pic Rampage posted.

Me too bro!

That was one of the greatest NBA games I have ever seen. In my opinion, the score should not be indicative of the quality of the game. We witnessed some of the best back and forth defense by both team in the history of the NBA Finals. Great nail biter!

Not really. That game was not even close to being great. Defense had something to do with it but a lot of poor shot selections, a lot of guys trying to lean into people to draw a foul. It was a hard fought game but definitely not great.

I didn't care who won this series. I am a Sixer fan so naturally I am going to hate both teams due to our battles in the 80's with these teams. It just wasn't a great game. People get so caught up in the now that they forget about the past so quickly. I kind of agree with Wilbon's comments last night when they were putting Kobe up against the other great Lakers and great players of the past. People always seem to lean towards what happened last night, last week instead of going back and looking at some TRULY great games that were 10 X better than this game.

So. I was right. :) mkkkkkaayyyy

In order to appreciate what took place in game 7 you have to appreciate hustle, tenacity, willpower, grit, & determination. That game had it all. I don't care if it wasn't 130-120... I much prefer the type of game where both team have monumental mountains to climb. The game was a microcasm of the whole series. Major drama and a setting where the purp n gold had to comeback to win... I loved every nail biting minute of it! See ya next ear! Parade down Figeroa on Monday!!!!!!!!!
