Gym: Woman Too Fat to Work Out

Published : Friday, 04 Jun 2010, 1:05 PM CDT

By Alice Wolke | MYFOXDFW.COM

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - A woman trying to lose weight from her recent pregnancy was humiliated when a gym worker told her she was too fat to use the equipment.

Sandra Ruiz says she was using a stationary bicycle at the Mademoiselle Figure & Fitness Club when an employee told her the bike's weight limit wouldn't support her, according to NewsOn6.com.

Ruiz said she weighs 385 pounds after the birth of her son five months ago.

She said when she joined the gym, no one told her about any equipment weight limits.

Instead, after embarrassing her at the gym, Ruiz says the employee told her she could walk in the facility's aerobics room. Ruiz said she could do that for free outside.

Now she says she wants out of her contract, without any cancellation fee.

The gym's owner told NewsOn6.com that Ruiz had been informed from the start about the restrictions on some equipment, and that the staff had created a special weight loss program for her that included water aerobics. Ruiz disagreed.

The owner has decided to let Ruiz out of her contract and will not charge her the usual cancellation fee.

Gained a little weight during the pregnancy. Could have happened to anyone.

(Lame excuse, but give her credit for trying to do something about it.)

Gained a little weight during pregnancy? How big was she before she got pregnant?

If she's 385 pounds she was pretty darn big to begin with cause I can't imagine she gained that much weight to get to that level.

But I do give her props, and respect, for wanting to change that and going about doing something about the weight.

As a side note, being that I live in Oklahoma, I wasn't aware of any weight restrictions on any equipment in any of the gyms I've been to. The Simmons Center, the gym I go to obviously (when I am working out like I should), doesn't have any such restrictions. I've seen some very large people on the bikes in there and no one ever bothers them.

Most likely, she joined a gym wanting to lose weight and then was to lazy to do so (like many other people that join gyms) and didn't want to pay out the contract and used that as a tool to break the contract.

These days, virtue is almost non-existent among people. (that definitely includes gym companies too!)

I pay more for the gym I go too, but it's kept extremely clean, you usually don't have to wait for most equipment, and finally there is no contract. You just have to give them a 45 day notice of termination.

How is she too lazy if she was actually in the gym, using the machine when being told to get off?

How is she too lazy if she was actually in the gym, using the machine when being told to get off?

I didn't say she was, I said it's likely that is what happen. I didn't not lay judgment, I only weighed the possibilities. Lets be honest here, it's a lot harder to begin (and stick too) working out when you are overly obese than it is when you are not. Which is why many "weight loss" new years resolutions fall short.

Dedication to something is hard enough, especially when it isn't something you really want to do. When what that is you are dedicating yourself too is extremely difficult in itself, it only compounds the difficulty forcing you to double your dedication to doing it. (if you wish to succeed that is)

I can easily see someone using whatever they can find as a tool to not pay an entire year of health club membership. Especially if they have no intention on using it.

I'd like to see a picture of the guy that impregnated her. I'm picturing some real skinny dude.

Hey, some dudes like the big girls. Just not my cup of tea.

Personally, if some girl wants to ride "my exercise equipment,:D " there's definitely a weight limit. Anyone over 125 pounds better be tall to justify the extra weight.

I'm happy she was in the gym trying to lose the weight. Good luck. However, at 385 pounds, she isn't healthy enough to start an exersize program. She needs to diet first and lose a lot of weight before she is able to start to excersize.

So she's blaming being a total fat *** on her pregnancy?

She's saying that she gained even more weight with her pregnancy than she already had and realized it was out of hand. She joined the gym to start losing weight.

she sat on the beach and Greenpeace threw her in

she was diagnosed with flesh eating bacteria and was given 87 years to live

she stepped on a scale it said "to be continued"

she had to go to Sea World to get baptized

everytime she turns around its her birthday

she went bugee jumping and the bridge sagged

she fell off all four sides of the bed

she danced at a concert and the band skiped

she has her own gravitational pull

she works in a glass shop sitting on sand

she puts her belt on with a boomerang

she wore a yellow raincoat and people yelled "Taxi!"

she got arrested at the airport for ten pounds of crack

she sat on a 20 and a booger shot out of Ben's nose

her beeper went off and people thought she was backing up
